Landsat-8을 활용한 Sentinel-2A Near Infrared 채널의 Spectral Band Adjustment Factor 적용성 평가 (Evaluation of Spectral Band Adjustment Factor Applicability for Near Infrared Channel of Sentinel-2A Using Landsat-8)

  • 다양한 지구관측위성은 발사 후 정확한 고품질의 자료를 제공하는 것이 중요하다. 위성 자료 품질을 유지 및 보완하기 위해서는 서로 다른 센서 차이를 고려하는 spectral band adjustment factor (SBAF)를 활용한 교차 검보정 과정이 필요하다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 pseudo-invariant calibration sites 중 Libya4, Algeria3, Mauritania2 에서 수집한 Landsat-8, Sentinel-2A 위성 영상을 활용하여 SBAF 산출 및 적용을 통해 밴드 대역 폭 차이로 인해 발생하는 불확실성을 조정하였다. 두 위성 모두 Blue, Green, Red를 포함하고 Sentinel-2A의 경우 near-infrared (NIR) narrow와 NIR 두 가지 밴드 모두에 SBAF를 적용하여 밴드대역폭 유사도에 따른 반사도 차이를 정량적으로 비교하였다. SBAF 적용 후, NIR을 제외한 모든 밴드(Blue, Green, Red, NIR narrow)에서 1% 내외의 반사도 차이로 유의미한 결과가 나타났다. Sentinel-2A NIR 밴드의 경우 밴드대역폭 차이가 NIR narrow에 비해 크게 나타났지만, SBAF 적용 후에 반사도 차이가 허용 오차범위인 5%와 1-2% 차이로 SBAF 적용이 가능한 것으로 나타났다. 따라서, 위성 활용이 제한적인 상황에서 두 센서의 밴드대역폭 차이가 큰 경우에도 SBAF를 적용할 수 있다고 판단하였고 위성 자료의 품질 및 연속성을 활용하는 연구에 도움이 될 것으로 기대된다.

Wine quality grading by near infrared spectroscopy.

  • The ability to accurately assess wine quality is important during the wine making process, particularly when allocating batches of wines to styles determined by consumer requirements. Grape payments are often determined by the quality category of the wine that is produced from them. Wine quality, in terms of sensory characteristics, is normally a subjective measure, performed by experienced winemakers, wine competition judges or winetasting panellists. By nature, such assessments can be biased by individual preferences and may be subject to day-to-day variation. Taste and aroma compounds are often present in concentrations below the detection limit of near infrared (NIR) spectroscopy but the more abundant organic compounds offer potential for objective quality grading by this technique. Samples were drawn from one of Australia's major wine shows and from BRL Hardy's post-vintage wine quality allocation tastings. The samples were scanned in transmission mode with a FOSS NIR Systems 6500, over the wavelength range 400-2500 ㎚. Data analysis was performed with the Vision chemometrics package. With samples from the allocation tastings, the best correlations between NIR spectra and tasting data were obtained with dry red wines. These calibrations used loadings in the wavelengths related to anthocyanins, ethanol and possibly tannins. Anthocyanins are a group of compounds responsible for colour in red wines - restricting the wavelengths to those relating to anthocyanins produced calibrations of similar accuracy to those using the full wavelength range. This was particularly marked with Merlot, a variety that tends to have relatively lower anthocyanin levels than Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. For dry white wines, calibrations appeared to be more dependent on ethanol characteristics of the spectrum, implying that quality correlated with fruit maturity. The correlations between NIR spectra and sensory data obtained using the wine show samples were less significant in general. This may be related to the fact that within most classes in the show, the samples may span vintages, glowing areas and winemaking styles, even though they may be made from only one grape variety. For dry red wines, the best calibrations were obtained with a class of Pinot Noir - a variety that tends to be produced in limited areas in Australia and would represent the least matrix variation. Good correlations were obtained with a tawny port class - these wines are sweet, fortified wines, that are aged for long periods in wooden barrels. During the ageing process Maillard browning compounds are formed and the water is lost through the barrels in preference to ethanol, producing “concentrated” darkly coloured wines with high alcohol content. These calibrations indicated heaviest loadings in the water regions of the spectrum, suggesting that “concentration” of the wines was important, whilst the visible and alcohol regions of the spectrum also featured as important factors. NIR calibrations based on sensory scores will always be difficult to obtain due to variation between individual winetasters. Nevertheless, these results warrant further investigation and may provide valuable Insight into the main parameters affecting wine quality.

AKARI OBSERVATIONS OF THE INTERSTELLAR MEDIUM

  • AKARI has 4 imaging bands in the far-infrared (FIR) and 9 imaging bands that cover the near-infrared (NIR) to mid-infrared (MIR) contiguously. The FIR bands probe the thermal emission from sub-micron dust grains, while the MIR bands observe emission from stochastically-heated very small grains and the unidentified infrared (UIR) band emissions from carbonaceous materials that contain aromatic and aliphatic bonds. The multi-band characteristics of the AKARI instruments are quite efficient to study the spectral energy distribution of the interstellar medium, which always shows multi-component nature, as well as its variations in the various environments. AKARI also has spectroscopic capabilities. In particular, one of the onboard instruments, Infrared Camera (IRC), can obtain a continuous spectrum from 2.5 to $13{\mu}m$ with the same slit. This allows us to make a comparative study of the UIR bands in the diffuse emission from the 3.3 to $11.3{\mu}m$ for the first time. The IRC explores high-sensitivity spectroscopy in the NIR, which enables the study of interstellar ices and the UIR band emission at $3.3-3.5{\mu}m$ in various objects. Particularly, the UIR bands in this spectral range contain unique information on the aromatic and aliphatic bonds in the band carriers. This presentation reviews the results of AKARI observations of the interstellar medium with an emphasis on the observations of the NIR spectroscopy.

Simultaneous Determination of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons by Near Infrared Spectroscopy using a Partial Least Squares Regression

  • Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs) are widely distributed in the environment and are often implicated as potential carcinogens. The chromatographic methods of detection and quantitative determination of PAHs in environmental samples are costly, time consuming, and do not account for all kinds of PAHs. This work describes a quantitative spectroscopic method for the analysis of mixtures of eight PAHs using multivariate calibration models for Fourier transform near infrared(FT-NIR) spectral data. The NIR spectra of mixtures of PAHs (anthracene, pyrene, 1,2-benzanthracene, perylene, chrysene, benzo(a)pyrene, 1-methylanthracene and benzo(ghi)perylene) were measured in the wavelength range from 1100 nm to 2500 nm. The spectral data were processed using a partial least squares regression. We have studied the spectral characteristics of NIR spectra of mixtures of PAHs. It was possible to determine each PAM used in this study at the environmental level(mg L-1) in the laboratory samples. Further development may lead to the rapid determination of more PAHs in typical environmental samples.

근적외선분석계를 이용한 국내산 쌀의 성분예측모델 개발(I) -현미와 백미의 성분예측모델- (Development of a Constituent Prediction Model of Domestic Rice Using Near Infrared Reflectance Analyzer(I) -Constituent Prediction Model of Brown and Milled Rice-)

  • To measure the moisture content, protein and viscosity of brown and milled rice with Near Infrared Reflectance(NIR) analyzer, the comparison and analysis of the data from the chemical analysis and NIR analyzer were conducted. The purpose of this study is to find out the fundamental data required for the prediction of rice qualify and taste rank, and to develop a measuring method of constituents and physical characteristics of domestic rice with NIR analyzer. The important results can be summarized as follows. 1. The $r^2$ and SEC of moisture calibration from brown rice powder were 0.87 and 0.09 respectively, those of milled rice powder were 0.95 and 0.08 respectively. 2. The $r^2$ and SEC of protein calibration from brown rice powder were 0.83 and 0.20 respectively, those of milled rice powder were 0.86 and 0.20 respectively. 3. The $r^2$ and SEC of viscosity calibration from brown rice powder were 0.36 and 15.50 respectively, those of milled rice powder were 0.55 and 12.98 respectively. Further study is required to develop better prediction model for viscosity. It is necessary the continuous study including wavelength selection, because $r^2$ is small for practical use. 4. The regression equation for one rice variety was nearly coincident with other. Therefore, it is required that the prediction model should be developed for the all rice samples.

모래와 실트의 탁수에 대한 분광특성 분석 (Analysis of Spectral Reflectance Characteristics for Sand and Silt Turbid Water)

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the basic relationships between spectral reflectance and varying concentrations of sediment in surface waters. An experimental method for determining suspended sediment concentration (SSC) in the water by use of a spectroradiometer above the water surface, in visible and near-infrared (NIR) wavelengths, is applied. The main advantage of the method is the direct comparison of spectral reflectance and the SSC, but it requires an accurate knowledge of the water body and sediment. Therefore numerous spectroradiometric measurements are carried out in situ measurements, for SSC, ranging from zero to 100 percentage and two types of sediment applied in the water tank. The results indicate that the suspended sediment causes increasing spectral reflectance response in waters. We observed that spectral reflectance increases with SSC, first at the lower wavelengths (430-480 nm), then in the middle wavelengths (570-700 nm), and finally, in the NIR domain (800-820 nm); a characteristic maximum reflectance appears at 400-670 nm. Relationships between the wavelength, integral value, and the SSC were evaluated on the basis of the regression analysis. The regression curve for the relation between the wavelength, integral value, and the SSC were determined ($R^2$>0.98). Finally, the specular wavelength can be estimated to recognize the sediment and to improve SC estimation accuracy in the water.

근적외선 열풍기의 복합열전달에 관한 수치적 연구 (NUMERICAL STUDY ON COMBINED HEAT TRANSFER IN NIR HEATING CHAMBER)

  • Numerical analysis is carried out for combined heat transfer in an indirected NIR(Near Infrared Ray) heating chamber. Reynolds number and shapes of absorbed cylinder are known as important parameters on the combined heat transfer effects. Reynolds number based on the outer diameter of the cylinder is varied from $10^3$ to $3{\times}10^5$. Four difference heat transfer regimes are observed: forced convection and radiative heat transfer on the outer surface of the cylinder, pure conduction in the cylinder body, pure natural convection and radiation between lamp surface and inner surface of the cylinder, and radiation from the lamp. Flow and temperature characteristics are presented with iso-contour lines for the absorbed circular and elliptic cylinders to compare their differences. The convective and radiative heat transfer fluxes are also compared with different Reynolds numbers. As usual, Reynolds number is an important factor to estimate increasing convective heat transfer as it increases. The shape of absorbed cylinder results overall heat transfer rates remain unchanged.

Rapid Nondestructive Prediction of Multiple Quality Attributes for Different Commercial Meat Cut Types Using Optical System

  • There are differences of spectral characteristics between different types of meat cut, which means the model established using only one type of meat cut for meat quality prediction is not suitable for other meat cut types. A novel portable visible and near-infrared (Vis/NIR) optical system was used to simultaneously predict multiple quality indicators for different commercial meat cut types (silverside, back strap, oyster, fillet, thick flank, and tenderloin) from Small-tailed Han sheep. The correlation coefficients of the calibration set (Rc) and prediction set (Rp) of the optimal prediction models were 0.82 and 0.81 for pH, 0.88 and 0.84 for L*, 0.83 and 0.78 for a*, 0.83 and 0.82 for b*, 0.94 and 0.86 for cooking loss, 0.90 and 0.88 for shear force, 0.84 and 0.83 for protein, 0.93 and 0.83 for fat, 0.92 and 0.87 for moisture contents, respectively. This study demonstrates that Vis/NIR spectroscopy is a promising tool to achieve the predictions of multiple quality parameters for different commercial meat cut types.

OBSERVATION OF SPECTRAL CHARACTERISTICS FOR SOIL CONTAMINANTS

  • Spectral characteristics depending on soil constituents and their proportion in a soil were firstly studied for monitoring of soil contamination using hyperspectral remote sensing. The reflectance spectra of heavy metals in soils were investigated in the VIS-NIR-SWIR regions (400-2500 nm) to observe spectral variation as a function of constituents and concentrations. Commercial kaolinite soils mixed with lead, copper, arsenic, and cadmium were used as synthetic soil samples for spectral measurement. In case of copper, relatively spectrally active regions was observed with some band shift whereas other heavy metals had only simple spectral variations expected to be related to the sorption phase and the amount of metal onto kaolinite. The reflectance spectrum of each metal on kaolinite could be identified in VIS-NIR region.

The importance of NIR spectroscopy in the estimation of nutritional quality of grains for ruminants

  • The production of grain for export and domestic use is one of Australia's most important agricultural industries, and the NIR technique has been used extensively over many years for the routine monitoring of grain quality, particularly moisture and protein content. Because most Australian grain is intended for human food production, the determinants of grain quality for livestock feed, apart from protein, have been largely ignored. However the increasing use of grain for feeding to pigs, poultry, beef cattle and dairy cows has led to an important national research project entitled “Premium Grains for Livestock”. Two of the objectives of this project are to determine the compositional and functional characteristics of grains which influence their nutritional quality for the various classes of livestock, and to adopt rapid and objective analytical tests for these quality criteria. NIR has been used in this project firstly to identify a set of grain samples from a large population of breeders' lines which showed a wide spectral variation, and hence a potentially wide variation in nutritional value. The selected samples were not only subjected to an extensive array of chemical, physical and in vitro analyses, but also were grown out to produce sufficient quantities of grain to feed to animals in vivo studies. Additional grains were also strategically selected from farms in order to include the effect of weather damage, such as rain, drought and frost. In this study to date, NIR calibrations have been derived or attempted, on both ground and whole grains, for in vivo dry matter digestibility (DMD), pepsin-cellulase dry matter disappearance, protein, fat, acid detergent fibre, neutral detergent fibre, starch, in sacco DMD and in vitro assays to simulate starch digestion in the lumen and small intestine. Results so far indicate high calibration accuracy for chemical components (SECV 0.3 to 2.6%) and very promising statistics for in vivo DMD (SECV 1.8, $R^2$ 0.93, SD 7.0, range 61.9 to 92.3, n=60). There appears to be some potential for NIR to estimate some in vitro properties, depending upon the accuracy of reference methods and appropriate sample populations. Current work is in progress to extend the range of grains with in vivo DMD values (a very laborious and expensive process) and to increase the robustness of the various NIR calibrations, with the aim of implementing uniform testing procedures for nutritional value of grains throughout Australia.
