흉상환조가공 전용 CAM 시스템 개발 (Development of a Dedicated CAM System for Human Bust Machining)

  • We have developed a prototype dedicated CAM system for machining a human bust that is not a relief. The input is STL file format, and the output is NC-codes for machining on a 3-axis general purpose CNC milling machine with an index table attached. Main modules are STL import, STL transformation, modeling jig/fixture, master model generation, and calculation of machining area. System architecture is proposed and main modules are briefly described. We adopted the angle between tool-axis and the surface normal vector to calculate machining area, and tested at several degrees.

  • This paper presents a new methodology for on-line tool breakage detection by sensor fusion concept of an acoustic-emission (AE) sensor. A built-in piezoelectric force sensor was used to measure cutting force instead of a tool dynamometer to preserve the machine tool dynamics. he sensor was inserted in the tool turret housing of an NC lathe. FEM analysis was carried out to locate the most sensitive position for the sensor. When a tool is broken, the explicit changes of signals' pattern take place. A burst-type AE signal increases abruptly. Followingly, a cutting force drops significantly. Therefore a burst of AE signal is used as a triggering signal to inspect the following cutting force. Significant drop of cutting force is utilized to detect tool breakage. The algorithm was implemented in a DSP board for in-process tool breakage detection. The proposed monitoring system was capable of a good applicable tool breakage detection.

선삭 가공 사이클 단축 시뮬레이션 (Cycle Reduction Simulation for Turning Process)

  • Productivity of machining using machine tools is affected by cutting conditions such as cutting speed, feedrate and depth. However, undesirable conditions that lengthen the machining cycle and shorten the tool life occur frequently because determination of cutting condition is known to depend on human experience. This paper presents a method of cycle reduction by removing undesirable conditions. For cycle reduction, maximum cutting load is determined using commercial FEM simulation code. The feedrate in the NC program is altered based on a predetermined cutting load value. To make a decision on the proposed effectiveness, a simulation is performed for the brake hub parts of an automobile. From the evaluation, it was found that the cycle reduction was under 15%.

  • 뿌리산업 중 모든 산업을 뒷받침하고 있는 금형과 소성가공 분야에 대한 핵심분야는 공작기계(NC/CNC)에 있다고 볼 수 있다. 금형과 가공기계 분야 중 금형분야에 적용되는 대부분의 공작기계는 대부분 i-계열(모니터링 기능탑재)이 대부분이며, 지속적 성장세를 보이고 있다. 이러한 추세를 보아 향 후 10년 이내에 가공분야 적용되는 공작기계는 모니터링 기능을 기본적으로 탑제된 시스템이 널리 보급 될 것으로 전망된다. 이러한 산업의 변화에 맞추어 모니터링 프로그램의 활용과 다양한 정보를 요구하고 있지만, 실제 금형산업 현장의 대부분은 모니터링 프로그램을 활용 할 수 없는 오래된 구형장비들로 이루어져 있어 새로운 기능 제품에 대한 도입이 필요한 실정이다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 구형 모델에 대한 단점을 보완하기 위하여 기존의 구형장비를 신형장비와 같이 공작기계의 장업상태를 모니터링 할 수 있는 장비를 연구개발하여 실용화 가능성을 검토하고자 한다.

  • Reverse engineering is an emerging technology to obtain CAD models from existing physical parts in the case that CAD models are not available or paras are changed an(1 modified so that new CAD models for final parts are necessary. Reverse engineering helps designers to quickly generate computer interpretable data from existing Physical objects So it is applying for field of Rapid Prototyping NC Processing CAE, Inspection and so on. The objective of this study is to develop the software that deals with unorganized point data and quickly obtains CAD model. In this paper, several models such as human\`s bone, car, are experimented by the proposed methods.

절삭공정의 적응제어에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Adaptive Control in Machining Process)

  • Adaptive control technique for a milling process is developed and implemented in an NC milling machine retrofitted to enable the micro-computer control. The control algorithm has the objects to guarantee the optimal tool life which can give the predetemined allowable lower limit of surface roughness. The experimental results show 1) that the extended tool life equation has good reliability in normal tool wear conditions. 2) and that the proposed adaptive control technique, which determine the optimal cutting condition by basing on the tool life equation modified continually according to the tool wear measured in real time, performs well.

  • A roughing process is one of the most important and indispensable shoe manufacturing processes of various types of shoes. This basic process to rough the upper of the shoe is studied to improve the productivity and to reduce the processing time. In this study, the CAM system for shoe roughing is developed. The B-spline surface generated by the developed CAM system ignores the small inclinations of the real roughing surface because the developed roughing tool has potential to rough the roughing surface of the shoe properly. The roughing tool roughs the roughing surface using its side along the generated tool paths. The generated NC codes were applied to 5-axis polishing machine for the test. Experimental results show good evaluation result. The upper of the shoe is roughed properly along the roughing path line and the roughing surface was good to cement the outsole of the shoe.

  • Increasing demands on precision machining with computerized numerical control (CNC) machines have necessitated that the tool to move not only position error as small as possible, but also with smoothly varying feedrates in space. This paper presents a new high precision interpolation algorithm for 3-dimensional (3D) Non-Uniform Rational B-Spline (NURBS) curve in the reference-pulse CNC technique. Based on the minimum path error strategy, real-time NURBS interpolator was developed in software and this was implemented with a PC-NC milling machine. The several experimental results have shown that the proposed NURBS interpolator is useful for the high precision machining of complex shapes. It is expected that this algorithm can be applied to the CNC machines for the machining of 3D free-form surfaces.

  • Roundness measurement method using three displacement sensors makes in-process roundness measurement possible on the NC machine because it eliminates the vibration signal and eccentricity signal from measured roundness signal from the workpiece. But if measured signals contain noises, high precision measurement of the roundness isn't possible. In this study, a high precision in-process roundness measurement system is developed, which applies a Kalman filter to the roundness measurement method using three displacement sensors and can be used to measure vibration of the spindle.

  • The efficient and economical use of an FMS presupposes a good capability : flexibility, reliability, maintainability and built-in quality assurance. One subsystem of an FMS, which often increases capability, is the tooling management. The main problems associated with tooling in an FMS are large variety of tools, many setups, insufficient use of presetted tools, tool condition control, tool shortages, errors in tooling data and maintainence. This paper presents a reseach on the development of a system which manages the tool data for the factory using NC turning machines. The tool information concerning each production stages of the industry is studied in the CIM(Computer Integrated Manufacturing) view point.
