Purpose: This study was to investigate the correlation between pain, disability and quality of life among adolescents and office workers with neck and shoulder pain. Methods: Twenty-four subjects (mean age=24.92 years, SD=3.94, range=20-37) with neck and shoulder pain participated in this study. The outcome measures of the study were visual analogue scale (VAS), neck disability index (NDI), shoulder pain and disability index (SPADI), short form-36 (SF-36) for neck and shoulder pain and disability, quality of life. Pearson's correlation and Speaman's rank correlation were used to measure the association between VAS and NDI, SPADI, SF-36. Results: The VAS showed a positive correlation between weak to moderate with the NDI and SPADI, but no significantly correlated (${\rho}=0.34$, ${\rho}=0.25$). The moderate positive correlation and significant correlation were observed between NDI and SPADI (${\rho}=0.43$, p<0.05). The PCS of SF-36 was significantly negative correlated with the VAS (${\rho}=-0.24$), NDI and SPADI (${\rho}=-0.63$, ${\rho}=-0.59$, p<0.05). Conclusion: The pain and disability of neck and shoulder has closely relevance. And, the pain and disability of neck and shoulder has a negative impact on the quality of life.
Objective: This study was designed to investigate the correlation between gastric emptying measurement by ultrasonography and the findings of various questionnaires of functional dyspepsia (FD) or in Korean medicine to explore the possibility of quantification of questionnaires. Methods: Eighty-eight patients (44 patients with FD and 44 healthy controls) were recruited from October 2016 to November 2017. Gastric emptying half-time (T1/2) was measured by ultrasonography at fasting, and at 0, 15, 30, 45, 60, 90, and 120 min after meals (apple juice, 500 ml, 224 kcal). The average half-time (average T1/2) was calculated by averaging all measured half-times. A visual analogue scale (VAS), food retention questionnaire (FRQ), damum questionnaire (DQ), cold and heat questionnaire (CHQ), deficiency and excess questionnaire (DEQ), spleen-qi deficiency questionnaire (SQDQ), Nepean dyspepsia index-Korean version (NDI-K), and quality of life of NDI (NDI-QoL) were filled out by all participants. Correlation between the average T1/2 and questionnaires were analyzed for 79 patients (37 patients with FD and 42 healthy controls) after excluding missing and erroneous data. Results: The FRQ, DEQ, SQDQ, NDI-K, and NDI-QoL scores, especially for some gastrointestinal symptoms and general weakness-related symptoms, showed statistically significant correlations with average T1/2. Conclusions: Our results suggest that gastric emptying measurement by ultrasonography may be a quantitative substitute method for some Korean medical questionnaires or for some dyspepsia-related and deficiency-related items among them. However, further studies using various measurements of gastric emptying will be needed.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to find out the effects of kinesio taping on nuchal pain caused by traffic accidents. Methods : The 40 patients were divided into 2 groups : Group A was treated except taping and Group B was treated with taping. Both Group were treated with Acupuncture, Phy-Tx and Herb-med. Patients were evaluated and analyzed Visual Analog Scale(VAS), Pain Rating Score(PRS) and Neck Disability Index(NDI). Results : 1. Group B was significantly decreased in VAS, NDI after 3 days of treatment. 2. Group B was significantly decreased in PRS after 6 days of treatment. 3. Group A was significantly decreased in VAS, PRS and NDI after 9 days of treatment. 4. Group B compared with the Group A was decreased in VAS and NDI after 12 days of treatment. 5. Group B compared with the Group A was significantly decreased in PRS after 9 days of treatment. Conclusions : We found out that kinesio taping treatment is considered to be effective and useful on nuchal pain caused by traffic accidents.
In this study, we presented a newly synthesized pyrene-naphthalene diimide(NDI)-pyrene triad. The optical and structural properties were examined using various characterization techniques. A donor-acceptor-donor triad molecule exhibited a strong charge transfer, though there existed neither intramolecular nor intermolecular hydrogen bonding sites, due to the formation of preferential complementary complex between pyrene and NDI. Powder XRD measurement revealed a sharp and distinctive X-ray patterns, indicating the presence of microcrystalline-like structure. POM images showed anisotropic fingerprint texture similar to that of cholesteric phase, and SEM images showed numerous columnar structures with length of 1 to $10{\mu}m$. Above observation clearly demonstrated that ${\pi}$-complementary NDI-pyrene interactions in the traid was strong enough to form columnar aggregates in the long range.

Objectives The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of supine JS cervical therapy and muscle release/strengthening technique in patients with acute neck pain caused by traffic accidents. Methods We studied 42 patients with acute neck pain caused by traffic accidents from July 1, 2019 to November 30, 2019. The study was conducted as a retrospective study which analyzes the patient's medical records. 21 patients (group A) had received supine JS cervical therapy and 21 patients (group B) had received muscle release/strengthening technique. We used the neck disability index (NDI) and visual analog scale (VAS) to evaluate improvements in symptoms and pain, and used the five point Likert scale to evaluate patient's satisfaction with chuna manual therapy. In each group, we compared the NDI and VAS of hospitalization day to those of 5 days later. Then we compared the NDI, VAS variation and five point Likert scale between the groups. Statistical analysis was conducted using the IBM SPSS for windows 25.0. Result Both group A and group B showed a statistically significant decrease in the NDI and VAS on the 5th day of hospitalization. In group A, there was a statistically significant decrease in the NDI compared to group B. The VAS and Five Point Likert Scale decrease was greater in group A than in group B, but the difference was not statistically significant. Conclusion We found that using supine JS cervical therapy may be more effective than muscle release/strengthening technique in acute stage after traffic accidents.
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of treatment with Sacro-Occipital Technique block on musculoskeletal pain caused by traffic accident by analysis of the Visual Analogue Scale(VAS), Neck Disability Index(NDI), Pain Disability Index(PDI), Oswestry Low back Pain Disability Index(ODI) and Short Form - McGill Pain Qusetionnaire (SF-MPQ). Methods : This study carried out on 18 patients who have received hospital treatment in Daejeon Univ. Dun-San Oriental Hospital. Control group got acupunture-therapy, herbal medication, physical therapy and Experimental group got all the therapies and treatment with Sacro-Occipital Technique block. PURPOSE: This study tries attempted to provide basic clinical data to reduce pain and improve function by comparing the muscle fatigue of the superficial neck muscles and neck disability index (NDI) by performing McKenzie exercise or passive stretching exercise for chronic neck pain patients. METHODS: Sixteen chronic neck pain patients were selected and divided into the McKenzie group (n=8) and passive stretching group (n=8). The intervention program was performed three times a week for four weeks. The time for one exercise was 30 minutes. Before the intervention, the muscle fatigue the superficial neck muscles and NDI were measured. They were measured again after four weeks using the same method. RESULTS: The median frequency of the superficial neck muscles increased significantly in the McKenzie group and passive stretching group (p<.05). The NDI of both the McKenzie group and the passive stretching group decreased significantly. A comparison of the groups, revealed a significant difference in only the median frequency values of the upper trapezius muscle and splenius capitis muscle (p<.05). The NDI values of both groups were similar. CONCLUSION: Both McKenzie exercise and passive stretching exercises showed a significant difference in the degree of fatigue and NDI. McKenzie exercise delayed the replace of the fast twitch fibers which helped improve the muscle fatigue of the upper trapezius muscle and splenius capitis muscle. On the other hand, additional studies applying more variables for the muscle function to improve the symptom of chronic neck pain patients will be needed.
