Studies have been made for the wireless sensor network protocols by a number of researchers to date. In particular, the studies as to the hierarchical protocol LEACH algorithm was concentrated. Various studies have been derived for the performance of the protocol is based on the LEACH protocol have been made. Improved algorithms have been proposed continuously. On the other hand, The performance comparison and evaluation of the improved algorithm is insufficient. Therefore, we compared the performance for the ML-LEACH (Multi Hop-Layered) and DL-LEACH (Dual Hop-Layered) been derived mainly LEACH. scalability, energy consumption, CH elected, network lifetime were selected as a Performance evaluation items.

Clustering schemes have been adopted as an efficient solution to prolong network lifetime and improve network scalability. In such clustering schemes cluster ratio is represented by the rate of the number of cluster heads and the number of total nodes, and affects the performance of clustering schemes. In this paper, we mathematically analyze an optimal clustering ratio in wireless sensor networks. We consider a multi-hop to one-hop transmission case and aim to provide the optimal cluster ratio to minimize the system hop-count and maximize packet reception ratio between nodes. We examine its performance through a set of simulations. The simulation results show that the proposed optimal cluster ratio effectively reduce transmission count and enhance energy efficiency in wireless sensor networks.

In this paper, we present a multi-chain based hierarchical topology control algorithm (MCHTC) for wireless sensor networks. In this algorithm, the topology control process using static clustering is divided into sensing layer that is composed by sensor nodes and multi-hop data forwarding layer that is composed by leader nodes. The communication cost and residual energy of nodes are considered to organize nodes into a chain in each cluster, and leader nodes form a tree topology. Leader nodes are elected based on the residual energy and distance between themselves and the base station. Analysis and simulation results show that MCHTC outperforms LEACH, PEGASIS and IEEPB in terms of network lifetime, energy consumption and network energy balance.
In this paper, we study the advantages of using range extension cooperative transmission (CT) in multi-hop energy harvesting wireless sensor networks (EH-WSNs) from the network layer perspective. EH-WSNs rely on harvested energy, and therefore, if a required service is energy-intensive, the network may not be able to support the service successfully. We show that CT networks that utilize both range extension CT and non-CT routing can successfully support services that cannot be supported by non-CT networks. For a two-hop toy network, we show that range extension CT can provide better services than non-CT. Then, we provide a method of determining the supportable services that can be achieved by using optimal non-CT and CT routing protocols for EH-WSNs. Using our method and network simulations, we justify our claim that CT networks can provide better services than nonCT networks in EH-WSNs.

The energy efficiency is a key design issue to improve the lifetime of the underwater sensor networks (UWSN) consisting of sensor nodes equipped with a small battery of limited energy resource. In this paper, we apply a hexagon tessellation with an ideal cell size to deploy the underwater sensor nodes for two-dimensional UWSN. Upon this setting, we propose an enhanced hybrid transmission method that forwards data packets in a mixed transmission way based on location dependent direct transmitting or uniform multi-hop forwarding. In order to select direct transmitting or uniform multi-hop forwarding, the proposed method applies the threshold annulus that is defined as the distance between the cluster head node and the base station (BS). Our simulation results show that the proposed method enhances the energy efficiency compared with the existing multi-hop forwarding methods and hybrid transmission methods

This paper proposes to increase the node energy effienciecy, which rapidly drops during the transmission of LEACH (Low Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierachy), using the method of DL-LEACH (Dual-hop Layered LEACH). By introducing dual-hop method in the data transmission, the proposed single-hop method for short-range transmission and multi-hop transmission method between the cluster heads for remote transmission was introduce. By introducing a partial multi-hop method in the data transmission, a single-hop method for short range transmission method between the cluster heads for remote transmission was introduces. In the proposed DL-LEACH, the energy consumption of cluster head for remote transmission reduces and increases the energy efficiency of sensor node by reducing the transmission distance and simplifying the transmission routine for short-range transmission. As compared the general LEACH, it was adapted to a wider sensor field.
Recently, lot of researches for the multi-level protocol have been done to balance the sensor node energy consumption of WSN and improve the node efficiency to extend the life of the entire network. Especially in multi-hop protocol, a variety of models have been proposed to improve energy efficiency and apply it to WSN protocol. In this paper, we analyze LEACH algorithm and propose new method based on center of local clustering routing algorithm in wireless sensor networks. We also perform NS-2 simulation to show the performance of our model.

In many wireless sensor network (WSN) applications, the information transmitted by an individual entity or node is of limited use without the knowledge of its location. Research in node localization is mostly geared towards multi-hop range-free localization algorithms to achieve accuracy by minimizing localization errors between the node's actual and estimated position. The existing localization algorithms are focused on improving localization accuracy without considering efficiency in terms of energy costs and algorithm convergence time. In this work, we show that our proposed localization scheme, called DV-maxHop, can achieve good accuracy and efficiency. We formulate the multi-objective optimization functions to minimize localization errors as well as the number of transmission during localization phase. We evaluate the performance of our scheme using extensive simulation on several anisotropic and isotropic topologies. Our scheme can achieve dual objective of accuracy and efficiency for various scenarios. Furthermore, the recently proposed algorithms require random uniform distribution of anchors. We also utilized our proposed scheme to compare and study some practical anchor distribution schemes.

Energy conservation is a vital issue in wireless sensor networks. Recently, employing mobile sinks for data gathering become a pervasive trend to deal with this problem. The sink can follow stochastic or pre-defined paths; however the controlled mobility pattern nowadays is taken more into consideration. In this method, the sink moves across the network autonomously and changes its position based on the energy factors. Although the sink mobility would reduce nodes' energy consumption and enhance the network lifetime, the overhead caused by topological changes could waste unnecessary power through the sensor field. In this paper, we proposed EEDARS, an energy-efficient dual-sink algorithm with role switching mechanism which utilizes both static and mobile sinks. The static sink is engaged to avoid any periodic flooding for sink localization, while the mobile sink adaptively moves towards the event region for data collection. Furthermore, a role switching mechanism is applied to the protocol in order to send the nearest sink to the recent event area, hence shorten the path. This algorithm could be employed in event-driven and multi-hop scenarios. Analytical model and extensive simulation results for EEDARS demonstrate a significant improvement on the network metrics especially the lifetime, the load and the end-to-end delay.

In wireless sensor networks(WSNs), the studies that support sink mobility without global position information exploit a Backbone-based Virtual Infrastructure (BVI) which considers one-hop clusters and a backbone-based tree. Since the clusters of a sink and a source node are connected via flooding into the infrastructure, it causes high routing cost. Although the network could reduce the number of clusters via multi-level clusters, if the source nodes exist at nearest clusters from the cluster attached by the sink and they are in different branches of the tree, the data should be delivered via detour paths on the tree. Therefore, to reduce the number of clusters, we propose a novel multi-hop cluster based communication protocol supporting sink mobility without global position information. We exploit a rendezvous cluster head for sink location service and data dissemination but the proposed protocol effectively reduces data detour via comparing cluster hops from the source. Simulation shows that the proposed protocol is superior to the existing protocols in terms of the data delivery hop counts.
