Basic Research to Develop PGM-free DeNOx Catalyst for LNT (LNT용 PGM-free DeNOx 촉매 개발을 위한 기초연구)

  • This inquiry was conducted to develop DeNOx catalyst for LNT. In order to develop appropriate catalysts, four catalysts, which do not use PGM (Platinum Group Metal), were carefully selected : Al/Co/Mn, Al/Co/Ni/Mn, Al/Co/Mn/Ca, Al/Co/Ni mixed metal oxides during preliminary experiments. Also, XRD, EDS, SEM, BET and TPD tests were carried as well to evaluate both physicochemical properties of such four catalysts. As a result of the experiment, four catalysts were composed of spinel-shaped crystals and had more than enough pore volume and size to have oxidation-reduction reaction of NOx gases. Additionally, through TPD test, all four types of catalysts were proved to possibly have an oxidation-reduction acid site and NO oxidation activities similar to commercial catalysts. Based on the results above, if we have further change in the composition components and active ingredients according to the catalysts that were chosen in this investigation, then we are more welcomed to expect to have an enhanced DeNox catalyst for LNT.

  • For gaseous fuel combustion with inherent $CO_2$ capture and low NOx emission, chemical-looping combustion(CLC) may yield great advantages of savings of energy to $CO_2$ separation and suppressing the effect on environment. In chemical-looping combustor, fuel is oxidized by metal oxide medium (oxygen carrier particle) in a reduction reactor. Reduced particles are transported to oxidation reactor and oxidized by air and recycled to reduction reactor. The fuel and the air are never mixed, and the gases from reduction reactor, $CO_2$ and $H_2O$, leave the system as separate stream. The $H_2O$ can be easily separated by condensation and pure $CO_2$ is obtained without any loss of energy for separation. The purpose of this study is to demonstrate inherent $CO_2$ separation and no NOx emission and to confirm high $CO_2$ selectivity, no side reaction (i.e., carbon deposition, hydrogen generation) by continuous reduction and oxidation experiment in a 50kWtb chemical-looping combustor. NiO/bentonite particle was used as a bed material and $CH_4$ and air were used as reacting gases for reduction and oxidation respectively.

The Study on the Combustion and Ash Deposition Characteristics of Ash Free Coal and Residue Coal in a Drop Tube Furnace (DTF를 이용한 무회분 석탄과 잔탄의 연소 및 회 점착 특성에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, much research has been put into finding the causes and solutions of slagging/fouling problems that occur at the end of the boiler. This slagging/fouling, caused by low-rank coal's ash, disturbs the thermal power and greatly reduces efficiency. In environmental aspects, such as NOx pollution, governments have been implementing restrictions on the quantity of emission gases that can be released into the atmosphere. To solve these problems, research on Ash Free Coal (AFC), which eliminates ash from low-rank coal, is in progress. AFC has advantages over similar high-rank coals because it increases the heating value of the low grade coal, reduces the contaminants that are emitted, and decreases slagging/fouling problems. In this study, using a DTF, the changes of NOx emissions, unburned carbon, and the characteristics of ash deposition were identified. KCH raw coal, AFC extracted from KCH, residue coal, Glencore, and Mixed Coal (Glencore 85wt% and residue coal 15wt%) were studied. Results showed that AFC had a significantly lower emission of NOx compared to that of the raw coal and residue coal. Also, the residue coal showed a higher reactivity compared to raw coal. And finally, In the case of the residue coal and mixed coal, they showed a lower ash deposition than that of low-rank coal.

디지털 이미지 프로세싱과 신경망을 이용한 시멘트 Kiln 소성의 온라인 진단 및 최적 제어

  • 소성 영역(Sintering zone)에서 클링커(Clinker)의 형상 형성은 시멘트 생산 공정에서 가장 중요한 생산 공정중의 하나이다. 소성공정의 진단 및 최적 제어의 핵심은 써모그래프(Thermo graph), 즉 적외선 카메라를 이용한 온도 분포의 측정이다. 여기에서 다룰 ''PIT Indicator'' 시스템은 분진이 많은 열악한 산업 현장의 연소 시스템에 적용할 수 있도록 특별히 설계한 공냉식의 2개 채널을 가진 광학 장비에 기초하고 있다. 비디오 영상과 써모그래프 이미지 그리고 다양한 연소 특성이 카메라를 통하여 얻어지고 자기 학습 기능을 가진 소프트웨어에서 기록되고 분석된다. 이때 얻은 데이터는 수학적 모델에서 온라인으로 Free Lime 함유율을 예측하는데 이용된다. 열분포의 써모그래프 표시와 공정상의 다양한 운전 특성을 분석하여 주는 ''PIT Indicator'' 소프트웨어를 통하여 다른 공정 제어 시스템과 연결이 가능하다. 이와 같은 하드웨어와 소프트웨어를 이용하여 최적화가 필요한 여러요소들의 최적화를 동시에 그리고 온라인으로 수행할 수가 있다. Free Lime 함유율의 연속적인 온라인 연산을 통해 생산 설비 및 공정에 맞는 최소한의 에너지를 Kiln 에 공급함으로써 근본적으로 1차 연료의 절감이 가능하고 NOx와 같은 유해 가스의 배출량도 제어할 수 있다. 또한 별도로 NOx에 대한 모델을 개발하여 NOx를 정확하게 예측하는 것도 가능하다.

  • In order to achieve simultaneously the ultra-low NOx, the high power and the high efficiency in a hydrogen-fueled engine with SI and the external mixture, the effects of low temperature combustion, performance and exhaust are compared and analyzed by the application of the lean boosting. As the results, the decrease rate of the high temperature in the hydrogen is less decreased than the other fuels by high constant-volume specific heat. However, when the conditions of 1.7bar and ${\Phi}=0.33$ are reached by the lean boosting, the maximum gas temperature of hydrogen is decreased under the temperature of NOx formation and it is possible to stabilize combustion below 2% of COVimep. Also, at that condition, it is feasible to achieve simultaneously NOx-free and the power of gasoline level. Therefore, it is found that the lean boosting is useful in the hydrogen-fueled engine.

  • Diesel engine offers superior fuel consumption than gasoline engine of equivalent capacity. For this reason, diesel engines are widely used in heavy duty transport applications. Specially, it has been many years that exhaust gases from gasoline automobile rather than from diesel is the major object concerned by Korea and other countries, and it is strongly required on the reduction techniques on harmful NOx, Soot, CO, He. Thus, this paper focused on the emission reduction and target for this paper is heavy-duty diesel engine equipped with power filter such as wet type air cleaner. In this paper, the performance, exhaust emissions(CO, THC, NOx, Soot) and noise of heavy-duty diesel engine were measured at maximum load condition and the range of 1,000∼2,200rpm. The smoke was measured at FAS(Free Accel Smoke) test mode.

  • LNG combustion characteristics of oxygen carrier particles were investigated in a batch type bubbling fluidized bed reactor. Three particles, NiO/bentonite, $NiO/NiAl_2O_4$, $CO_xO_y/CoAl_2O_4$, were used as oxygen carrier particles and LNG and air were used as reactants for reduction and oxidation, respectively. In the reducer, high gas conversion and high $CO_2$ selectivity were achieved for all three particles. In the oxidizer, NOx was not detected. The results of exhaust gas analysis showed that inherent $CO_2$ separation and NOx-free combustion are possible in the LNG fueled chemical-looping combustion system with NiO/bentonite, $NiO/NiAl_2O_4$ and $Ca_xO_y/CoAl_2O_4$ particles.

  • From the power plants in a steel plant, environment pollutants such as SOx, NOx, CO are emitted by the combustion reaction between the fuels those are by-product gases and oil. To reduce the amounts of the pollutants, it must be important that build the predictive models for the emission of the pollutants. In this paper, the model that predict the amount of future fuel consumption and the model that predict the amount of generated pollutants for the used fuel amounts is developed by using Gibb's free energy minimization method with the temperature correction techniques and neural network back propagation method. For some data set, the calculation results from this models are compared with the real emission amounts of SOx, NOx and result of the calculation by the ASPEN plus which is a commercial software. The result from this model is better than the result by ASPEN plus for this problem.
