Perceptions and Efficacy of the Multiculture Among Adolescents (청소년의 다문화 인식과 다문화효능감)

  • This study performed to develop a basic framework of adolescent's perceptions about multicultural families, the children of multicultural families, the impacts of cultural exchange on cultural diversity, and multicultural efficacy. The participants were 368 students from four high schools in the Seoul area. The data were analysyed by ANOVA, Duncan-test, and multiple regression. The results revealed significant differences; perceptions of the multicultural family was the highest among those who believed the perceptions would increase, while the lowest among those believing to decrease. Perceptions of multicultural efficacy showed significant differences in thought about education for understanding other country people, the multi media experiences of multicultural families, knowledge about the multiculture, and thought about an increasing number of multicultural families. There were significant correlations among perceptions about the multicultural family, the children in the multicultural family, the impacts of cultural exchange on cultural diversity, and efficacy of the multicultural environment.

The study of multicultural education for preservice teachers in Gangwon-do who major in mathematics education (강원지역 수학과 예비중등교사의 다문화 교육에 대한 연구)

  • The purpose of this research is to study a perception of multicultural education for preservice teachers who major in mathematics. The research has been done on the data collected from 126 preservice teachers in Gangwon-do who major in mathematics. The data collected include experience of multiculturalism, multicultural efficacy, multicultural understanding and multicultural sensitivity. The data have been analyzed by reliability test, t-test, one-way anova and pearson correlation. Most of preservice teachers who major in mathematics have had no experience of multiple cultures. But they have shown a high perception on multicultural education and a significant positive correlation on their experience of multiculturalism, multicultural efficacy and multicultural sensitivity. Furthermore, the female preservice teachers' multicultural efficacy, multicultural understanding and multicultural sensitivity are much more high than the male preservice teachers'. The difference between different sex has been statistically significant.

The Effects of Elementary School Students' Multicultural Awareness and Multicultural Experience, Parents' Stereotype on Multicultural afficacy in Elementary School Students (초등학생의 다문화 인식과 다문화 경험, 학부모의 고정관념이 초등학생의 다문화 효능감에 미치는 영향)

  • The purposes of the study are to understand how multicultural efficacy is different and to affecting the multicultural efficacy. To achieve the goals, the study conducted surveys to examine an interrelation of multicultural efficacy on 272 elementary school students in Namyangju-si with questionnaires. First, the results showed that multicultural efficacy of elementary school students scored 2.84 on five point scale. Second, the elements that affected multicultural efficacy of elementary school students include 'openness', 'acceptance', 'respect' of elementary school student toward multiculture awareness, at the same time, elementary students' indirect experience of multiculture and direct experience also make significant influence. The study suggests to develop multiculture-related educational programs, in order to enhance multicultural efficacy and multicultural awareness of elementary students.

The Mediating Effect of Emotional Intelligence on the Relationship between Multicultural Perception and Multicultural Efficacy of Nursing University Students (간호대학생의 다문화인식과 다문화효능감의 관계에서 감성지능의 매개효과)

  • This study attempted to provide basic data for developing strategies to improve the multicultural efficacy of nursing university students by identifying the mediating effect of emotional intelligence on the relationship between multicultural perception and multicultural efficacy of nursing university students. The subjects of the study were 179 nursing students at two universities in J province and G city. The SPSS/23.0 program was used to analyze the data with descriptive statistics; an independent t-test, analysis of variance ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and mediating effect analysis were performed using Process Macro 4.0. As a result of the study, nursing students multicultural efficacy was found to be positively correlated with multicultural awareness(r=.596, p<.001) and a positive correlation with emotional intelligence(r=.620, p<.001). Emotional intelligence showed a mediating effect on the relationship between multicultural perception and multicultural efficacy(β=.471, p<.001). Based on the results of this study, it is necessary to development and apply systematic programs to increase multicultural perception and increase emotional intelligence for improving the multicultural efficacy of nursing university students.

The Relationship among Early Childhood Teachers' Perception on the Purpose of Multicultural Education, Multicultural Sensitivity and Multicultural Teaching Efficacy (유아교사의 다문화교육목표 관점 및 다문화감수성과 다문화교수효능감 간의 관계 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the multicultural sensitivity of early childhood teachers, their perception on the purpose of multicultural education and any possible differences in those regards according to their background variables in an effort to determine the influence of the multicultural sensitivity of early childhood teachers and their perception on the purpose of multiculitural education on multicultural sensitivity, as the two variables were closely bound up with multicultural teaching efficacy. The subjects in this study were 283 selected early childhood teachers. The findings of the study were as follows: First, as for perception on the purpose of multicultural education, caring-centered perception was most common among the early childhood teachers, and their scores in multicultural sensitivity were a little above average. Second, there were significant differences among the teachers in multicultural sensitivity and perception on the purpose of multicultural education according to career, age and academic credential. Third, multicultural sensitivity and four perceptions on the purpose of multicultural education had a significant positive correlation with multicultural teaching efficacy. Multicultural sensitivity exerted the largest influence on multicultural teaching efficacy. Among the four perceptions of the purpose of multicultural education, caring-centered perception and social action-centered one turned out to have an impact on the subvariables of multicultural teaching efficacy. This study will provide basic information to prepare some solutions that enforce ealry childhood teachers' mulitucultutral education ability by improving their multicultural teaching efficacy.

Mediating and Moderating Effects of Multicultural Efficacy in the Relationship between Cultural Empathy and Cultural Competence in Child Care Teachers (보육교사의 문화적 공감과 문화적 역량에 대한 다문화 효능감의 매개효과와 조절효과)

  • Purpose: This study examined the mediating and moderating effects of multicultural efficacy in the relationship between cultural empathy and cultural competence in child care teachers. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive survey design was used. The participants were 277 child care teachers at private and public daycare centers in G and S districts of Seoul. The survey instruments included a cultural empathy questionnaire, a multicultural efficacy scale, and a cultural competence scale. Data were analyzed using the SPSS and AMOS programs. For data analysis, descriptive statistics, correlation, and mediating and moderating effect analyses were performed. Bootstrapping was implemented to verify the mediating effect of the model developed herein. Results: Positive correlations among cultural empathy, multicultural efficacy, and cultural competence were noted. Multicultural efficacy showed a significant mediating effect on the relationships between cultural empathy and cultural competence. However, there was no moderating effect. Conclusion: In order to enhance the cultural competence of child care teachers, it is necessary to develop a strategy that can promote their cultural empathy and multicultural efficacy. Furthermore, these results will ultimately enhance the role of child care teachers, thus contributing to the normal growth and development of multicultural children.

The Mediating Effect of Role Ambiguity on the Relationship between Self-efficacy and Job Satisfaction of Visiting Supervisors for Multicultural Families (다문화가족 방문교육지도사의 자기효능감과 직무만족도의 관계에서 역할모호성의 매개효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating effects of role ambiguity on the relationship between self-efficacy and job satisfaction of visiting supervisors for multicultural families. The subjects were 243 visiting supervisors for multicultural families. The data were analyzed with SPSS Win 15.0 using Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, hierarchical multiple regression and path analysis. The findings showed that both self-efficacy and role ambiguity exerted a significant effect on the job satisfaction of visiting supervisors for multicultural families. Further, it is important to note that the effect of self-efficacy on job satisfaction was mediated by role ambiguity. The study discussed implications in terms of job satisfaction of visiting supervisors for multicultural families.

The Relationships between Preschool Teachers' Beliefs about the Purpose of Multicultural Education and Their Attitudes and Teaching Efficacy with Respect to Multicultural Education (유아교육기관 교사의 다문화교육 목표에 대한 관점, 다문화교육에 대한 태도와 다문화 교수효능감과의 관계)

  • This study aims to explore the relationships between preschool teachers' beliefs about the purpose of multicultural education and their attitudes and teaching efficacy with respect to multicultural education. For this purpose, 296 teachers, who were working at kindergartens and daycare centers, were chosen for this study and the survey method was used to collect data. The TMAS (Teacher Multicultural Attitude Survey), Multicultural Teaching Efficacy Scale, and teachers' belief about the purpose of multicultural education were used to evaluate teachers' multicultural-related variables. To analyze the data, frequency measurements, percentile, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson's product moment correlation coefficient were used. Through this study, these findings were found: 1) Teachers most perceive human relations as the purpose of multicultural education. 2) There is no relationship between the belief in multicultural education and the attitudes and teaching efficacy with respect to multicultural education. However, The attitudes about multicultural curriculum show meaningful differences, depending on the teachers' beliefs about the purpose of multicultural education. 3) The attitudes and teaching efficacy with respect to multicultural education are strongly related to each other. These findings are discussed with respect to the necessity of multicultural education curriculum development for preschool teachers.

Effects of a Multicultural Education Program on the Cultural Competence, Empathy and Self-efficacy of Nursing Students (다문화 교육프로그램이 간호대학생의 문화적 역량, 공감 능력, 자기효능감에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: This study was done to examine the effects of a multicultural education program on nursing students' cultural competence, empathy, and self-efficacy. Methods: In this quasi-experimental study, the participants were assigned to an experimental group (n=40) or a control group (n=40). The data were analyzed using independent t-test, Chi-square or Fisher's exact test, and paired t-test with the SPSS windows 18.0 program. Results: After receiving the multicultural education program, the levels of cultural competence and self-efficacy in the experimental group were higher than in the control group. The level of empathy increased slightly in the experimental group while it decreased in the control group. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that multicultural education is effective in raising the level of cultural competence and self-efficacy in nursing students. Thus, there is a need for continuous effort to integrate multicultural education programs in the nursing curriculum. Repeated study to test effects of these multicultural education programs should be also necessary.

The Effects of Daily Life Stress on the Learning Care Style of Multicultural Parents : Focusing on Mediating Effect of Parent Efficacy (융복합 시대에 다문화 부모의 일상생활스트레스가 자녀의 학습 케어 형태에 미치는 영향 : 부모효능감의 매개효과를 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of the daily life stress of the multicultural parents on the learning care style of the child and the mediating effect of the parent efficacy on the process. To this end, we surveyed 960 multicultural parents who responded to MAPS' multicultural youth panel 5th year data for parents. The main results are as follows. First, the daily life stress of multicultural parents did not affect the learning care style of their children. Second, parental efficacy was found to be mediating between daily life stress of multicultural parents and child's learning care style. In other words, the positive role of parental efficacy plays an important role in the child's learning care style by improving the stress-relieving ability of multicultural parents.
