Experimental Study on Capacity Variation of Paving Materials with TiO2 in Wet Condition (광촉매 이산화티타늄(TiO2)을 혼합한 도로 포장재의 습윤 조건에서의 성능 변화에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • This study aims to present the practical Nitrogen monoxide (NO) removal capacity of cement mortar with Titanium dioxide ($TiO_2$) which is one of the paving materials by considering the environment of pavement in urban areas. NO removal capacity test under designated conditions of humidity of inflow gas and the test with variation of the degree of saturation of specimen were conducted. In the test for humidity, dry specimen is subject to the test and NO removal ratio was observed. Humidity-NO removal ratio curve is a log normal distribution in shape, and the maximum NO removal ratio appears at specific humidity. NO removal capacity test relying on the degree of saturation was carried out with wet specimen to reflect the unsaturated pavement by rainfall and domestic sewage. Wet specimen presents less NO removal capacity than dry specimen and the recovering evolution of NO removal capacity follows evaporation. Moreover, $TiO_2$ under the specific depth of specimen hardly contributes to NO removal capacity.

  • 질산염(NO$_3$)은 음전하를 띠고 있기 때문에 지하에서 제거되기 어려운 물질 중 하나이다. 특히, 매립지로부터 침출수로 유출될 경우 통제하기가 곤란하다. 본 연구에서는 제철폐기물로서 다량 발생하는 제강슬러지와 제강슬래그를 매립지 복토/차수재로 이용시 NO$_3$흡착 제거 가능성을 알아보기 위해 온도, pH, 초기농도를 변화시키는 회분식방법의 실험을 실시하였다. 온도와 PH는 낮을 때. 초기농도는 높을 때 높은 흡착제거 효율을 나타내었다.

PEG에 고정화된 Pseudomonas aeruginosa를 이용한 NH$_4$-N, NO$_3$-N 동시제거에 관한 연구

  • 질소제거 능력이 있는 Pseudomonas aeruginosa을 고분자물질인 PEG 에 포괄고정화하였으며 제조된 고정화 미생물을 이용하여 질소제거에 미치는 C/N비, 농도, 충진율, 탄소별 제거율을 검토한 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 1) C/N비 10이상이면 NH$_4$-N 와 NO$_3$-N의 동시 제거가 가능하였으며 2) 탄소 원으로는 glucose를 사용하였을 때 NH$_4$-N 와 NO$_3$-N의 동시 제거가 가능하였으나 methanol은 탄소원으로 사용할 수 없었다. 3) 저농도의 NO$_3$-N(50 mg/L)는 완전히 제거 가능하였으나 NH$_5$-N인 경우에는 초기 NH$_4$-N 100 mg/L에서 60%정도만 제거되었다. 4) 연속처리 결과 NH$_4$-N는 HRT 변동에도 불구하고 유출수 농도 변화가 거의 없었으나, 오히려 C/N비를 증가시키면 NH$_4$-N 제거 효율이 높았고, NO$_3$-N인 경우도 마찬가지로 C/N비를 증가시키면 NO$_3$-N 제거 효율이 높았다.

NO and $SO_2$ Removal by Dielectric Barrier Discharge-Photocatalysts Hybrid Process (유전체 장벽 방전-광촉매 복합공정에 의한 NO와 $SO_2$ 제거)

  • In this study, we analyzed experimently the NO and $SO_2$ removal by the dielectric barrier discharge-photocatalysts hybrid process. The glass spheres were used as a dielectric material for dielectric barrier discharge and the $TiO_2$ photocatalysts were coated onto those spheres by the dip-coating method. The $TiO_2$ particles were coated in the sponge-shape, which has the larger surface area. As the voltage applied to the plasma reactor, the pulse frequency of applied voltage, or the residence time increases, the NO and $SO_2$ removal efficiencies increase. The increase in the supplied concentrations of NO and $SO_2$ leads to the higher energy for NO and $SO_2$ removal and the NO and $SO_2$ removal efficiencies decrease. These experimental results can be used as a basis to design the dielectric barrier discharge-photocatalysts hybrid process to remove NO and $SO_2$.

Isolation and Culture Conditions of a Pseudomonas Strain Capable of Removing $NH_4^+\;and\; NO_3^-$ Simultaneously in Anaerobic Conditions (혐기성 상태에서 암모니움 이온과 질산성 질소를 제거하는 미생물의 분리 및 배양조건)

  • A bacterial strain AE-1-3, isolated from soil and wastewater identified as Pseudomonas strain, removed $NH_4^+\;and\; NO_3^-$ simultaneously in anaerobic cultivation in a medium containing $0.1\%\;NH_4NO_3\;and\;3.0\%$ glucose. The strain removed $NH_4^+\;,\;NO_3^-\;and\;NO_2^-$ completely in 15 days of anaerobic cultivation. Though N03- removed completely, $33\%\;of\;NH_4^+$ remained in 15 day of incubation in $1\%$ glucose and $0.1\%\;NH_4NO_3$ medium. The bacterium could remove $0.1\%\;NH_4NO_3$ completely in a short time by addition of $Cu^{2+},\;Zn^{2+},\;Sn^{2+}\;in\;0.5\%$ glucose medium. By chaning the metal concentration, $0.3\%\;NH_4NO_3$ could be removed completely.

  • In this study, effects of temperature, NSR, and oxygen concentration on the $NO_x$ removal efficiency of an SNCR process were investigated experimentally as well as numerically using CHEMKIN-II program. The NO removal efficiency increased with the reactor temperature under oxygen-free condition, whereas when the oxygen concentration was 4%, the NO removal efficiency showed a maximum value at $900{\sim}950^{\circ}C$. The pressure of oxygen was shown to enhance the NO removal at low temperature. Regardless of the oxygen concentration, the NO removal efficiency increased with NSR. The temperature and NSR-dependencies of the NO removal efficiency predicted by CHEMKIN-II simulations were similar to that of the experimental results.

  • The effects of the applied current density, the $AgNO_3$ concentration, the scrubbing liquid flow rate and the NO-air mixed gas flow rate on the NO removal efficiency were investigated by using $Ag^{2+}$ mediated electrochemical oxidation (MEO). Results showed that the NO removal efficiency increased with increasing the applied current density. The effect of the $AgNO_3$ concentration on the NO removal efficiency was negligibly small in the concentration of $AgNO_3$ above 0.1 M. When the scrubbing liquid flow rate increased, the NO removal efficiency was gradually increased. On the other hands, the NO removal efficiency decreased with increasing the NO-air mixed gas flow rate. As a result of the treatment of NO-air mixed gas by using the MEO process with the optimum operating condition and the chemical absorption process using 3 M $HNO_3$ solution as a scrubbing liquid, the removal efficiency of NO and $NO_x$ was achieved as 95% and 63%, respectively.

Simultaneous Removal of Nitrogen and Phosphorus Leached from Farming Feed by the Marine Bacteria, Bacillus sp. CK-10 and Bacillus CK-13, Isolated from Shrimp Farming Pond (새우양식장에서 분리한 해양세균 Bacillus sp. CK-10과 Bacillus sp. CK-13에 의한 양식사료에 포함된 질소와 인의 동시제거)

  • A bench-scale feasibility study was conducted with solid farming feed to evaluate a treatment process for microbiological removal of nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P). Strains, Bacillus sp. CK-10 and Bacillus sp. CK-13, were originally isolated from water samples of shrimp farming pond. Simultaneous removal of N/P in marine media was monitored in the co-cultures, CK-10 and CK-13. As the results, $400\;{\mu}M\;NH^{+}_4$ and $400\;{\mu}M\;NO^{-}_2$ were eliminated within 12 hours and $NO^{-}_3$ within 36 hours, and $500\;{\mu}M\;PO^{-3}_4$ was completely disappeared within 36 hours from the media. Cultures of CK-10 and CK-13 were applied for removal of N/P leached from shrimp farming fred. HPAEC-PAD system was used to analyze sugars in farming feed, resulting in resolution of various sugars including glucose, galactose, galatosamine, mannose, and fucose. $0.2\%$ (w/v) Pulp densities of the farming feed contained approximately $33.3\;{\mu}M\;NH^{+}_4,\;12.9\;{\mu}M\;NO^{-}_2.\;81.5\;{\mu}M\;NO^{-}_3\;and\;248\;{\mu}M\;PO^{-3}_4$ which could dissolved within 72 hours of leaching in aqueous solution followed by bacterial removal. Complete bacterial removal of N/P was achieved within 84 hours at $0.2\%$ of the feed in co-cultures, whereas single cultures removed to incompletion of N/P during the incubation period. This work demonstrated that test cultures, CK-10 and CK-13 showed effective removal of N/P derived from shrimp farming feed.

Characteristics of a Wet Air Cleaning System for Removal of Air Pollutants (습식 공기청정장치의 공기오염물질 제거 특성)

  • Performance characteristics of a wet air cleaning system were investigated experimentally, and discussed in relation with physicochemical properties of the target pollutants. The system is composed of an air cleaner, a separator, and a medium filter. Removal efficiency of the system was measured for ambient particles and gaseous air pollutants: $SO_2$, NO, $NO_2$, HCHO, and $NH_3$. For particle removal test, particles were introduced into the system through a fan, and the particle size distribution was measured at three locations by using two laser particle counters. Particle removal efficiency for each system component was obtained from the particle size distribution. It was found that the separator primarily removed coarse particles greater than $5{\mu}m$ in diameter, and that the medium filter mainly removed fine particles less than $5{\mu}m$ in diameter. For gas removal test, air with gaseous air pollutant was injected into the outlet of the fan, and the concentration was measured both at the upstream of the air cleaner and at the downstream of the separator. It was found that the gaseous species with high Henry's law coefficients, such as $SO_2$, HCHO, and $NH_3$, showed high removal efficiency, but the gaseous species with low Henry's law coefficients, such as NO and $NO_2$, showed low removal efficiencies. It was also found that negative ions were generated from the air cleaner.
