  • The chevron rubber spring is used for subway vehicle as a primary suspension. Generally, the primary suspension has an influence to the running performance and not so much effect on the ride comfort in railway vehicle. But the stiffness of chevron spring is harder and harder as time goes on because of rubber characteristics. Therefore the dynamic characteristics such as ride comfort and derailment coefficient should be reviewed according to the stiffness variation of chevron rubber spring. In this paper the effect of chevron rubber spring on dynamic characteristics was studied by considering multi-body dynamics of railway vehicle on one straight line and seven curved lines.

  • A vehicle driving simulator is a virtual reality device which makes a human being feel as if the one drives a vehicle actually. The driving simulator is effectively used for studying interaction of a driver-vehicle and developing the vehicle system of new concepts. The driving simulator consists of a motion platform, a motion controller, a visual and audio system, a vehicle dynamic analysis system, a vehicle operation system and etc. The vehicle dynamic analysis system supervises overall operation of the simulator and also simulates dynamic motion of a multi-body vehicle model in real-time. In this paper, the main procedures to develop the driving simulator are classified by 4 parts.   • This paper is concerned with computer simulations of a biped robot walking in static and dynamic gaits. To this end, a three-dimensional robot is considered possessing a torso and two identical legs of a typical design. For such limbs, a set of inverse kinematic solutions is analytically derived between the torso and the feet. Specific walking patterns are off-line generated meeting stability based on the VPCG or ZMP condition. Subsequently, to verify whether the robot can walk as planned in the presence of mass and ground effects, a multi-body dynamics CAE code has been applied to the resulting joint motions determined by inverse kinematics. As a result, the key parameters to successful gaits could be identified including inherent characteristics as well. Upon comparisons between the two types of gaits, dynamic gaits are concluded more desirable for larger humaniods.

  • Development of color printer, postal classification machine, ATM and so on requires higher moving performance of the flat belt. Skew of the flat belt running over misaligned roller has a bad effect on performances of media transport. The vibration of loose side of belt causes the escape of the belt from roller and the drop of velocity of driven roller after the start of driving roller revolution. The skew of flat belt is investigated by FEM and dynamic simulation. FEM results show parameters which affect the skew of belt and match with dynamic results qualitatively. The shape of loose side of belt can be found by dynamic simulation. Increase of the acceleration time and initial tension have diminished the unstable movement of the loose side of belt.

  • This paper introduces a Web-based vibration analysis system for rotary-type refrigerator compressors. Concern for vibration reduction in compressors has been growing for many years. What is important in vibration reduction is to easily predict the vibration without using a physical compressor. The dynamic model of the compressor is represented as a multi-body dynamic system. Solving the dynamic model is run on a high-performance server. The interfaces of the system are accessible via Web browsers, such as Netscape or Explorer. Anyone who wants to analyze the vibration of the rotary compressor or share the results data can access the system over the Internet regardless of their OS, platform, or location.

  • Tires, bushings and stabilizers are the most difficult elements in vehicle modeling for dynamic analyses. Many studies were performed for tire modeling and the primitive data of bushing elements can be obtained from the suspension designer, but there are few things for stabilizer. This paper presents simulation results for the 3 kinds of stabilizer model with the multi-body dynamic analysis program ADAMS. Each simulation result was compared with the vehicle test result, and the stabilizer model was proposed to analyze the vehicle behaviors precisely.

Optimum Stiffness of the Sleeper Pad on an Open-Deck Steel Railway Bridge using Flexible Multibody Dynamic Analysis (유연다물체동적해석을 이용한 무도상교량 침목패드의 최적 강성 산정)

  • Installing Continuous Welded Rail (CWR) is one of the economical ways to resolve the challenges of noise, vibration, and the open-deck steel railway bridge impact, and the SSF method using the interlocking sleeper fastener has recently been developed. In this study, the method employed for determining the optimum vertical stiffness of the sleeper pad installed under the bridge sleeper, which is utilized to adjust the rail height and absorb shock when the train passes when the interlocking sleeper fastener is applied, is presented. To determine the optimal vertical stiffness of the sleeper pad, related existing design codes are reviewed, and, running safety, ride comfort, track safety, and bridge vibration according to the change in the vertical stiffness of the sleeper pad are estimated via flexible multi-body dynamic analysis,. The flexible multi-body dynamic analysis is performed using commercial programs ABAQUS and VI-Rail. The numerical analysis is conducted using the bridge model for a 30m-long plate girder bridge, and the response is calculated when passing ITX Saemaeul and KTX vehicles and freight wagon when the vertical stiffness of the sleeper pad is altered from 7.5 kN/mm to 240 kN/mm. The optimum stiffness of the sleeper pad is calculated as 200 kN/mm under the conditions of the track components applied to the numerical analysis.

A Study on the Injury Assessment of Helicopter's Crew with Multi Point Restraint System under Drop Impact (낙하 충격을 받는 다점 구속 장치를 착용한 헬기 승무원의 상해도 평가에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, a method of modeling seat belts on crew seat during dynamic seat testing was studied. The body segments of the occupant were modeled with joints. The joints consisted with various stiffnesses, dampings, and frictions. Three types of seat belt restraint systems were investigated. The analysis for on the injury assessment of helicopter's crew under drop impact was conducted. The effectiveness of the seat belt system for crashworthiness and safety was evaluated. As the results of impact analysis, head, neck and spine of the crew can be easily damaged in the vertical direction more than the longitudinal direction. Based on the verified model, behavior of human body was studied with three-point restraint systems. The displacement and injury level of the 12-point restraint system was the smallest.

Dynamic Response Analyses of Fixed Type Substructures for 2.5MW Class Offshore Wind Turbine

  • This paper explores a series of numerical simulations of dynamic responses of multi-piles (dolphin) type substructures for 2.5MW class offshore wind turbine. Firstly computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation was performed to evaluate wave loads on the dolphin type substructures with the design wave condition for the west-south region of Korea. Numerical wave tank (NWT) based on CFD was adopted to generate numerically a progressive regular wave using a virtual piston type wave maker. It was found that the water-piercing area of piles of the substructure is a key parameter determining the wave load exerted in horizontal direction. In the next the dynamic structural responses of substructure members under the wave load were calculated using finite element analysis (FEA). In the FEA approach, the dynamic structural responses were able to be calculated including a deformable body effect of substructure members when wave load on each member was determined by Morison's formula. The paper numerically identifies dynamic response characteristics of dolphin type substructures for 2.5MW class offshore wind turbine.
