Nowadays, as traffic jams are a daily elementary problem in both developed and developing countries, systems to monitor, predict, and detect traffic conditions are playing an important role in research fields. Comparing them, researchers have been trying to solve problems by applying many kinds of technologies, especially roadside sensors, which still have some issues, and for that reason, any one particular method by itself could not generate sufficient traffic prediction results. However, these sensors have some issues that are not useful for research. Therefore, it may not be best to use them as stand-alone methods for a traffic prediction system. On that note, this paper mainly focuses on predicting traffic conditions based on a hybrid prediction approach, which stands on accuracy comparison of three prediction models: multinomial logistic regression, decision trees, and support vector machine (SVM) classifiers. This is aimed at selecting the most suitable approach by means of integrating proficiencies from these approaches. It was also experimentally confirmed, with test cases and simulations that showed the performance of this hybrid method is more effective than individual methods.
This paper proposes a statistical regression method for classifying pillars and vehicles in parking area using a single ultrasonic sensor. There are three types of information provided by the ultrasonic sensor: TOF, the peak and the width of a pulse, from which 67 different features are extracted through segmentation and data preprocessing. The classification using the multiple SVM and the multinomial logistic regression are applied to the set of extracted features, and has achieved the accuracy of 85% and 89.67%, respectively, over a set of real-world data. The experimental result proves that the proposed feature extraction and classification scheme is applicable to the object classification using an ultrasonic sensor.

Analysis approaches for single compositional data are well established; however, effective analysis strategies for paired compositional data remain to be investigated. The current project was motivated by studies of age-related hearing loss (presbyacusis), where subjects are classified into four audiometric phenotypes that need to be ranked within these phenotypes based on their paired compositional data. We address this challenge by formulating this problem as a classification problem and integrating a penalized multinomial logistic regression model with compositional data analysis approaches. We utilize Elastic Net for a penalty function, while considering average, absolute difference, and perturbation operators for compositional data. We applied the proposed approach to the presbyacusis study of 532 subjects with probabilities that each ear of a subject belongs to each of four presbyacusis subtypes. We further investigated the ranking of presbyacusis subjects using the proposed approach based on previous literature. The data analysis results indicate that the proposed approach is effective for ranking subjects based on paired compositional data.
Purpose: Although heated tobacco product (HTP) use among adolescents is an emerging public health problem, little is known about the frequency and quantity of HTP use. Thus, we investigated the associations between the frequency and quantity of HTP use and smoking characteristics (i.e., combustible cigarette [CC] and electronic cigarette [EC] use, and attempts to quit smoking) among CC-smoking adolescents. Methods: We analyzed nationally representative data from 2,470 Korean adolescents who were current CC smokers. To investigate our aim, we conducted multinomial logistic and logistic regression analyses. Results: We found that daily and heavier CC users had greater likelihoods of more frequent and heavier HTP use. In addition, dual users of CCs and ECs were more likely to use HTPs more frequently and heavily than CC users who did not use ECs. Moreover, daily EC users had the highest risk of frequent and heavy HTP use. The frequency and quantity of HTP use were not associated with attempts to quit smoking. Compared to CC-only use, dual use of CCs and HTPs was not associated with quitting attempts, and triple use of CCs, ECs, and HTPs was associated with a lower likelihood of quitting attempts. Conclusion: HTP use was less likely to displace CC use and promote attempts to quit smoking. Thus, strict regulations are required to prevent the promotion of HTPs as a substitute for CCs or as a means of quitting smoking. Additionally, health professionals should consider preventive interventions for HTP, as well as CC and EC use among adolescents.
This study provides basic data when planning nutrition support for healthy aging by revealing the relationship between various symptoms in the elderly and nutrient intake. From the 8th National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, data from senior citizens aged 65 years or older in 2021 were used, and answers on the depression prevalence, activity restrictions, complaints of discomfort when chewing, and nutrient intake were analyzed through SPSS multiple logistic regression analysis. In the case of depression, there was a significant effect on the intake of four of the 20 nutrients (water, protein, cholesterol, and vitamin E). When experiencing activity restrictions, the intake of eight of the 20 nutrients (phosphorus, magnesium, vitamin A, vitamin D, beta-carotene, retinol, thiamine, and niacin) was affected. When experiencing chewing discomfort, the intake of three of the 20 nutrients (fat, magnesium, and vitamin E) was affected. Elderly people who suffer from depression, activity restrictions, and discomfort with chewing are at risk of various nutrient deficiencies, and related studies need to be conducted.

Objective: This study aimed to examine the predictors of indoor play behaviors using cluster analyses. Methods: Data from 963 children (age 4 years) who participated in the $5^{th}$ phase of the Panel Study of Korean Children, their parents, and their teachers were analyzed using K-means clustering analyses, F-tests and multinomial logistic regression analyses. Results: The clustering analyses revealed three distinctive profiles: positive-theme oriented, general-exploratory/manipulative, and negative-exploratory/manipulative groups. Child characteristics, including cognition, language, and social level, and teachers' age were significantly associated with the groups in a different way; the clusters were partially different in the gender and creativity of children, interaction level of teachers' interaction, classroom environment, and program types that children attended. Conclusion: Findings revealed three clusters of play behaviors and highlighted the importance of the ecological variables that determined the clusters.
Using data from the 2001 American Housing Survey, the purpose of this study is to profile the economic and socio-demographic characteristics of baby boomers according to housing down payment sources and to identify determinants of housing down payment sources among baby boomers. Results of the multinomial logistic regression analysis indicated that household income, housing value, age, education, gender, marital status, race, and geographic region were all significant determinants of housing down payment sources among baby boomers. Identification of factors affecting the occurrence of borrowing for housing down payment would aid in the development of financial education programs for baby boomer households.
Growth mixture modeling was used to identify types of changes in overt aggression from Grades 4 to 7 among a sample from the Korean Youth Panel Survey. Three discrete patterns were found to adequately explain changes of overt aggression in both boys and girls : Persistent intermediate aggression; Increasing aggression; and Decreasing aggression. Most boys (93%) fell into the Persistent intermediate aggression group and 49% of girls were found to fall into the Increasing aggression group. This suggests that prevention programs should recognize that girls are at risk of increasing aggression in their early adolescence. Multinomial logistic regression analysis shows that self-control, child abuse, peer support, and involvement with deviant peers at Grades 4 were all strongly associated with trajectory class membership. These associations did not differ by gender. These findings suggest that prevention programs should focus on the multiple risk factors of both boys and girls.
The purpose of this study was to explore a typology of time allocation, investigate determinants of time allocation types, and analyze differences in time use satisfaction by the types of time use of the elderly. The data source for this research was the 2009 Time Use Survey conducted by the Korea National Statistical office (KNSO). The 4,699 time diaries (3,552 for weekday, 1,147 for Sunday) completed by the elderly over the age of 60 were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, chi-square, cluster analysis, ANOVA analysis, Duncan test, and multinomial logistic regression analysis. Time allocation of the elderly was classified into four types: personal care oriented, work oriented, leisure oriented, and balanced type. Gender, age, education, employment status, income, and the presence of spouse were identified as determinants for each type. According to the types of time allocation, time use satisfaction was different on week days.
