  • In this paper, we propose a resource allocation scheme that guarantees transmission rate for each mobile stations by mitigating interference between a base station-to-mobile station link and a relay station-to-mobile station link. Specifically, we dynamically adjust the boundary between access zone and relay zone using signal to interference plus noise ratio. Moreover, we cluster the mobile stations under sever interference and manage the channel quality of these mobile stations by allocating additional radio resource. Our simulation results show that the proposed scheme can improve the efficiency of radio resources and ensure fairness among mobile stations.

  • In this paper, the effect of ISI(Inter-Symbol Interference) and ICI(Inter-Carrier Interference) due to time difference of arrival on OFDMA-based mobile multi-hop relay (MMR) systems is analyzed. Analyses are performed for the ISI caused by the previous OFDMA symbol transmitted from neighboring macro or relay cell as well as the ISI caused by the next OFDMA symbol transmitted from neighboring macro or relay cell. Then, an effective SINR(Signal to Interference plus Noise Ratio) estimation method and a path selection method considering time difference of arrival are proposed to minimize the effect of ISI and ICI. It is shown by simulation that the performance degradation caused by time difference of arrival can be significantly mitigated when the proposed path selection method is applied to the uplink of OFDMA-based MMR systems.

  • Handover is needed in multi-hop relay systems to support mobility. The main purpose of handover is to provide the continuous connection when a MS migrates from the air-interface of one BS to another air-interface provided by another BS. Especially the handover between different systems is essential to next generation network. Vertical Handover technology in Mobile WiMAX MMR system is very useful for operators to introduce to Mobile WiMAX system in an overlaid cell environment. This technology will be applied to technology which hands MRS(Mobile Relay Station) over to different systems for system performance enhancement in Ubiquitous environment overlaid between Micro ce11(Frequency 1,FA1) and Macro cell(Frequency 2,FA2). In this paper, FA1 and FA2 are used in order to perform Vertical Handover of MRS(Mobile Relay Station) according to suggested conditions. interferences from neighboring BS or other sectors of 6 macro cells surrounding center Macro cell are analyzed and throughputs are measured according to suggested conditions.

  • The Wireless Mesh Network uses a wireless communication technology with transmission rates similar to that of a cable, which is used as a backbone network. The topology structure is in a Mesh form which resembles an Ad-hoc network, however a metric is needed in order to set the channel and channel methods since the operation intentions and interior motions are different. This thesis proposes a metric(ETR : Expected Transmission Rate) that sets the channel with physical link performance and multi hop transmission capabilities. This metric will also be based on multi channel creation methods and Hop-by-hop routing techniques for an effective multi hop transmission with no loops.

  • In this paper, we investigate decode-and-forward (DF) relaying systems with a direct link between the source and the destination node. The objective of this paper is to determine the better relaying strategy between 3-hop DF relaying and dual-hop DF relaying with the best relay selection. Assuming Rayleigh fading channels, we present closed-form outage probability of the 3-hop relaying and the dual-hop relaying, respectively, and compare the performances by numerical investigation. Numerical results show that if the channel is poor, the outage performance of the 3-hop relaying is better than the dual-hop relaying.

  • In this paper, we propose antenna and relay selection system by considering channel environment between nodes. Each node has multiple antennas in each hop. And, we analyze the performance of proposed system. A General MIMO system receives signals through multiple channels and obtains diversity gain. But MIMO system causes performance degradation due to poor received signals. The proposed system consider transmitters-relays channels, relays-receivers channels and select a best channel. This channel selection prevents performance degradation and increase total system's performance. Therefore, we must select best antennas and a best relay, simultaneously.

  • There have been lots of researches on the optimal relay selection in relay-based systems. However, most researches have been focused on the maximization of transmission capacity with a constraint of sum power at both transmitter and relays. In Ad-hoc networks where relays have batteries of limited power, it is imperative to minimize the energy consumption while maintaining the required quality-of-service (QoS). In this paper, we propose an optimal relay selection strategy to minimize the relay power consumption while satisfying the required signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Through intensive simulations, we show the proposed method is more effective in terms of energy consumption and guarantee lower transmission failure probability in multi-hop Ad-hoc environments.

  • This paper proposes a mechanism to increase performance using cooperative communications in IEEE 802.11 environment. Existing algorithms use one relay between a source and a destination, which is a 2 hop relay. The proposed algorithm utilizes more than one relay to complement inefficiency of using one relay. In the proposed mechanism, an AP manages network information (rate), which is used to select relays of a source by the AP. The AP notifies the selected relays to the source and neighbor nodes, and the source transmits data to the relays for cooperative communications. Moreover, relays are given to have an opportunity to send its own data right after relaying the source's data. So relays are compensated for the power to send the source's data and overall throughput is improved.

  • In this paper, we propose a decision scheme of amount of required resources in wireless multi-hop systems which can reuse radio resources adaptively among relay stations (RSs). Base stations (BSs) can allocate resources dynamically based on amount of required resources of each RS. Moreover using resource reuse with this allocation method can increase amount of available resources in multi-hop systems. Generally, BSs allocate same amount of resources for RSs which share and reuses same resources for each other. Since amount of required resources are different among these RSs, a decision scheme of a specific value which can represent various required resources of RSs is needed. We propose this scheme which can decide the representative value of required resources of RSs adaptively based on the amount of required resources and the buffer state of each RS. Our simulation results show that the proposed scheme can increase performance of a multi-hop system. System capacity with the proposed adaptive scheme is increased by twice as large as one with a fixed representation value.

  • This paper provides a unified framework for the joint optimal subchannel and power allocation in multi-hop relay network, where each node in the network has multiple parallel subchannels such as in OFDM or MIMO system. When there are multiple parallel subchannels between nodes, the relay node decides how to match the subchannel at the first hop with the one at the second hop aside from determining the power allocation. Joint optimal design of subchannel matching and power allocation is, in general, known to be very difficult to solve due to the combinatorial nature involved in subchannel matching. Despite this difficulty, we use a simple rearrangement inequality and show that seemingly difficult problems can be efficiently solved. This includes several existing solution methods as special cases. We also provide various design examples to show the effectiveness of the proposed framework.
