노말테트라데칸의 연소특성치 측정에 의한 위험성 평가 (The Evaluation of Hazard by Measurement of Combustible Characteristics of n-Tetradecane)

  • For the safe handling of n-tetradecane, the lower flash points and the upper flash point, fire point, AITs (auto-ignition temperatures) by ignition delay time were experimented. Also lower and upper explosion limits by using measured the lower and upper flash points for n-tetradecane were calculated. The lower flash points of n-tetradecane by using closed-cup tester were measured $104^{\circ}C$ and $112^{\circ}C$. The lower flash points and fire point of n-tetradecane by using open cup tester were measured $113^{\circ}C$ and $115^{\circ}C$, respectively. This study measured relationship between the AITs and the ignition delay times by using ASTM E659 apparatus for n-tetradecane. The experimental AIT of n-tridecane was $207^{\circ}C$. The calculated lower and upper explosion limit by using measured lower $104^{\circ}C$ and upper flash point $140^{\circ}C$ for n-tetradecane were 0.63 Vol.% and 3.18 Vol%.

Comparison between Water and N-Tetradecane as Insulation Materials through Modeling and Simulation of Heat Transfer in Packaging Box for Vaccine Shipping

  • This study reports on the modeling and simulation of heat transfer in packaging boxes used for vaccine shipping. Both water and n-tetradecane are used as primary insulation materials inside a multi-slab system. The one-dimensional model, which is a spherical model using a radius equivalent to the rectangular geometry of container, is applied in this study. N-tetradecane with low thermal diffusivity and proper phase transition temperature exhibits higher heat transfer resistance during both heating and cooling processes compared to water. Thus, n-tetradecane is a better candidate as an insulating material for packaging containers for vaccine shipping. Furthermore, the developed method can also become a rapid and economic tool for screening appropriate phase change materials used as insulation materials with suitable properties in logistics applications.

N-tetradecane/Water Emulsion as a Low-cost Phase Change Material for Efficient Packaging and Shipping of Vaccines

  • This study presents the preparation of n-tetradecane-in-water emulsions with different weight ratios of n-tetradecane and water, and their potential application in packaging and shipping vaccines. The size and distribution of the n-tetradecane droplets are characterized using optical microscopy and light scattering methods, respectively. The thermal properties of the emulsions are determined using the T-history method. In the results, the emulsions, which are comprised of 17 ~ 30 wt% oil, 3 wt% surfactant, and 67 ~ 80 wt% water, are stable and have droplet sizes in the range of 100 to 800 nm. The thermal properties demonstrate that subcooling is prevented through increasing the droplet size. The results indicate that the n-tetradecane/water emulsions containing 25 ~ 35 wt% n-tetradecane, with a melting point of $2{\sim}8^{\circ}C$ and a latent heat of $227.0{\sim}250.8kJ\;kg^{-1}$, are good candidate materials for packaging and shipping vaccines.

DMDBTDMA의 합성 및 방사선 분해산물의 GC/MS 분석 (Synthesis of DMDBTDMA and determination of radiolysis products by GC/MS)

  • 방사성 액체폐기물의 용매추출 공정에서 발생되는 방사선 분해현상을 연구하기 위하여 추출제로 사용되는 dimethyldibutyltetradecylmalonamide (DMDBTDMA)를 합성하고, 합성된 DMDBTDMA를 $^{60}Co$ 감마 방사선으로 조사시킬 때 생성되는 방사선 분해산물을 정량 분석하였다. 방사선 조사된 DMDBTDMA에 대한 FT-IR 스펙트럼과 EI-질량스텍트럼 및 GC/MS-SIM 방법으로 측정한 결과를 바탕으로 n-methylbutylamine, tetradecane, 1-tetradecanol 3종의 방사선 분해산물의 존재를 확인하였다. 3종의 방사선 분해산물 농도는 이들 표준물질과 n-dodecane을 내부표준물질(ISTD)로 사용하여 GC/MS-SIM 방법으로 정량 분석하였다. 방사선 분해산물에 대한 총 이온 크로마토그램에서 나타난 머무름 거동, 분리도와 해상도 측면에서 만족스런 결과를 얻었으며, 총 이온 크로마토그램에서 n-methylbutylamine, n-dodecane, tetradecane 및 1-tetradecanol 각각의 성분에 대한 피크 검출시간은 각각 2.35분, 8.83분, 10.68분 및 12.75분 이었다. 그리고 tetradecane은 방사선 분해산물의 농도가 DMDBTDMA의 방사선 흡수선량과 비례하는 상관관계를 확인하였다.

  • 脂質 生産의 새로운 供給源으로 고려될 수 있는 石油炭化水素 醱酵에 의한 菌體脂質의 生成에 있어서 炭化水素의 炭素數의 影響과 그 脂肪酸의 組成을 檢討하였다. 菌株로서 Rhodotorula sp., 基質로서 炭素數가 짝수인 n-tetradecane과 n-hexadecane을 使用하여 容量 2l의 醱酵槽에서 溫度 $28^{\circ}C$, pH 4.0 ∼ 4.6, 酸素供給速度 0.4vvm, 攪拌速度 1000 rpm의 條件에서 醱酵시켜 生成된 菌體를 回收, 乾燥後 菌體脂質을 抽出하고 gas-liquid chromatography로 醱酵酸 組成을 檢索한 바, n-tetradecane과 n-hexadecane을 基質로 한 경우, 生成菌體의 脂質含量은 各各 12.0 및 25,8 %이었으며 菌體 脂肪酸은 大部分 炭素數가 짝수인 脂肪酸으로 構成되어 있었다.

원통형 축냉조내 구형캡슐들의 축냉에 관한 실험 연구 (Experimental Study on the Cold Storage of Spherical Capsules in the Cylindrical Tank)

  • The present work was performed to axially and radially investigate the local cold storage performance in the cylindrical tank with the spherical capsules inserted n-Tetradecane as a new cold storage material. The local cold storage performance of the capsules in the tank was experimentally investigated for the inlet temperature of -7, -5, -3, 0.deg. C, for the flow rate of 0.95, 1.89, 2.84, 6.00 l/min, and for the diameter ratio of 4.9, 9.0, 13.1. The local cold storage performance in the case of using water applied for the commercial ice-ball system was axially investigated by changing the flow rate only with the inlet temperature of -7.deg. C and the diameter ratio of 9.0 in order to compare with the performance in the case of using n-Tetradecane. For the case of using n-Tetradecane, the difference of cold storage period between the first and the seventh story was increased as the inlet temperature was increased and the flow rate was decreased. The capsules at the center of the tank showed the supercooling and the increased cold storage period compared with the capsules at the wall of the tank due to the small porosity and insufficient cold storage performance at the center of the tank as the diameter ratio is increased. The case using water showed worse cold storage performance due to comparatively large supercooling than the case using n-Tetradecane.

Heat Transfer Characteristics of the Spherical Capsule Storage System Using Paraffins

  • The present study is to investigate the effect of experimental parameters on the heat transfer characteristics of a spherical capsule storage system using paraffins. N-Tetradecane and mixture of n-Tetradecane 40% and n-Hexadecane 60% were used as paraffins. Water with inorganic material was also tested for the comparison. The experimental parameters were varied for the Reynolds number from 8 to 16 and for the inlet temperature from -7 to 2$^{\circ}C$. Measured local temperatures of spherical capsules in the storage tank were utilized to calculate charging and discharging times, dimensionless thermal storage amount, and the average heat transfer coefficients in the tank. Local charging and discharging times in the storage tank were significantly different. The effect of inlet temperature on charging time was larger than that on discharging time, but the effect of Reynolds number on charging time was smaller than that on discharging time. Charging time of paraffins was faster by 11~72% than that of water with inorganic material, but little difference of discharging time was found among them. The effect of Reynolds number on the dimensionless thermal storage was less during charging process and more during discharging process than the effect of inlet temperature. The effect of the inlet temperature and the Reynolds number on the average heat transfer coefficient of the storage tank was stronger during discharging process than during charging process. The average heat transfer coefficients of the spherical capsule system using paraffins were larger by 40% than those using water.

낙동강수계 주요 하·폐수처리장 방류수내 미량유해물질 모니터링 (Monitoring of Hazardous Chemicals for Effluents of STPs and WWTP in the Nakdong River Basin)

  • This study was investigated twenty two hazardous chemicals compounds for effluents of nine sewage treatment plants (STPs) and one waste water treatment plant (WWTP) in the Nakdong Ri-ver Basin. They are eleven phthalates(DMP, DEP, DIBP, DBP, BEEP, DNPP, DHP, DCP, DEHP, DNOP, Dinonyl phthalate, seven aliphatic hydrocarbons(n-Tridecane, n-Tetradecane, n-Pentadecan-e, n-Hexadecane, n-Heptadecane, n-Octadecane, n-Nonadecane, Isoquinoline, 2-Chloropyridine, 2-N-itrophenol, and Benzophenone. The twenty two compounds were analyzed by gas chromatograp-hy mass spectrometry (GC/MS) with liquid-liquid extraction (LLE). Twenteen of twenty two subs-tances were detected. They were DMP, DEP, DIBP, DBP, DEHP, n-Tetradecane, n-Pentadecane, n-Heptadecane, n-Octadecane, n-Nonadecane, Isoquinoline and Benzophenone. Among these, DEHP, DEP and Benzophenone were most frequently observed. They were obtained as $ND{\sim}36.881{\mu}g/L$, $ND{\sim}0.950{\mu}g/L$, $ND{\sim}2.019{\mu}g/L$, respectively. When the substances were calculated the average concentration at 10 points, the maximum average detection concentration was investigated at the Dalseocheon STP.

남해안 해수로부터 원유 분해 세균의 분리 및 특성 (Isolation and Characterization of Oil Degrading Bacteria from Southern Sea of Korea)

  • 남해안 유류 오염지역으로부터 유류분해능이 우수한 균주를 선별하여 동정한 결과 Pseudomonas aeruginosa로 동정되었으며, Pseudomonas aeruginosa BYK-2로 명명하였다. 균 성장 및 생물 유화제 생산을 위한 최적배양온도, 시간, pH, NaCl 농도는 각각 $25^{\circ}C$, 48시간, 7.0 이었으며, NaCl은 첨가하지 않았을 때 가장 많은 양의 생물유화체가 생산되었다. 본 균주의 경우, 1%(w/v) arabian light 원유와 bunker C oil을 기질로 7일간 배양한 결과 92.1%(w/w)와 76.2%(w/w)가 생분해되었다. n-hexadccane 에 대한 세포부착능이 실험에서는 탄화수소화합물들(arabian light 원유, kuwait 원유, bunker C 유, n-paraffine, n-hexadecane, n-tetradecane)을 기질로 배양했을때는 모두 80% 이상의 높은 세포부착능을 나타냈으며, 지방산들(oleic acid, olive oil, lecithin)중에는 lecithin을 기질로 배양했을 때 91.5%로 가장 높은 세포부착능을 나타냈어다. 또한 당들(arabinose, trehalose, dextrose, galactose, lactose, fructose, maltose, sorbitol, sucrose)을 기질로 했을 경우 arabinose, galactose, sorbitol, sucrose를 제외하고는 대부분 70%이하의 세포부착능을 나타냈다.

  • The purpose of the present work is to show the best thermal storage material and the sensitivity of the parameters on the thermal performance by experimentally investigating the effects of the parameters on the thermal performance of the spherical capsule system using paraffins superior to the commercial one. The paraffins were n-Tetradecane and the mixture of n-Tetradecane 40% and n-Hexadecane 60%. The experimental parameters were the Reynolds number of 8, 12, and 16 and the inlet temperature of-7, -4, -1, and $2^{\circ}C$. The charging and the discharing time, the dimensionless thermal storage amount, and the averge heat transfer coefficient in the tank were obtained by utilizing the local temperature variation in the tank. The local charging and discharging time in the tank was axially and radially different a lot. The effects of the inlet temperature on the charging and the discharging time were larger during the charging process than during the discharging process, but the effects of the Reynolds number on the charging and the discharging time were in reverse order. The paraffins were better by 11~72% than the water with the inorganic material in the charging time aspect, but no difference in the discharging time aspect. The effects of the Reynolds number on the dimensionless thermal storage amount were smaller than the effects of the inlet temperature during the charging process, but in reverse order during the discharging process within the working range of the experimental parameters. The effects of the inlet temperature and the Reynolds number on the average heat transfer coefficient were larger during the discharging process than during the charging process. The average heat transfer coefficient for the paraffins was larger by 40% maximum than that for the commercial material during the charing and the discharging process.
