Volatile Flavor Components of Cultivated Radish (Raphanus sativus L.) Sprout (재배한 무순의 향미성분)

  • The consumption of radish ( Rhaphanus sativus L.) sprout, which is Cruciferae family, is increasing because of its pungent flavor and taste. Its volatile components were analyzed by SDE (simultaneous steam distillation & extraction) method and P&T(purge & cryogenic trapping) method. As a solvent, diethyl ether and diethyl ether : pentane mixture(2:1, v/v) were used in SDE method, and diethyl ether in P&T method. Analyzing by GC and GC-MS, the major component was sulfur compounds (19 species, peak area 76.6%) with diethyl ether, sulfur compounds(15. 44.0%) and hydrocarbons(23, 23.8%) with diethyl ether-pentane mixture in SDE method. Also, hydrocarbons(25, 84.1% ) was major component in P& T method. The major volatile component of fresh radish sprout were n-heptane, methyl pentane and that of boiled radish sprout were 4-methylthio-3-butenyl isothiocyanate, methyl mercaptane, 2,3-dimethyl disulfide. Low molecular volatile components were detected more by P& T method, but types and relative quantities of volatile components were measured less comparing to SDE method.

Extraction of Deasphalted Oil from Vacuum Residue (감압잔사유로부터 탈아스팔트오일의 추출)

  • In order to maximize the utility of vacuum residue, supercritical solvent extraction technique where n-pentane was used as a supercritical solvent was applied to obtain deasphalted oil from vacuum residue. Oil-extraction yield at various temperatures and pressures and the contents of metal complex and sulfur of extracted oil were investigated. In supercritical state, extraction yield of deasphalted oil was found to be strongly dependent on the n-pentane density, and the metal complex content of extracted oil was effectively lowered when compared with that of vacuum residue. However, the sulfur content of extracted oil showed little difference when compared with that of vacuum residue.

  • Bioreduction with active dried baker's yeast proceeded smoothly in n-hexane, pentane or petroleum ether as an organic solvent system. Ethyl(1) and octyl 3-oxohexanoate(2) were reduced to $({\underline{R}})-ethyl(3)$ and $({\underline{S}})-octyl$ 3-hyroxy-hexanoate(4) with high enantiomeric excess, respectively.

  • Ethanolic tetracarbonylhydridoferrate solution combined with glutaraldehyde is a very effective reducing agent for the selective transformation of two moles of secondary amines into pentane-1,5-diamine derivatives. A variety of aliphatic secondary amines react with ferrate-glutaraldehyde at room temperature under carbon monoxide to give the corresponding N-substituted pentane-1,5-diamines in reasonable yields.

Odor Characteristics of Essential Oil of Valeriana fauriei var. dasycarpa HARA (광릉쥐오줌풀의 정유향 특성)

  • This study was conducted to know the odor characteristics and compounds in neutral, acidic and basic fraction from the essential oil of Valerliana fauriei root. Among the fraction from the essential oil of V. fauriei root, the content of neutral fraction was 92%, that of the acidic fraction, 6%, and that of basic and phenolic fractions, less than 1%, respectively. The neutral fraction was characterized by sweet-balsamic, woody, musky and medicinal odor. The acidic fraction had sweat-socks, valeric-like and cheese-like odor characters. The netural fraction of essential oil was fractionated by solvents with different polarities, resulting in 44% of ethyl ether fraction, 34% of pentane-ethyl ether fraction, 11% of pentane fraction and 11% of methanol fraction. The ethyl ether fraction was characterized by woody and medicinal odor and the pentane-ethyl ether fraction, by sweet-balsamic, woody and herb-like odor. The fractions were fractionated again by different solvents, and 12 chemical components including valeranone, 26 components including bornyl acetate, and 43 components including camphene were identified in the ethyl ether fraction, the pentane - ethyl ether fraction, and pentane fraction, respectively. In the acidic fraction, n-butanoic acid and other 44 components were identified, among which the most abundant ones were 3-methyl butanoic acid(42.1%), dimethoxy-2-propanoic acid(11.5%), and 5-­ethyldihydro-2H-furanone(5.7%).

  • 본 연구에서는 자연에너지인 태양열을 이용하여 물 펌프를 구동할 목적으로 n-pentane을 작동물질로 하는 열에너지의 동력변환 실험을 수행하고 작동물질의 온도, 압력, 힘을 측정, 계산하고 분석하였으며, n-pentane을 이용하면 양정 10m 이상은 충분히 양수할 수 있는 것으로 판단되었다. 작동물질의 엑서지를 분석하여 작동물질의 작동온도범위를 결정하여 예상사이클선도를 결정하였고, 양수 량을 고정하였을 경우 사이클횟수와 하루의 양수량, 열효율을 계산하고 분석하였다.

  • Separation of deasphalted oil from atmospheric residue using n-pentane as a solvent was carried out to obtain the valuable heavy hydrocarbon products that can be used lube base oil. After separation experiments, it is shown that the separation yield of oil from atmospheric residue was dependent on n-pentane density and increased in the critical region of n-pentane. Also, the metal content of separated oil was much lowered when compared with that of atmospheric residue. However, there's slight differences in sulfur removal between above two cases.

  • To enhance the productivity of fruit flavor compounds from whey by the lactose fermenting yeast, Kluyveromyces lactzs ATCC 8585 was treated with N-methyI-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine (NTG). After the NTG treatments, a mutant showing resistance to antifungal activity of geraniol, and strong fruity but low yeasty flavor was selected and named as K. lactis 450 K. Flavor compounds from 3-day culture broth were extracted with pentane-dichloromethane (2:l) and the concentrated oleoresins were analyzed by gas chromatography. The mutant strain produced more classes and larger amount of flavor compounds than the parent stlain. Tentatively identified volatile compounds from the culture of the mutant were: terpenes such as myrcenol; alcohols such as cis-3-hexenol, n-hexanol; esters such as ethyl isovalerate, cis- 3-hexenyl n-butyrate, n-amyl-n-hexanoate, phenyl ethyl n-propioate; ketones such as methyl vinyl ketones; other compounds such as vanillin, 3-methylcoumarin.

토양내 총 NAPL과 공기접촉 NAPL의 측정을 위한 분별 NAPL 분배 추적자 기술의 개발

  • Gaseous partitioning tracer test has been used for determining the volume and spatial distribution of residual non-aqueous phase liquid (NAPL) in the unsaturated soils. In this study, an experimental method for measuring the content of gas-exposed NAPL as well as that of total NAPL in a sand during air sparging was developed. Two different gaseous phase NAPL-partitioning tracers were used; n-pentane, with very low water solubility, was used as the tracer that partitions into NAPL that is only in contact with the mobile gas, and chloroform, with fairly good water solubility, was selected for detecting total NAPL content in the sand. Helium and difluromethanewere used as the non- reactive tracer and water-partitioning tracers, respectively. Using n-decane as a model NAPL (NAPL saturation of 0.018), 25.6% of total NAPL was detected by n-pentane at the water saturation of 0.68. Oniy 9.1% of total NAPL was detected by n-pentane at the water saturation of 0.84. This result implies that the quantity of gas-exposed NAPL increased about three times when the water saturation decreased from 0.84 to 0.68. At the water saturation of 0.68, more than 90% of total NAPL was detected by chloroform while 65.8% of total NAPL was detected by chloroform at the water saturation of 0.84. Considering that the removal rate of NAPL during air sparging for NAPL-contaminated aquifer is expected to be greatly dependent upon the spatial arrangement of NAPL phase with respect to the mobile gas, this new approach may provide useful information for investigating the mass transfer process during air-driven remedial processes fer NAPL-contaminated subsurface environment.
