The airtightness of museum cases in museums was measured by using CO2 tracing gas, but it has been pointed that it has a problem with measuring the airtightness of a museum case which has a hole inside before it is used or while is being used. So studies tried to come up with alternatives which make it possible to measure the airtightness of a museum case before it is used or while it is being used if necessary by indirectly measuring the airtightness of the museum case without changing its form. Indirect measuring is done by measuring the change of Art-sorb weight and the change of temperature and humidity inside the museum case. Experiments were made for 12 days with three builtin wall case installed at the same place without turning on the lights but with Art-sorb and the data logger of temperature and humidity put into museum case. The change rate was produced with the change of temperature and humidity inside the museum case divided by that of those around museum case. As a result, the temperature change rate of museum case A(0.67) was lower than that of museum case B(0.69) or museum case C(0.79). The humidity change rate of museum case A(0.12) was lower than that of museum case B(0.19) or museum case C(0.72) showing that its airtightness was the best. Also in the direct airtightness measurement by CO2 tracing gas, the air exchange rate was compared with the humidity change rate by Art-sorb in the indirect measurement.

The analysis of seven islands in Gogunsan archipelago, Korea with insect fauna and vascular plant flora was carried out based on a field survey conducted in May, July, and September. As a result, a total of 2,817 insect individuals including 264 species and 315 taxa of vascular plant were recorded. Bangchukdo the largest island among the seven islands showed the largest number both insect species and plant taxa. The similarity analysis suggested that the nearness of each island strongly affected the insect fauna and vascular plant flora on each island. In addition, there was significant correlation between the areas of each island and the numbers of insect species (Spearman's correlation coefficient=0.857, P-value=0.014). In the future, the results of this study can be used as data related to island ecology and conservation.
In the course of preparing for the transfer of the Boshin-gak Bell, which was designated as Treasure No. 2, due to the transfer of the National Museum of Korea, the current internal cracks and defects in the founding of the bell were examined in order to verify its solidity through γ-ray penetration via 60Co. The bell's compositions were also examined with x-ray fluorescence spectroscopy. The result showed that the bell had 65.2% cracks when viewed from the horizontal direction and 62.5% cracks when viewed from the vertical direction. The cracks had approximately 5cm depth. In addition, the result of examining the composition of the bell revealed that it was made of 89~92% copper and 7.5~10.5% tin as well as traces of impurities including 0.1~0.3% lead and not more than 0.1% iron, manganese, etc.

The purpose of this study is to review the historical development of British Museum Library and its cataloging rules which really marked the beginning of the modern era of cataloguing. The results of the study can be summarized as follows (1) Sir Anthony Panizzi was the most creative force in the history of the British Museum Library. He devoted himself to the formation of the British Museum Library cataloging policy and the compilation of printed catalogues. Moreover, he laid down the sound acquisitions policy and the vigorous a n.0, pplication of the copyright deposit privilege. He designed a great circular reading room and raised standards of library service and administration. (2) British Museum Library Cataloging Rules : 1. are notable for their pioneering efforts-this was the first major catalogue code-and for their influence on all subsequent codes. 2. introduced the concept of corporate authorship but has never dealt with problem very satisfactory. 3. went to great lengths to avoid title entry. 4. used a number of form heading, example for, ACADEMIES, PERIODICAL PUBLICATION, EPHEMERIDES, CATALOGUES etc.
This paper is to apply an individual travel cost method(TCM) to estimate demand functions for cultural services enjoyed by visiting 3 branches of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art located in the Seoul Metropolitan area. This paper extends the standard TCM by incorporating opportunity costs of leisure time and two different data generating process - 398 respondents from an on-site survey and 600 respondents from a general household survey. Negative binomial models reflecting the non-negative integer nature of visiting frequency with over-dispersed variance were best fitted for demand functions, in which residents of Seoul metropolitan area surveyed from on the site exhibited higher visitation demand for the national art museum. Price elasticity and income elasticity differed by respondents' residency. Price elasticity of long distance visitors (-0.21) was more inelastic from those of Seoul residents (-0.34 ~ -0.5). Moreover, regional residents outside of Seoul area seemed to consider that services from the national art museum is a normal good with income elasticity of 0.5, whereas the Seoul residents seemed to perceive it to be an inferior good with income elasticity of -0.05.

DNA barcoding has been widely used in species identification and biodiversity research. A short fragment of the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) sequence serves as a DNA bio-barcode. We collected DNA barcodes, based on COI sequences from 156 species (529 sequences) of fish, insects, and shellfish. We present results on phylogenetic relationships to assess biodiversity the in the Korean peninsula. Average GC% contents of the 68 fish species (46.9%), the 59 shellfish species (38.0%), and the 29 insect species (33.2%) are reported. Using the Kimura 2 parameter in all possible pairwise comparisons, the average interspecific distances were compared with the average intraspecific distances in fish (3.22 vs. 0.41), insects (2.06 vs. 0.25), and shellfish (3.58 vs. 0.14). Our results confirm that distance-based DNA barcoding provides sufficient information to identify and delineate fish, insect, and shellfish species by means of all possible pairwise comparisons. These results also confirm that the development of an effective molecular barcode identification system is possible. All DNA barcode sequences collected from our study will be useful for the interpretation of species-level identification and community-level patterns in fish, insects, and shellfish in Korea, although at the species level, the rate of correct identification in a diversified environment might be low.
More than 200 objects selected for the newly-opened Kimhae National Museum were treated for conservation. The objects which represent ancient Kaya culture, were mainly composed of metallic such as gilt bronze, silver, copper alloy and iron. The corrosion products on gilt bronze and copper alloy objects were preserved or removed according to their stability. Minimum treatment was done for preserving the original state of the objects. For silver objects and iron objects with silver-plate decorations, silver surfaces were revealed after treatment of corrosion products and treatments to prevent corrosion of silver and iron were done emphatically. For iron objects, which were stabilized, the original shape of objects was restored and acrylic coating was applied to prevent further corrosion. For the objects which were being corroded, 2-step de-chloride treatments were undertaken. The first step was immersing the objects in a solution of 0.3M sodium hydroxide and the second was the pressure de-chloride treatment using borax-distilled water. The main purpose of those treatments was to get rid of the causes of corrosion. Besides, conservation treatments for potteries, making of special mounting board for exhibition and amendment of various modeling were done too.

This study is aimed to offer the elementary school teacher's experience and awareness about science field trip and science museum field trip, by analyzing the survey of 867 students and 81 teachers in Seoul. Research shows 67.9% high figure of elementary school teacher's experience on science field trip. That experience is include 61.8% of science museum using experience. In case of elementary school teacher's pre-activity is only 53.1% and most of them was visiting Website. Post-activity is more than preceding activity(74.1%) but method is too simple like checking work sheets. 62.3% of elementary school students have been to science field trip and science museum that is higher than teachers'. 66.5% of students said science field trip is influence on science study in good ways but there are some difficulties like lack of pre-activity(33.0%) and unkind information about science museum(21.9%). For activation of science field trip, resources development for effective science field trip operating, program development for pre- and post-activity, school group science field trip program development which is linked science curriculum, complement and expand activity information of science field trip institution.

This study was focused on the three-dimensional convergence modeling that can multilaterally analyze internal and external shapes of the Sam-Chongtong Hand Canon by optical precision scanning optimized for acquiring the surface shape and X-ray CT scanning used for obtaining the internal shape. First, the scanning results were converted by compatible extension, after which three-dimensional deviation analysis was conducted to verify mutual conformities. Accordingly, most (56.98%) deviations between the two scanning models was found be ±0.1mm. This result did not influence registration and merging based on the ICP algorithm. The merged data exhibited the external surface color, detailed shapes, internal width, and structure of the hand canon. The three-dimensional model based on optical surface scanning and X-ray CT scanning can be used for traditional technique interpretation as well as digital documentation of cultural heritage. In the future, it will contribute to deliver accessible scientific information of exhibits for visitors.
This study is a scientific analysis of 12 bronze materials which were excavated from Sanoisa temple in Chongju. Analysis of crystalline shape, size and distribution of the each sample metal suggested that they can be classified as tableware(wrought), vessels for memorial service(casting) and bell bronze, which is the same result as classification based on elemental composition. Most of the tableware are forging wares with composition of 8:2:0 in Cu:Sn:Pb, and vessels for memorial service are casting wares whose composition is 7:1:2 in Cu:Sn:Pb, and bell bronze's composition is Cu:Sn:Pb = 85:10:5/9:1:0. The result clearly shows that composition is closely related with usage and manufacturing method of wares. Trace elements such as Co, Fe and As are the elements with high correlation coefficient with Cu, which means they exist as impurities in Cu, and the content of As showed an increase in the order of tableware, memorial service vessels and bell bronze. In addition, the analysis of lead isotope ratio showed that 3 bronze materials with high lead content were made from the lead coming from Japan and China. The composition of the solder was Cu:Sn:Pb = 83:12:5 where small Pb crystals were distributed evenly.
