Photocatalysis of o-, m- and p-Xylene Using Element-Enhanced Visible-Light Driven Titanium Dioxide

  • Enhancing with non-metallic elemental nitrogen(N) is one of several methods that have been proposed to modify the electronic properties of bulk titanium dioxide($TiO_2$), in order to make $TiO_2$ effective under visible-light irradiation. Accordingly, current study evaluated the feasibility of applying visible-light-induced $TiO_2$ enhanced with N element to cleanse aromatic compounds, focusing on xylene isomers at indoor air quality(IAQ) levels. The N-enhanced $TiO_2$ was prepared by applying two popular processes, and they were coated by applying two well-known methods. For three o-, m-, and p-xylene, the two coating methods exhibited different photocatalytic oxidation(PCO) efficiencies. Similarly, the two N-doping processes showed different PCO efficiencies. For all three stream flow rates(SFRs), the degradation efficiencies were similar between o-xylene and m,p-xylene. The degradation efficiencies of all target compounds increased as the SFR decreased. The degradation efficiencies determined via a PCO system with N-enhanced visible-light induced $TiO_2$ was somewhat lower than that with ultraviolet(UV)-light induced unmodified $TiO_2$, which was reported by previous studies. Nevertheless, it is noteworthy that PCO efficiencies increased up to 94% for o-xylene and 97% for the m,p-xylene under lower SFR(0.5 L $min^{-1}$). Consequently, it is suggested that with appropriate SFR conditions, the visible-light-assisted photocatalytic systems could also become important tools for improving IAQ.

  • The $Ag/TiO_{2-x}N_x$ nanoparticles were synthesized by photochemical deposition in a $TiO_{2-X}N_X$ suspension system. The prepared products were characterized by means of XRD, Uv-vis and photoluminescence spectra (PL). Its photocatalytic activity was investigated by the decomposition of methylene blue (MB) solution under illumination of visible and ultraviolet light, respectively. Compared to $TiO_{2-x}N_x$, the photocatalytic activity of the as-prepared $Ag/TiO_{2-x}N_x$ is obviously enhanced due to the decreasing recombination of a photoexcitated electron-hole pairs. The Mechanism in which photocatalytic activity is enhanced has been discussed in detail.

Cu(Mg) alloy 금속배선에 의한 TiN 확산방지막의 특성개선 (A study on the improvement of TiN diffusion barrier properties using Cu(Mg) alloy)

  • 본 연구에서는 Mg을 첨가한 Cu-alloy에 의해 TiN의 확산방지능력을 향상시키고자 하였다. Cu(Mg) 박막은 대기노출시킨 TiN박막위에 증착되었으며 열처리시 Cu 박막내의 Mg은 TiN의 표면에 있는 산소와 반응하여 매우 얇은(~100 $\AA$) MgO를 형성하게되고 MgO에 의해 TiN의 확산방지능력은 Cu(4.5 at.%Mg)의 경우 $800^{\circ}C$까지 향상됨을 알 수 있었다. 그러나 Cu(Mg) a]toy는 TiN위에서 접착특성이 좋지 않기 때문에 TiN을 $O_2$plasma 처리하였으며 $O_2$ plasma 처리후 $300^{\circ}C$ 진공열처리를 통해 접착력이 크게 향상되는 것을 알 수 있었다. 이는 $O_2$ plasma 처리에 의해 TiN표면에 Mg과 반응할 수 있는 산소의 양이 증가하는 데 기인하며 이에 따라 Mg의 계면이동이 크게 증가되어 치밀한 MgO가 형성됨을 확인하였다. 그리고 $O_2$ plasma 처리시 RF power를 증가시키면 계면으로 이동하는 Mg의 양이 오히려 감소하였고 이것은 TiN의 표면이 $TiO_2$로 변하여 Mg과 결합할 수 있는 산소의 양이 상대적으로 감소하였기 때문인 것으로 생각된다. 또한 접착층으로서 Si을 50$\AA$ 증착하여 접착력을 크게 향상시켰으며 Si 증착에 의한 TiN의 확산방지능력은 감소되지 않는 것을 알 수 있었다.

Enhanced Visible Light Activity and Stability of TiO2 Nanopowder by co-doped with Mo and N

  • A visible light responsive N, Mo co-doped $TiO_2$ were prepared by sol-gel method. X-ray diffraction, TEM, $N_2$ adsorption, UV-vis spectroscopy, photoluminescence, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy were used to characterize the prepared $TiO_2$ samples. Doping restrained the phase transformation from anatase to rutile and reduced the particle sizes. The band gap was much narrowed after N, Mo co-doping. The photocatalytic activities were tested in the degradation of an aqueous solution of a reactive dyestuff, methylene blue, under visible light. The photocatalytic activities of doped $TiO_2$ were much higher than that of neat $TiO_2$. The photocatalytic stability of N, Mo co-doped $TiO_2$ was much better than that of N doped $TiO_2$.

Visible-photoresponsive Nitrogen-Doped Mesoporous TiO2 Films for Photoelectrochemical Cells

  • Nitrogen-doped $TiO_2$ ($TiO_2$:N) nano-particles with a pure anatase crystalline structure were successfully synthesized through the hydrolysis of $TiCl_4$ in an ammonia aqueous solution. The samples were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), $N_2$-sorption, and UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectra (UV-vis DRS) techniques. The absorption edge of nitrogen-doped $TiO_2$ shifted into the visible wavelength region. The photoelectrochemical (PEC) performances were investigated for the $TiO_2$ mesoporous electrodes doped with different nitrogen concentrations. The $TiO_2$:N electrodes exhibited much higher PEC responses compared to the pure $TiO_2$ electrode because of the significantly enhanced visible-photoresponsibility of the $TiO_2$:N electrodes.

Influence of Nitrogen Doping and Surface Modification on Photocatalytic Activity of $TiO_2$ Under Visible Light

  • We made attempts to improve photocatalytic activity of $TiO_2$ nanoparticles under visible light exposure by combining two additional treatments. N-doping of $TiO_2$ by ammonia gas treatment at $600^{\circ}C$ increased absorbance of visible light. By coating thin film of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), and subsequent vacuum-annealing at $800^{\circ}C$, $TiO_2$, became more hydrophilic, thereby enhancing photocatalytic activity of $TiO_2$. Four types of $TiO_2$ samples were prepared, bare-$TiO_2$, hydrophilic-modified $TiO_2$ ($h-PDMS/TiO_2$), N-doped $TiO_2$ ($N/TiO_2$) and hydrophilic-modified and N-doped $TiO_2$ ($h-PDMS/N/TiO_2$). Adsorption capability was evaluated under dark condition and photocatalytic activity of $TiO_2$ was evaluated by photodegradation of MB under blue LED (400 nm< ${\lambda}$) irradiation. N-doping on $TiO_2$ was characterized using XPS and hydrophilic modification of $TiO_2$ surface was analyzed by FT-IR spectrometer. It was found that N-doping and hydrophilic modification both had positive effect on enhancing adsorption capability and photocatalytic activity of $TiO_2$ at the same time. Particularly, N-doping enhanced visible light absorption of $TiO_2$, whereas hydrophilic surface modification increased MB adsorption capacity. By combining these two strategies, photocatalytic acitivity under visible light irradiation became the sum of individual effects of N-doping and hydrophilic modification.

플라즈마 화학 증착법에 의한 $Al_2$ $O_3$ 단층피막과 $Al_2$ $O_3$/( $Ti_{0.5}$ $Al_{0.5}$)N 이중피막의 제조 및 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Properties of $Al_2$ $O_3$ and $Al_2$ $O_3$/( $Ti_{0.5}$ $Al_{0.5}$)N Coatings Produced by Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition)

  • $Al_2$$O_3$ coatings were deposited on M2 high speed steels by the plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) process, using a gas mixture of AlC1$_3$, $H_2$, $CO_2$ and Ar $Al_2$$O_3$ coatings had interference color and showed amorphous phase. $A1_2$X$A1_3$/($Ti_{0.5}$ /$Al_{0.5}$ )N double layer coatings were produced in the sequence of substrate $NH_3$ plasma pretreatment, ($Ti_{0.5}$$Al_{0.5}$)N depoition process, $Al_2$$O_3$ deposition process. $Al_2$ $O_3$/( $Ti_{0.5}$A $l_{0.5}$)N double layer coatings showed NaCl structure in ( $Ti_{0.5}$A $l_{0.5}$)N layer and amorphous phase in A1$_2$ $O_3$ layer. It was shown that $Al_2$ $O_3$ columns continuously grew onto ( $Ti_{0.5}$A $l_{0.5}$)N columns. ( $Ti_{0.5}$A $l_{0.5}$)N single coating and $Al_2$ $O_3$/( $Ti_{0.5}$A $l_{0.5}$)N double layer coating were oxidized at $700^{\circ}C$, 80$0^{\circ}C$, 90$0^{\circ}C$ for 1hr, 3hr in atmosphere. At 80$0^{\circ}C$, single layer coatings were oxidized, which were examined substrate oxide particle. But $Al_2$ $O_3$/ ( $Ti_{0.5}$A $l_{0.5}$)N double layer coatings maintained the asdeposited state. Therefore, $Al_2$ $O_3$/ ( $Ti_{0.5}$A $l_{0.5}$)N double layer coatings have moreexcellent oxidation resistance than ( $Ti_{0.5}$A $l_{0.5}$)N single layer coatings.X> 0.5/)N single layer coatings.s.

Preparation of Highly Visible-Light Photocatalytic Active N-Doped TiO2 Microcuboids

  • N-doped $TiO_2$ microcuboids were successfully prepared by a simple one-pot hydrothermal method. The samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. It was found that the N-doped $TiO_2$ microcuboids enhanced absorption in the visible light region, and exhibited higher activity for photocatalytic degradation of model dyes. Based on the experimental results, a visible light induced photocatalytic mechanism was proposed for N-doped anatase $TiO_2$ microcuboids.

질소이온주입을 이용한 티타늄 발색 향상 (Color Enhancement of Titanium with Nitrogen ion Implantation)

  • 열산화막으로 성장시킨 TiO₂/Ti에 70kev의 에너지로 N/sup +/ion 주입을 하고 이때 도우즈 범위를 0, 2, 5, 10×10/sup 17//cm²로 실시하였다. 한편, 이온주입에 따른 표면손상의 회복을 위해 각각 600℃∼2 hr동안 Ar분위기에서 실시하였다. N/sup +/ 도우즈 앙과 열처리에 따라 TiO₂ 색변화, 표면조도, 경도변화를 확인하여 의장용 재료로서의 Ti의 새로운 발색 가능성을 확인하였다. 기존 티타늄 산화층에 N/sup +/ 이온을 주입한 결과 도우즈 증가에 따라 갈색위주의 색변화가 가능하였고, 광택을 나타내는 표면조도는 열처리에 의해서 개선이 가능하였다. 한편 이온주입에 따른 경도는 열처리에 의해 10% 정도 향상이 가능하였다.

  • $TEMAT/H_2$플라즈마를 이용하여 $TiO_{2\pm}{\delta}$를 증착하였다. Power를 300W에서 500W로 증가시켜 고 밀도 플라즈마를 형성시킨 경우에는 Ti 함유량이 크게 증가하였고, 무시할 정도의 C, N이 함유되었다. 기판에 bias를 가한 경우에도 Ti 양이 증가되면서, 증착률이 크게 증가되었다. 또한 매우 적은 양의 $H_2O(~10^{-4}Torr)$는 TEAMT[tetrakis (ethylmethylamido) titanium] 분해를 효율적으로 이루어 주어 C, N의 양을 크게 감소시키면서 $TiO_2$에 요구되는 충분한 O을 제공하였다. 결과적으로 플라즈마 반응에 의하여 생성된 Ti 양이온이 TiOx 박막형성에 주요한 기여를 하고 있으며, 고 밀도 플라즈마의 사용은 Ti 양이온 생성을 크게 증가시켜 주고, 분위기 중에 존재하는 미량의 수분이 TEMAT 분해 효율성을 크게 하여 $TiO_2$박막증착을 이루고 있다.
