  • In this study a multi-objective optimization problem is solved. The objectives used here include simultaneous minimum construction cost in term of sections weight, minimum structural damage using a damage index, and minimum non-structural damage in term of inter-story drift under the applied ground motions. A high-speed and low-error neural network is trained and employed in the process of optimization to estimate the results of non-linear time history analysis. This approach can be utilized for all steel or concrete frame structures. In this study, the optimal design of a planar eccentric braced steel frame is performed with great detail, using the presented multi-objective algorithm with a discrete population and then a moment resisting frame is solved as a supplementary example.

  • The reinforced-concrete multi-story shear-wall structure, which can free a building from beams and columns to allow the planning of a vast room, has increasingly been used in Japan as a high-rise reinforced-concrete structure. Since this structural system concentrates the seismic force onto multi-story shear walls inside, the bending deformation of the walls may cause excessive deformation on the upper floors during an earthquake. However, it is possible to control the bending deformation to within a certain level by setting high-strength and rigid beams (outriggers) at the top of the multi-story shear walls; these outriggers restrain the bending behavior of the walls. Moreover, it is possible to achieve high energy dissipation by placing vibration control devices on the outriggers and thus restrain the bending behavior. This paper outlines the earthquake response analysis of a high-rise residential tower to demonstrate the effectiveness of the outrigger frame incorporating vibration control devices.

  • Group key agreement protocols derive a shared secret key for a group of users to ensure data confidentiality or/and integrity among the users in the subsequent communications. In this paper, we inspect two group key agreement schemes which have been proposed by Shi et al. and Zheng et al. in 2005 and 2007 respectively. Although both schemes were claimed to be secure in a heuristic way, we reveal several flaws using the Bellare-Rogaway security model extended to multi-party setting by Bresson et al. These flaws are found to be originated from inappropriate selection of key derivation function, inadvertent exclusion of partners' identities from the protocol specification and insufficient consideration in preserving known temporary information security and key freshness properties. Furthermore, we suggest and discuss proper countermeasures to address such flaws.

  • In this study, 3 cooling systems of apartment which are air-cooled air conditioner with indoor unit, water-cooled air conditioner with indoor unit and small capacity absorption chiller-heater with FCU have been evaluated by Multi-Criteria Decision Making Analysis. Weights of 7 selected factors which are economics, space, billing, constructability, human comfort, visibility and reliability are determined by expert group of 30 system designers and 30 construction engineers. Final weights were derived for 101 and 166 $m^2$ apartments. Analysis shows that small capacity absorption chiller-heater with FCU is the most favorable system for apartment cooling system.

  • The aim of this study is to fabricate an ultra-fine pure rhodium wire using multi-pass wire drawing process. To manufacture $30{\mu}m$ ultra-fine rhodium wire from the initial $50{\mu}m$ wire, a multi-pass wire drawing process was designed based on the uniform reduction ratio theory. The elastic-plastic finite element analysis was then conducted to validate the efficacy of the designed process. The drawing load, drawing stress, and the distribution of the effective strain were evaluated using the finite element analysis. Finally, the wire drawing experiment was performed to validate the designed wire drawing process. From the results of the experiment, the diameter of the final drawn wire was found to be $29.85{\mu}m$.

  • Recently a new multi-attribute analysis method is one of the evident areas of important points in the decision support system analysis. The area of decision support system may be broken into three primary area: idea generation, multi-attribute structured analysis method, and the integration of the results of analysis. This research developed an internet/intranet-based solution builder for a three-step decision support system in the view of 1) brainstorming for the idea generation, 2) analytic hierarchy process as a multi-attribute structured analysis method and 3) aggregating logic model to integrate the results of individual analysis. A computer program is developed and demonstrated in internet/intranet-based decision problem. This solution builder provides decision makers a good tool for remote group decision making.

  • Many Applications of scientific research have coupled with functional data signal clustering techniques to discover novel characteristics that can be used for the diagnoses of several issues. In this article we present an interpretable multi-scale cluster hierarchy framework for clustering functional data using its multi-aspect frequency information. The suggested method focuses on how to effectively select transformed features/variables in unsupervised manner so that finally reduce the data dimension and achieve the multi-purposed clustering. Specially, we apply our suggested method to mutual fund returns and make superior-performing funds group based on different aspects such as global patterns, seasonal variations, levels of noise, and their combinations. To promise our method producing a quality cluster hierarchy, we give some empirical results under the simulation study and a set of real life data. This research will contribute to financial market analysis and flexibly fit to other research fields with clustering purposes.

  • The multi-group diffusion theory is applied to the analysis of the currently constructing Kori reactor core which is to be refuelled by 3-region fuel loading pattern and also to the comparative study on a conceptually designed 5-region reactor core, under the condition that, apart from the thermal-hydraulic considerations, all the input data referred to here in are assumed to be identical for both cases. The numerical calculation is carried out for quantitative analysis of the characteristics of the two fuel loading patterns in details, and the calculated results show that, so far as the nuclear aspects are concerned, the characteristics of the 5-region reactor core are proved to be superior to those of Kori's 3-region reactor core in general.

  • A new method using a transfer function is introduced in the present paper for analyzing the motion errors of hydrostatic bearing tables. The relationship between film reaction force in a single-side hydrostatic pad and the form error of guide rail is derived at various spatial frequencies by finite element analysis, and it is expressed as a transfer function. This transfer function clarifies so called 'the averaging effect of an oil film' quantitively. It is found that the amplitude of film force is reduced as the spatial frequency increases or the relative width of the pocket is reduced. The motion errors of a multi pad type table are estimated using a transfer function, the form errors of a guide rail and the geometric relationship between the pads. The method is named as the Transfer Function Method (TFM). The motion errors calculated by the TFM show good agreement with the motion errors calculated by the Multi Pad Method considering the entire table as an analysis object. From the results, it is confirmed that the proposed TFM is very effective to analyze the motion errors of hydrostatic tables.
