  • The theoretical formulations are derived for calculating optical power change for intensity modulated fiber optical microphone. The optical power change is due to optical paths, misalignment and geometry of optical coupler. Based on the theoretical equations, three different optical couplers are simulated with respect to several angles of optical couplers. In order to evaluate the formulation, a multi-mode to multi-mode coupler which is one of abovementioned optical couplers is designed and characterized by carving out both static experiments and dynamic experiments. Considering experimental results, this paper conclude that the theoretical formulations is very useful for design optical coupler and this kind of fiber optic sensor is adequate to microphone.

  • This paper presents the CDMA system using the RAKE receiver over a multipath fading channel and in multi-user environments. The interference between the propagation paths in a multipath fading causes a serious degradation in the mobile communication environment. In order to derive the path inteference and reduce the fading effect, the RAKE receiver is used. In a computer simulation, the path number of a fading channel and the branch number of the RAKE receiver are modified. As a result, the CDMA system using the RAKE receiver gives a better performance than the conventional CDMA system over a multipath fading channel and in multi-user environments.

  • In this paper, we analyze the performance of UWB(Ultra-WideBand) communication system employing Bi-phase modulation and RAKE Receiver under the MAI(Multiple Access Interference) and the OSI(Other System Interference) environment. Using the multi-path channel model recommended by IEEE P802.15.TG3a, the performance degradation Is described with the number of users, the number of RAKE fingers and training sequences. To meet BER 10e-4 for 20 users at the same time, the number of RAKE fingers are proposed from 3 to 32. And the number of training sequences are limited less than 8 to keep the channel estimation error within 3dB

  • Recently. AGV systems are used to serve the raw material to each work stations automatically. There exists a trade-off between the adequate service supply and the number of purchased AGVs. Also, to reduce the overall production cost, the amount of inventory hold on the shop floor should be considered. In this paper, we present a heuristic technique for determining the number of AGVs which includes the net present fixed costs of each station, each purchased AGV, delivering cost, stock inventory cost, and safety stock inventory cost. Secondly, by using a genetic algorithm, the optimal number of AGVs and the optimal reorder quantity at each station are decided. Lastly, to verify then heuristic algorithm, we have done a computer simulation with different GA parameters.

  • In this paper, active noise barriers for attenuation of road noise are proposed. multi-channel audio systems, DAQ part and high performance DSP H/W were designed. Active noise control firmware programs were implemented for multi-channel off-line/on-line estimation methods for secondary path transfer functions and FIR/IIR filter structure are used main noise control algorithms. To evaluate performance of proposed systems, the experiments were performed in an active noise barrier test bed for various noise cases.

  • Content distribution technology, which routes content to the cache servers, is considered as an effective method to reduce the response time of the user requests. However, due to the exponential increases of content traffic, traditional content routing methods suffer from high delay and consequent inefficient delivery. In this paper, a content selection policy is proposed, which combines the histories of cache hit and cache hit rate to collaboratively determine the content popularity. Specifically, the CGM policy promotes the probability of possible superior paths considering the storage cost and transmission cost of content network. Then, the content routing table is updated with the proportion of the distribution on the paths. Extensive simulation results show that our proposed scheme improves the content routing and outperforms existing routing schemes in terms of Internet traffic and access latency.

  • In this paper, we propose a Sequency domain based BPM-UWB receiver compensating for distortion in the multi-path channel. We give a mathematical derivation for the proposed receiver which exploits a matched filter theory for optimum reception. We also analyze the system performance and present the simulation results that show the performance enhancement of the proposed system.

  • A spatio-temporal searcher structure for 3rd generation W-CDMA systems is proposed to enhance the detection capability of the multi-path searcher for the desired signal. This searcher employs the spatio-temporal signal structure to search for newly emerging multipath signals. The proposed multi-path searcher provides better detection capability andthus reduces the mean acquisition time. The detection and false alarm probabilities of new and conventional schemes are calculated and numerical examples of mean acquisition time are given thereafter.

  • This study deals with a type of vehicle routing problem faced by manager of some department stores during peak sales periods. The problem is to find a set of traveling paths of vehicles that leave a department store and arrive at a destination specified for each vehicle after visiting customers without violating time and capacity constraints. The mathematical model is formulated with the objective of maximizing the sum of the rewards collected by each vehicle. Since the problem is known to be NP-hard, a heuristic algorithm is developed to find the solution. The performance of the algorithm is compared with the optimum solutions obtained from CPLEX for small size problems and a priority-based Genetic Algorithm for large size problems.

  • In this study, we conducted a comparative study on user's perception and behavior on public system service (PSS) using institutionalism theory and MGA (multi-group analysis) methodology. In particular, this study focuses on how institutional isomorphism is applied to public system services and how MGA can be implemented correctly in a variance based SEM (structural equation model) such as PLS (partial least square). A data set of 496 effective responses was collected from pubic system users and an empirical research was conducted using three segmented models categorized by public proximity theory (public firms = 113, government contractors = 210, private contractors = 173). For rigorous group comparisons, each model was estimated by the same indicators and approaches. PLS-SEM was used in testing research hypotheses, followed by parametric and non-parametric PLS-MGA procedures in testing categorical moderation effects. This study applied novel procedures for testing composite measurement invariance prior to multi-group comparisons. The following main results and implications are drawn : 1) Partial measurement invariance was established. Multi-group analysis can be done by decomposed models although data can not be pooled for one integrated model. 2) Multi-group analysis using various approaches showed that proximity to public sphere moderated some hypothesized paths from quality dimensions to user satisfaction, which means that categorical moderating effects were partially supported. 3) Careful attention should be given to the selection of statistical test methods and the interpretation of the results of multi-group analysis, taking into account the different outcomes of the PLS-MGA test methods and the low statistical power of the moderating effect. It is necessary to use various methods such as comparing the difference in the path coefficient significance and the significance of the path coefficient difference between the groups. 4) Substantial differences in the perceptions and behaviors of PSS users existed according to proximity to public sphere, including the significance of path coefficients, mediation and categorical moderation effects. 5) The paper also provides detailed analysis and implication from a new institutional perspective. This study using a novel and appropriate methodology for performing group comparisons would be useful for researchers interested in comparative studies employing institutionalism theory and PLS-SEM multi-group analysis technique.
