  • Various geological thematic maps have been generated by interpolating sparsely sampled ground survey data and geostatistical kriging that can consider spatial correlation between neighboring data has widely been used. This paper applies multi-variate geostatistical algorithms to integrate secondary information with sparsely sampled ground survey data for geological thematic mapping. Simple kriging with local means and kriging with an external drift are applied among several multi-variate geostatistical algorithms. Two case studies for spatial mapping of groundwater level and grain size have been carried out to illustrate the effectiveness of multi-variate geostatistical algorithms. A digital elevation model and IKONOS remote sensing imagery were used as secondary information in two case studies. Two multi-variate geostatistical algorithms, which can account for both spatial correlation of neighboring data and secondary data, showed smaller prediction errors and more local variations than those of ordinary kriging and linear regression. The benefit of applying the multi-variate geostatistical algorithms, however, depends on sampling density, magnitudes of correlation between primary and secondary data, and spatial correlation of primary data. As a result, the experiment for spatial mapping of grain size in which the effects of those factors were dominant showed that the effect of using the secondary data was relatively small than the experiment for spatial mapping of groundwater level.

  • Simple correlation analysis, factor analysis, and multi-variate analysis have been performed to analyze the relationship between air pollution and meteorological factors for air pollution and meteorological data measured at Kwanghwamun in Seoul during the period of one year(January 1990 $\sim$ December 1990). As a result of simple correlation and factor analysis, $SO_2$, TSP and CO concentrations have shown high negative correlation with temperature and among these indicating that these are related with pollutant emission trend based upon heating fuel usage. Ozone has a good corrleation with solar radiation and relative humidity to have a closed relation with $O_3$ generation reaction mechanism. The result of multi-variate correlation analysis shows that the concentration of $SO_2$ and CO are adequate for correlation model with ambient temperature and wind speed and $O_3$ concentrations are adequate for that with solar radiation and wind speed. $SO_2$ and CO levels are considered to be affected first of all by heating fuel usage as a emssion source and wind speed as a dispersion effect. The $SO_2$ concentration in the condition that the temperature fall below zero is explained by multilicative model with wind speed, only one variable.

  • This study examined the relationships between multiple intelligences as cognitive factors and affective factors of learning motivation and academic self-concept. The data were collected from 276 4th grade elementary school students and analyzed by correlation, multi-variate analysis, and step-wise multiple regression. Results were that (1) multiple intelligences, learning motivation, and academic self-concept had statistically significant correlations among themselves. Multi-variate analysis showed that intra-personal intelligence explained 58.6% of the linear combination of learning motivation and academic self-concept. (2) Intra-personal intelligence explained 29% to 58% of learning motivation and its sub-factors of achievement motivation, internal locus of control, self-efficacy, and self-regulation. (3) Intra-personal intelligence, logical-mathematical intelligence, musical intelligence, and inter-personal intelligence were explanatory variables for academic self-concept and its sub-factors.

  • Through this research of the analysis on the frequency flood discharges regarding basin property factors, a linear regression system was introduced, and as a result, the item with the highest correlation with the frequency flood discharges from Nakdong river basin is the basin area, and the second highest is the average width of basin and the river length. The following results were obtained after looking at the multi correlation between the flood discharge and the collected basin property factors using the data from the established river maintenance master plan of the one hundred twenty-five rivers in the Nakdong river basin. The result of analysis on multivariate correlation between the flood discharges and the most basic data in determining the flood discharges as basin area, river length, basin slope, river slope, average width of basin, shape factor and probability precipitation showed more than 0.9 of correlation in terms of the multi correlation coefficient and more than 0.85 for the determination coefficient. The model which induced a regression system through multi correlation analysis using basin property factors is concluded to be a good reference in estimating the design flood discharge of unmeasured basin.

  • The purpose of this paper is to represent values of acoustic cues for Korean oral stops in the multi-dimensional space, and to attempt to find possible relationships among acoustic cues through correlation analyses. The acoustic cues used for differentiation of 3 types of Korean stops are closure duration, voice onset time and fundamental frequency of a vowel after a stop. The values of these cues are plotted in the two and three dimensional space to see what the critical cues are for separation of different types of stops. Correlation coefficient analyses show that multi-variate approach to statistical analysis is legitimate, and that there are statistically significant relationships among acoustic cues but Oey are not strong enough to make the conjecture that there is a possible relationship among the articulatory or laryngeal mechanisms employed by the acoustic cues.

  • Purpose: This study is a descriptive survey which attempts to understand family strength, parenting attitude, and the ego-identity perceived by female high school students and identify the factors influencing ego-identity of the students. Methods: Data collection was carried out through a questionnaire survey of 186 female high school students. The collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test. ANOVA, correlation analysis, and multi-variate regression analysis while using SPSS 23.0 program. Results: Family strength and the ego-identity perceived by female high school students were at a mid-level, with an average of 207.76 and 149.72 points, respectively. Parenting attitude showed scores higher than the mid-level, recording 90.36 points in average. As a result of analyzing the correlation between the factors, the higher family strength and the ego-identity of female high school students were, the better were the patenting attitudes of perceived parents. Besides, family health, parenting attitude, and family form (nuclear family) were found to be the factors influencing ego-identity formation of female high school students with the explanatory power being 25.5% in total. Conclusion: Developing intervention programs which take into account family strength is considered necessary to help the youth form positive ego- identity.

  • This paper presents applications of proper orthogonal decomposition in both the time and frequency domains based on both cross spectral matrix and covariance matrix branches to analyze multi-variate unsteady pressure fields on prisms and to study spanwise and chordwise pressure distribution. Furthermore, modification of proper orthogonal decomposition is applied to a rectangular spanwise coherence matrix in order to investigate the spanwise correlation and coherence of the unsteady pressure fields. The unsteady pressure fields have been directly measured in wind tunnel tests on some typical prisms with slenderness ratios B/D=1, B/D=1 with a splitter plate in the wake, and B/D=5. Significance and contribution of the first covariance mode associated with the first principal coordinates as well as those of the first spectral eigenvalue and associated spectral mode are clarified by synthesis of the unsteady pressure fields and identification of intrinsic events inside the unsteady pressure fields. Spanwise coherence of the unsteady pressure fields has been mapped the first time ever for better understanding of their intrinsic characteristics.

  • Purpose This study intended to introduce new approaches to identify the intellectual structure of supply chain management(SCM) researches, which combines author co-citation analysis(ACA) and social network analysis(SNA). Design/methodology/approach We searched RISS(www.riss.kr) and NDSL(www.ndsl.or.kr) database and collected 292 academic papers on supply chain management between 2001 and 2011. Among 9,637 references of these papers, we analyzed 1,848 references that were published by domestic authors. We produced a correlation matrix of 32 author co-citation matrix and conducted multi-variate statistical analysis such as factor analysis. We also performed social network analysis to identify the main researchers in SCM. Findings We found four main sub-areas of supply chain management research: SCM adoption factors, logistics, SCM performance, and SCM structure. We could present the authors who played important roles within the network by using SNA indicators. The finding of this research also suggests more collaborations among domestic researchers are required to overcome the low co-citation rates among domestic authors.
