  • Recently, the consumption of duck meat has been gradually increased in Korea. However, most of the duck breeds in Korea were imported from overseas. Based on the large demands for the breeding stocks of native ducks, a new project for the commercial use of the Korean native ducks has been launched. For the initial investigation of the relationships between Korean native duck (KND) with other duck breeds, the sequences from D-loop control region in mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) was used. The results from phylogenetic analysis indicated that both KND and White Commercial Duck (WCD) breeds were classified well with wild duck breeds. However, mallard duck was not discriminated well with KND. The haplotype analysis indicated that KND and WCD have eight different haplotypes with eleven SNPs. Three haplotypes (haplotype 1, 3, 4) were shared both in KND and WCD. On the other hand, haplotype 1 was appeared only KND and haplotype 5, 6, 7, 8 were identified only in WCD population. With further verifications, the results presented here can be used for the conservation and commercialization of the Korean native ducks.

  • Lacquer, in addition to high-end crafts such as lacquerware inlaid with mother-of-pearl, was an important strategic material used in a wide range of fields such as industry, architecture, and munitions during the Japanese colonial era. In particular, as the demand for lacquer used in munitions soared in the 1940s when the war started, a ticket system was introduced to restrict its distribution. Meanwhile, Japan experienced a chronic shortage of lacquer as a result of the rapidly increasing demand for it, and thus went on to import Chinese lacquer after the late 19th century. After the 1910s, the market share of Chinese lacquer reached 90%, and the local situation in China began to affect the supply and demand for lacquer in Japan. To counteract the issue, the Japanese government increased the production of lacquer in Joseon. As for the project to increase lacquer production in Joseon, objective indicators were prepared through a number of tests in the 1910s and 20s, which paved the way for the project to begin in earnest in the 1930s. Lacquer trees were planted and training classes on how to collect lacquer were held throughout the country. The Japanese government promoted the lacquer production industry as a promising side job for Koreans. The project, implemented in various parts of the country, reaped fruitful results, and it provided the basis for lacquer production in Korea that has continued to this day. At that time, the major regions in the southern part of the country where the project was concentrated were Wonju, Okcheon, and Hamyang, regions that are still known today as major production sites. The improved method of collecting lacquer taught to Koreans by the Japanese has now become the main method of collecting lacquer in Korea. This study attempts to identify the current status of the project to increase lacquer production through various records from the Japanese colonial era with a view to contributing to the study of modern lacquer craft history.

  • This study was conducted in order to analysis the forest fire effect to the raptors habitating in and around the large forest fire occurred area, Goseong country, Gangwon province, Korea. There were observed raptor birds belonging to 8 species, 3 families, and 2 orders in the survey area. The most dominant species was Eurasian Hobby(Falco subbuteo), which was followed by Common Buzzard(Buteo buteo), Kestrel(Faico tinnunculus) and Chinese Sparrow Hawk(Accipiter soloensis). The largest number of species and individuals were observed in May 2002. In partially undamaged areas and undamaged areas, five species of rapacious birds were observed, which was the largest number of species observed. If an environment where rapacious birds can build nests is created in forest fire damaged area in order to raise the number of species and population, the number of species and population of rapacious birds living in the forest fire damaged area will grow further.

  • Phylogeny of the species mainly from the genus Amynthas in family Megascolecidae was inferred at the molecular level using ITS regions in rDNA. With 26 species of earthworms from 10 genera in 2 families, a stretch comprising the 3'-end of the 18S rRNA, ITS1, 5.8S rRNA, ITS2, and 5' end of 28S rRNA was amplified by applying the primers ITS-1, ITS-2. Phylogenetic analyses of nucleotide sequences with a help of MP, NJ, and QP yielded 5 groups similarly. Genus Amynthas was separated largely into two groups, Korean and Philippine origins. Species grouped into the 1st were Amynthas jirensis, A. agrestis, A. gucheonensis, A. sopaikensis, A. bubonis, A. multimaculatus, A. koreanus, A. dageletensis, A. heteropodus, A. odaesanensis, Pontoscolex sp., Pheretima sp. 1, and Dendropheretima banahawensis. Amynthas halconensis, A. isarogensis, A. mindrooensis, Pithemera sp. 2, Pithmera sp. 1, and Pleionogaster sp. clustered into one clade forming the 2nd group. Polypheretima sp. 1 and polypheretima. sp. 2 stayed closely together representing a separate monophyletic status, forming the 3rd group, apart from species in other genera. Archipheretima sp. falls into the 4th group. Distinct morphological characteristics from Archipheretima also coinsides with its branching away from others in the previously reported molecular analyses. Similar to Perionyx excavatus that has been selected as an outgroup, Aporrectodea tuberculata also showed a long branch in the phylogram, but it differed from other 24 species included in the analyses. Unlike others, for example, its habitat is very closely related to that of man.

  • The act was designed to identify the introductory cases of the use of quick response (QR) codes in records management by public institutions and propose measures to enhance users' satisfaction with their work. This study looked at the definition of the QR codes and the user services that can be provided by the records depository and reviewed the introduction cases using the codes. The reason QR codes are used by records depositors is that public institutions currently have a single-person system that specializes in records management. With the number of employees and the number of records becoming more extensive, explaining the contents of all tasks accurately as well as other professional contents to employees who lack understanding of the records management life cycle is becoming more difficult. The introductory cases were divided into information on how to register nonelectronic records, information on location and history of important records and administrative museum, and education on standard records management. The research was conducted by dividing the research team's "Records Management Guide" (QR code status) into experimental groups and control groups for officials of the Busan Metropolitan Government. There were significant differences in the level of satisfaction with records management guidance depending on whether or not QR codes were used. When the first and second surveys were compared in December 2017 and March 2018, the results of the first survey averaged 2.94, but the second survey showed high results at 3.75 and was statistically significant. This can be said to be more satisfactory by introducing QR codes than guidance provided by existing type. Although this research examines introductory cases of records management by public institutions using QR codes and user satisfaction, future tasks are to be applied to Records Management System and document production systems so that completion can be improved.

  • The Yakhyeon catholic church (Historic Site No. 252 in Korea) that was constructed in 1892 has been the first western brick structure to ever have existed and one of the most important historical materials in the Korean modern architecture. After a fire had broken out at the catholic church in 1998, the stained glass on the back wall, the slab glass (dalle de verre) introduced by Lee Nam Guy in 1974, was repaired in 1999 because of singe scorch and water leakage. An analysis of the coloration elements showed that yellow, red and green included Zn, K and Cd, respectively. The glass of red contained Se, dark green contained Mn and Cr, and blue contained Pb and S. According to material analysis, the masonry joint was identified dolomite ($CaMg(CO_3)_2$) and calcite ($CaCO_3$), which was observed plate, columnar, rhombic and square of crystalline particles. Meanwhile, ultrasonic velocity in the stained glass recorded low speed in the middle and lower right of the window (an average of 4,130 m/s). And the joint was measured the lowest physical properties of the top left and middle of the window (an average of 2,053 m/s). This study have showed that extensive physical damage was founded to the left and middle rather than the right side. In this respect, more research in needed to conserve the correlation between color and physical properties.

  • In Bongseon-ri site, the central type and the local type of the Baekje tombs co-exist together. Many swords with ring pommel which to regional leaders in Seocheon the Beekje government granted are excavated from these tombs. These represent that the regional leaders were controlled by the Baekje government gradually. Four swords with ring pommel and one simple sword are investigated metallurgically and we seek what swords have a function of weapon or what sword produce for grave goods. The simple sword is made by solid carburizing technology and quenching of heat treatment so it's possibly used as a weapon. In contrast, four swords with ring pommel has little chance of weapon because the blade of swords consists of microstructure that have low hardness and the back of swords don't have microstructure can absorb the shock. The most identical characteristic of the simple sword and swords with ring pommel is that they are possible to classify clearly into practical/non-practical tools. Additionally, according to non-metallic inclusion analysis result of these swords, w$\ddot{u}$stite and glass phase are found together. Thus, it is able to say that reduction method in low temperature is applied during smelting process.

  • All excavated "buried cultural properties" are supervised by the Cultural Heritage Administration that decides whether to conserve them or not, depending on the necessity for conservation. Currently, there is no legal regulation concerning the administration of relics (including artifacts) and remains (including archaeological sites) that are relocated and restored based on such conservation decisions. Thus, administration of these cultural properties is inadequate. Under these circumstances, this paper recommends the current state of conservation and conservation methods for buried cultural properties excavated at Chungcheongnam-do thus far. Conservation of buried cultural properties excavated at Chungcheongnam-do primarily employ the "relocating and restoration" method; 23 relics and 46 remains employed relocation after dismantling and soil layer transcription method. Moreover, 27 remains were relocated after dismantling and 14 remains employed the transcription method. In terms of area, Buyeo-gun and Gongju-si had 12 relics accounting for about 50%, while according to the period, Baekjae period had 16 relics, accounting for about 70%. In terms of conservation facility, open-air facility had 33 relics, accounting for about 72%. Results of investigating the state of relics' management indicated that public institutions like a museum with a recognizable management system had their own work force and consequently ensured excellent conservation, whereas if there were no apparent responsible bodies, remains were subjected to considerable damage due to mismanagement. Therefore, this problem can be resolved by identifying a recognizable management body as well as ensuring periodical management and supervision. The excavated buried cultural properties are utilized not only for academic purposes, but also for PR or as exhibition material. Hence, this study confirms that meticulous management of buried cultural properties is currently required.

  • In order to provide explanations of the practice of the abductive inquiry-based outdoor geological fieldwork education, this study examined the characteristics of students' performance in geological fieldwork before and after the introduction of explicit learning of geologic knowledge and inquiry. To this end, a 21st-class program was developed in the order of pre-evaluation, initial fieldwork, explicit learning of geologic knowledge and inquiry, and post-evaluation and applied to nine middle school students. As research data, outdoor geological fieldwork class recording data and students' activity sheets were collected and analyzed qualitatively. As a result, during the initial fieldwork, students caught clues of low geological importance and used everyday experience and/or general scientific knowledge as a rule when asked to generate hypotheses about the origin of the clues. Also, students evaluated their hypotheses by the scientific accuracy of the rule or their own criterion. Meanwhile, during the final fieldwork, students frequently caught key clues in geologic perspectives and generated geological event hypotheses related to the clues by borrowing geologic knowledge as a rule. Furthermore, students scientifically evaluated their hypotheses based on the consistency of evidence and rules. Combining these results, the effects of learners' geological knowledge and inquiry (abduction) abilities as a path model were presented in order to help students carry out a proficient abductive inquiry in geological fieldwork.
