  • $IP^2$, as an extended concept of the next generation IMT network, is a concept of basically supporting mobility using two steps of IP address (i.e. IPha (IP Host address) and IPra (IP routing address)) in IP backbone network. Current $IP^2$system has a shortcoming of excess usage of network resources caused by sending paging messages to all cells in LA (Location Area) in paging procedure. Considering the evolving direction of network, which is taking mobility with various speed and integration of devices into consideration, this shortcoming must be overcome. In this paper, we proposed a method to reduce time and memory for paging by maintaining current information of MN (Mobile Node) not in Active state with proxy server. Performance evaluation based on NS-2 simulations has shown that the efficiency of network resources is improved in the proposed method.

  • There are some problems of current internet protocols to support the mobility of terminal in wireless environments. The mobile IP has come out to solve these problems, but there exists some problems like triangle routing, the need of each host's home address and the management of tunneling. Also. real-time multimedia traffics require fast hand-off, low latency and the utilization ratio of high bandwidth. SIP can support the mobility of wireless terminal and is widely accepted as the protocol which can support multimedia service and call setup in next generation network. In this paper, the framework of SIP system will be designed and implemented to support the mobility of wireless terminal by using JAIN API which follow the standards of next generation network and this system matches the standards of next generation network.

  • This paper proposes a dominant source-based tree (DSBT) that constructs a localized multicast routing tree for dynamic multicasting without rerouting. To constrain end-to-end delays a multicast tree needs to be reconstructed when a new node joins the group due to additive tree constraint. In DSBT, a multicast group G is expressed by a (DS, NCM) pair, where DS is a dominant source address and NCM is a normalized cost margin. A node wishing to participate in a group selects a path that complies with NCM toward DS such that the end-to-end cost is constrained without any rerouting. Simulation results show that the proposed method performed better in terms of the overall tree cost compared with the Nave algorithm and in terms of the end-to-end delays between any two members compared with the Greedy algorithm.

  • To enhance network efficiency, CCN allow intermediate network nodes between a content consumer and a content publisher to temporarily cache transmitted contents. Then the network nodes immediately return back the cached contents to another consumers when the nodes receives relevant contents request messages from the consumers. For that, CCN utilizes hierarchical content names to forward a request message as well as a response message. However, such content names semantically contain much information about domain/user as well as content itself. So it is possible to invade users' privacy. In this paper, we first review both the problem of CCN name in the view point of privacy and proposed schemes. Then we propose an improved name management scheme for users' privacy preservation.

  • In Home Area Network (HAN) of the smart grid, Power Line Communication (PLC) technology and ZigBee communication technology can be used in the communication among the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) devices. However, according to performance evaluation results of the PLC technology, we find that using the PLC technology is unsuitable for the remote meter reading service. It is worth noting that some parts of the PLC are converted to the ZigBee communication technology in Jeju, Korea. Compared with PLC, ZigBee has no restriction of the place, where the equipments can be freely set up, due to the advantage of radio communication. However, number of usable devices will impact the network performance which is depended on the address assignment. In addition, due to the restriction of transmission range among devices, it is difficult to apply the ZigBee address assignment method to the practical circumstance. In this paper, we examine the previous ZigBee address assignment schemes and the corresponding routing algorithms, and propose a novel address assignment scheme compared with the existing methods, the performance of the proposed one is improved. In particular, evaluation results show that the proposed scheme reduces the average number of hop count, the transfer time and the processing time.

  • Mobility changes the computing environment of computer users rapidly with the broad use of the Internet. In order to support mobility in the Internet infrastructure, IETF standardized Mobile IP With the use of Mobile IP, the Internet users can use the Internet freely without any change in the IP address configuration when they move from their home networks to foreign networks. In this paper, we implement a test bed for evaluation the performance of Mobile IP to use it in the campus network. By evaluating the effect of the use of Mobile IP on the network performance, we expect that the possible side effect of its direct use in the campus network will be reduced.

  • This paper investigates schemes to improve TCP performance in multipath forwarding networks. In multipath routing, packets to the same destination are sent to multiple next-hops in either packet-level or flow-level forwarding mode. Effective bandwidth is increased since we can utilize unused capacity of multiple paths to the destination. In packet-level multipath forwarding networks, TCP performance may not be enhanced due to frequent out-of-order segment arrivals at the receiver because of different delays among paths. To overcome this problem, we propose simple TCP modifications. At the sender, the fast retransmission threshold is adjusted taking the number of paths into consideration. At the receiver, the delayed acknowledgment scheme is modified such that an acknowledgment for an out-of-order segment arrival is delayed in the same way for the in-order one. The number of unnecessary retransmissions and congestion window reductions is diminished, which is verified by extensive simulations. In flow-level multipath forwarding networks, hashing is used at routers to select outgoing link of a packet. Here, we show by simulations that TCP performance is increased in proportion to the number of paths regardless of delay differences.

  • In navigation systems that use collected trajectory for routing, the number and diversity of trajectory data are crucial despite the infeasible limitation which is that all routes should be collected in person. This paper suggests an algorithm combining trajectories only by collected GPS data and generating new routes for solving this problem. Using distance between two trajectories, the algorithm estimates road intersection, in which it also predicts the correlated direction of them with geographical coordinates and makes a decision to combine them by the correlated direction. With combined and generated trajectory data, this combination way allows trajectory-based navigation to guide more and better routes. In our study, this solution has been introduced. However, the ways in which correlated direction is decided and post-process works have been revised to use the sequential pattern of triangles' area GPS information between two trajectories makes in road intersection and intersection among sets comprised of GPS points. This, as a result, reduces unnecessary combinations resulting redundant outputs and enhances the accuracy of estimating correlated direction than before.

  • Many sensor network applications have been developed for smart home, disaster management, and a wide range of other applications. These applications, however, generally assume a fixed base station as well as fixed sensor nodes. Previous research on sensor networks mainly focused on efficient transmission of data from sensors to fixed sink nodes. Recently there has been active research on mobile sink nodes, sink mobility is one of the most comprehensive trends for information gathering in sensor networks, but the research of an environment where both fixed sink nodes and mobile sinks are present at the same time is rather scarce. This paper proposes a scheme for context-aware by ubiquitous devices with the sink functionality added through fixed sinks under a previously-built, cluster-based multi-hop sensor network environment. To this end, clustering of mobile devices were done based on the fixed sinks of a previously-built sensor network, and by using appropriate fixed sinks, context gathering was made possible. By mathematical comparison with TTDD routing protocol, which was proposed for mobile sinks, it was confirmed that performance increases by average 50% in energy with the number of mobile sinks, and with the number of movements by mobile devices.

  • Owing to limited energy in wireless devices power saving is very critical to prolong the lifetime of the networks. In this regard, we designed a cross-layer optimization mechanism based on power control in which source node broadcasts a Route Request Packet (RREQ) containing information such as node id, image size, end to end bit error rate (BER) and residual battery energy to its neighbor nodes to initiate a multimedia session. Each intermediate node appends its remaining battery energy, link gain, node id and average noise power to the RREQ packet. Upon receiving the RREQ packets, the sink node finds node disjoint paths and calculates the optimal power vectors for each disjoint path using cross layer optimization algorithm. Sink based cross-layer maximal minimal residual energy (MMRE) algorithm finds the number of image packets that can be sent on each path and sends the Route Reply Packet (RREP) to the source on each disjoint path which contains the information such as optimal power vector, remaining battery energy vector and number of packets that can be sent on the path by the source. Simulation results indicate that considerable energy saving can be accomplished with the proposed cross layer power control algorithm.
