Effects of Binder Burnout Temperatures on Sintering Shrinkage of Multilayer Ceramics (다층 세라믹스의 소결 수축율에 대한 Binder Burnout 온도의 영향)

  • Change of sintering shrinkage in alumina-based multilayer ceramics was observed in various lamination condi-tions and binder burnout (BBO) temperatures. It was found that the linear shrinkages in X and Y directions were nearly the same with the BBO temperatures but a large shrinkage difference in Z direction was observed. However this phenomenon was diminished when BBO temperature was increased. A linear relationship between the laminated density and the sintering shrinkage was found and the slope was independant on the BBO temperature but dependant on the shrinkage direction.

  • In this study, multilayer piezoelectric ceramics was manufactured using the PMW-PNN-PZT ceramics. Then, their physical characteristics for applicaton of electric power generation were investigated according to the numbers of multilayer. With increasing the numbers of multilayer, effective electromechanical coupling factor($k_{eff}$) and capacitance were decreased and increased, respectively.

  • In this study, m order to develop multilayer ceramics vibrator for ultrasonic nozzle, PMN-PNN-PZT ceramics were fabricated using $Li_2CO_3-Na_2CO_3$ as sintering aids and their piezoelectric and dielectric characteristics were investigated according to the aomunt of PbO. With increasing PbO contents. secondary phases were increased and phase structure were changed from tetragonal structure to rhombohedral structure and also electromechanical coupling factor were linearly decreased. At the composition ceramics with the sintering temperature of $870^{\circ}C$ and 1 mol% excess PbO, density, electromechanical coupling factor, dielectric constant, piezoelectric d constant and mechanical quality factor showed the optimum value of $7.879g/cm^2$, 0.55, 1149, 328pC/N, 1224, respectively for multilayer ceramics vibrator application for ultrasonic nozzle.

Bonding Strength of Conductive Inner-Electrode Layers in Piezoelectric Multilayer Ceramics

  • Multilayer ceramics in which piezoelectric layers of $0.90Pb(Zr_{0.48}Ti_{0.52})O_3-0.05Pb(Mn_{1/3}Sb_{2/3})O_3-0.05Pb(Zn_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3$ (0.90PZT-0.05PMS-0.05PZN) stack alternately with silver electrode layers were prepared by an advanced low-temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) method. The electrical properties and bonding strength of the multilayers were associated with the interface morphologies between the piezoelectric and silver-electrode layers. Usually, the inner silver electrodes are fabricated by sintering silver paste in multi-layer stacks. To improve the interface bonding strength, piezoelectric powders of 0.90PZT-0.05PMS-0.05PZN with an average particle size of $23{\mu}m$ were added to silver paste to form a gradient interface. SEM observation indicated clear interfaces in multilayer ceramics without powder addition. With the increase of piezoelectric powder addition in the silver paste, gradient interfaces were successfully obtained. The multilayer ceramics with gradient interfaces present greater bonding strength as well as excellent piezoelectric properties for 30~40 wt% of added powder. On the other hand, over addition greatly increased the resistance of the inner silver electrodes, leading to a piezoelectric behavior like that of bulk ceramics in multilayers.

Electrical Properties of High Power Step Down Multilayer Piezoelectric Transformer using Low Temperature Sintering PMN-PNN-PZT Ceramics (저온소결 PMN-PNN-PZT 세라믹스를 이용한 고출력 강압용 적층 압전변압기의 전기적 특성)

  • In this study, multilayer piezoelectric transformer was manufactured using the PMN-PNN-PZT ceramic and then the electrical characteristics were investigated according to the variations of frequency and load resistance. The voltage step-up ratio of multilayer piezoelectric transformer showed the maximum value at the vicinity of 75 kHz and increased according to the increase of load resistance. When the output impedance coincided with the load resistance, the multilayer piezoelectric transformer showed the temperature rise of less than $20^{\circ}C$ at the output power of 20 W. As the results, the multilayer piezoelectric transformer manufactured at low co-firing temperature of $940^{\circ}C$ using PMN-PNN-PZT ceramics could be stably driven as the step-down transformers.

  • In the fabrication of alumina-based multilayer ceramics sintering shrinkages with lamination conditions such as lamination pressure temperature and laminating with and without press die were compared. The sintering shrinkage was affected substantially by lamination pressure and temperature and in the case of laminatino without press die the lower laminated density and a large difference in shrinkage with direction were observed. These results can be explained by introducing a new factor which is the ratio of the changes of areas before and after lamination.

  • The characteristics of a multilayer piezoelectric transformer were investigated using 0.05Pb(A $l_{0.5}$N $b_{0.5}$) $O_3$-0.95Pb(Z $r_{0.52}$ $Ti_{0.48}$) $O_3$+0.9wt%N $b_2$ $O_{5}$+0.5wt%Mn $O_2$+0.04wt% $V_2$ $O_{5}$ ceramics. The multilayer piezoelectric trans formers were developed for voltage step-up. The multilayer ceramic technology was applied in piezoelectric transformer. The electrical characteristics of the piezoelectric transformer (33x8.5x1mm) has the efficiency of above 85%, step-up ratio of 70 under the 130 kΩ load, and driving frequency of 93.5kHz, respectively.ctively.y.y.

  • In this study, multilayer piezoelectric transformer were manufactured using the PZN-PMN-PZT ceramic and then the electrical characteristics were investigated. The voltage step-up ratio of multilayer piezoelectric transformer showed the maximum value in the vicinity of 78.16kHz and increased according to the increase of load resistance. When the output impedance coincided with the load resistance, piezoelectric transformer showed the temperature increase of about $20^{\circ}C$ at the output power of 12W. The results, the multilayer transformer manufactured using the low temperature sintered PZN-PMN-PZT ceramics can be stably driven for step-up transformers.

Piezoelectric and Dielectric Characteristics of Low Temperature Sintering PMN-PNN-PZT Ceramics with the amount of WO3 Addition (저온소결 PMN-PNN-PZT 세라믹스의 WO3 첨가에 따른 압전 및 유전특성)

  • In this study, in order to. develop the low temperature sintering ceramics for multilayer piezoelectric actuator, PMN-PNN-PZT ceramics using CuO, $Bi_{2}O_{3}\;and\;Li_{2}CO_{3}$ as sintering aids were manufactured with the amount of $WO_{3}$ addition. The ceramics were sintered at $900,\;930,\;960^{\circ}C$, respectively. Thereafter, their microstructural, dielectric and piezoelectric properties were investigated. The $WO_{3}$ was proved to lower the sintering temperature of piezoelectric ceramics due to the effects of PbO and $WO_{3}$ liquid phase. At 0.3 wt% $WO_{3}$ added specimen sintered at $930^{\circ}C$, electromechanical coupling factor($k_{p}$), mechanical quality factor($Q_{m}$), dielectric constant and $d_{33}$ showed the optimum values as the values of 0.60, 1,402, 1,440 and 360 pC/N, respectively, for multilayer piezoelectric actuator application.
