회전형상의 자유곡면가공을 위한 4축 CAM 모쥴의 개발 (Four-axis CAM module for NC machining of rotational-free-surface)

  • Rotational-free-surface (RFS) is a special type of free surface whose two boundaries coincide. For NC machining of PFS, a rotational axis as well as three Cartesian axes are required. In this paper, we develop a four-axis CAM module consisting of: a) Geometric modeling of RFS, b) CL-data generation, and c) Graphic simulation of machining operation. To test the validity and effectiveness of the developed module, several test cuts are made with Bridgeport CNC milling machine and compared with the graphic simulation.

  • Recently the needs for the experts who can solve the complex problem arising at the special areas are continuously increasing in our social life. So many researchers have studied about the expert systems as a part of an artificial intelligence during last two decades. This study was carried out in order to develope an expert system, ESSM, for the NC data generation to machine the curved surface of a forming die to fabricate the shadow mask of TV Brown Tube.

자동차 프레스 금형의 스티로폼-패턴 가공을 위한 전용 CAM 시스템 개발 (Development of a Dedicated CAM System for Styrofoam-pattern Machining)

  • A dedicated CAM(Computer-Aided Manufacturing) system has been developed, which generated tool-path to machine Styrofoam stamping die-patterns in Chrysler Corporation. A previous process to build die-patterns was to "stick build" the pattern, in which stock is cut & glued together, and then the NC machining of part-surface shape completes building a Styrofoam die-pattern. The current process utilizes the developed CAM system, and almost removes the manual work, consequently reduces the overall lead time. The paper presents the overall system structures, tool-path generation, and some features of Styrofoam pattern machining.

  • NC 공작기계가 생산현장에 도입된 이래 이를 Computer와 연결함으로써 CAD/CAM/CAE의 결합이 실현되어가고 있다. 최근에는 CAD/CAM/CAE와 더불어 생산공정에 있었서 여러 대의 NC공작기계, 로보트, 운송장치를 결합하고 공구관리나 생산관리까지도 Computer를 이용하고자 하는 소위 CIM(Computer Intergrated Manufacturing)시스템에 관한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있으며 여기에 생산가공 시스템의 상태 변화량의 감지를 통하여 공정상태를 종합적으로 감시, 진단할 수 있는 시스템(M & D : Monitoring and Diagnosis)에 대한 필요성도 증대되고 있다. 이는 생산 공정에 있어서의 궁극적 과제인 생산 자동화 혹은 무인 자동화의 가능성을 한층 높여준다.

  • DNC(Direct Numerical Control) Network을 위한 프로그램을 효율적으로 하기위해 현재 많은 시스템들이 개발되어 사용되고 있다. 그러나 이 시스템들은 원거리 상의 컴퓨터와 머시닝센터간의 상호 연결이 원만하지 않아 작업에 비효율적인 면이 있고, 또 머시닝 센터에서의 데이터 송 수신에서 일어나는 오류 문제에 대한 시스템으로의 적절한 대처를 할 수가 없다는 문제점이 있다. 그래서, 본 논문에서는 DNC Network을 통해 리C(Numerical Control) 선반 제어기에서 컴퓨터의 데이터를 오류 없이 수신 가능한 데이터 원격 제어 시스템을 새로이 구성하였다. 이 데이터 원격 제어 시스템의 주요 장점으로는 머시닝 센터에서 운영자가 쉽게 컴퓨터에 저장된 NC 데이터 호출과 송출이 자유롭고, 컴퓨터와 공작기계간의 상호 대화가 없이도 NC 기계상에서의 원격 제어(Remote Control)가 가능하다.

자유곡면의 NC 황삭가공을 위한 자동 공구 선정과 경로 생성 (Automatic Tool Selection and Path Generation for NC Rough Cutting of Sculptured Surface)

  • An efficient algorithm is proposed to select the proper tools and generate their paths for NC rough cutting of dies and molds with sculptured surfaces. Even though a milling process consists of roughing, semi-finishing, and finishing, most material is removed by a rough cutting process. Therfore it can be said that the rough cutting process occupy an important portion of the NC milling process, and accordingly, an efficient rough cutting method contributes to an efficient milling process. In order work, the following basic assumption is accepted for the efficient machining. That is, to machine a region bounded by a profile, larger tools should be used in the far inside and the region adjacent to relatively simple portion of the boundary while smaller tools are used in the regions adjacent to the relatively complex protion. Thus the tools are selected based on the complexity of the boundary profile adjacent to the region to be machined. An index called cutting path ratio is proposed in this work as a measure of the relative complexity of the profile with respect to a tool diameter. Once the tools are selected, their tool paths are calculated starting from the largest to the smallest tool.

  • Finish machining of a curved surface is often carried out by an NC system with curved interpolation in a high speed machining strategies. This study aims to develop the NURBS interpolator for the PC-NC based machine tools. In the case of a finish cut using a ball-end mill in high speed machining, low machinability at the bottom of a tool produces a harmful effect on surface roughness. The developed interpolator considers the relation between inclined angle, surface roughness, and feed rate, and adjusts real-time feed rate in order to generate surfaces which have isotropic surface roughness. The proposed interpolator is fully implemented and an experimental results are shown.

  • In the work, a new computerized incremental forming method having high flexibility has been developed. In the mothod, the ordinary tools are replaced by various small tools, and only the small local region of a sheet blank is incrementally by movement of these tools. Since a small tool moves over the arbitrary surface ofthe dies using a NC machine, it is possible to produce three-dimensional and non-symmetric parts directly from CAD data. Arbitrarily shaped dies are made by LOM(Laminated Object Manufacturing), which is one of the Rapid Prototyping Methods. A forming machine is designed and developed by introducing a computer to control the movement of the tools.

Automated machinability checking for sculptured surface manufacture

  • Determining tool-approach directions is an important issue when an effort is made to transfer CAD data into manufacturing automatically. An algorithm is developed to determine whether a given part can be machined on a three-axis milling machine. lf a set of feasible tool-approach directions exists for a sculptured surface, the NC tool path and G-codes for machining the surface on a three-axis milling machine can be generated automatically by an NC tool path generation algorithm. The algorithm can be used for orientation and fixturing of the workpiece for interference free machining. The algorithm can also be applied to checking the translational separability of polyhedral parts in automatic assembly.

항공기 대형구조물의 고속가공에 관한 연구 (A Study on the High Speed Machining of Major Structure in Aircraft)

  • The study on high speed machining was conducted for wing and rib parts of major structure in aircraft in order to investigate a optimal cutting condition and machining method using a high speed machine with 33,000rpm. Preliminary tests, such as high speed cutter test and spindle vibration test of high speed machine, were performed and the high speed machining was conducted in 3times after the preliminary test results were applied to a NC program for manufacturing.
