  • In this paper, we propose a learning-based super-resolution algorithm. In the proposed algorithm, a multi-resolution wavelet approach is adopted to perform the synthesis of local high-frequency features. To obtain a high-resolution image, wavelet coefficients of two dominant LH- and HL-bands are estimated based on wavelet frames. In order to prepare more efficient training sets, the proposed algorithm utilizes the LH-band and transposed HL-band. The training sets are then used for the estimation of wavelet coefficients for both LH- and HL-bands. Using the estimated high frequency bands, a high resolution image is reconstructed via the wavelet transform. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed scheme can synthesize high-quality images.

  • We present long-term optical to NIR data of the tidal disruption object, Swift J1644+57. The data were obtained with CQUEAN, UKIRT WFCAM observations. We analyze the morphology of the host galaxy of this object and decompose the bulge component using high resolution HST WFC3 images. We conclude that the host galaxy is bulge dominant. We also estimate the multi-band fluxes of the host galaxy through the light curves based on the long-term observational data. We fit the SED models to the multi-band fluxes of the host galaxy and determine its stellar mass. Finally, we estimate the mass of the central super massive black hole which is responsible for the tidal disruption event. The estimated stellar mass and black hole mass are ${\sim}10^{9.1}M_{\odot}$, ${\sim}10^{6.8}M_{\odot}$, respectively. We compare our results to other previous estimates.

  • We study the origin and acceleration mechanism of solar energetic particles (SEPs), which are one of the major causes of hazardous impacts in the space weather. By adopting the velocity dispersion to the multi-channel energy band observations from SOHO/ERNE and Wind/3DP, we estimate the onset time for each energy band and investigate coronal structure and CME's dynamics associated with the SEPs. Through this study we will find clues to answer the questions about the origin and acceleration of SEPs as well as their associated with flare and/or CMEs. We will apply our findings to improve the forecasting system of the solar radiation storms.

  • In this paper, we presented interference scenarios and an evaluation methodology for the co-frequency radio interference between a multi-beam mobile satellite communication system and a mobile communication system in 2.1 GHz band. Radio interferences between these systems are calculated using a minimum coupling loss method and an assesment for minimum separation distances was conducted for coexistence of a mobile satellite system and a mobile system in the same geographical area.

  • We present high-resolution, high-sensitivity continuum data of NGC 4522 observed at 3 cm (X-band) and 10 cm (S-band) in full polarization mode using the JVLA. This observation has 2 - 4 times better spatial resolution and 2 - 5 times better sensitivity compared to previous continuum observations. NGC 4522 is a Virgo spiral galaxy undergoing active ram pressure stripping. This galaxy is particularly well known for the CO emission detected outside its stellar disk, some of which coincides with the extraplanar HI gas and Halpha patches. The major goal of our JVLA observation is to leverage our understanding of the influence of the ram pressure on the general ISM field and multi-phase medium. By combining our new deep radio continuum data and previous observations, we will investigate how the B-field properties can be affected by the ram pressure, and what roles the B-field plays in the stripping process of the multi-phased ISM and in the star formation activity when the ram pressure is present.

  • The COMS, which is a multi-purposed satellite that provide the oceanic measurement data and meterological image data, is operating since 2010. Ka-band satellite communication transponder in COMS gets the MSM function that can provide the required multi-beam and transmits the multi-mode signal with high data rate. The phase noise of COMS communication transponder can be increased because of several local oscillators for MSM function and the utilization of Ka-band frequency. The phase noise affects the performance for the multi-mode and high rate data based- transmission method, it is not possible to recover the transmission data in system with the high system phase noise. In this paper, the phase noise of COMS was measured and the effects of the measured phase noise are analysed and evaluated in the viewpoint of the noise bandwidth of transmission system, Also the transmission performances for multi-mode and high rate data are evaluated in the presence of COMS phase noise.

  • Cloud removal is often required to construct time-series sets of optical images for environmental monitoring. In regression-based cloud removal, the selection of an appropriate regression model and the impact analysis of the input images significantly affect the prediction performance. This study evaluates the potential of Gaussian process (GP) regression for cloud removal and also analyzes the effects of cloud-free optical images and spectral bands on prediction performance. Unlike other machine learning-based regression models, GP regression provides uncertainty information and automatically optimizes hyperparameters. An experiment using Sentinel-2 multi-spectral images was conducted for cloud removal in the two agricultural regions. The prediction performance of GP regression was compared with that of random forest (RF) regression. Various combinations of input images and multi-spectral bands were considered for quantitative evaluations. The experimental results showed that using multi-temporal images with multi-spectral bands as inputs achieved the best prediction accuracy. Highly correlated adjacent multi-spectral bands and temporally correlated multi-temporal images resulted in an improved prediction accuracy. The prediction performance of GP regression was significantly improved in predicting the near-infrared band compared to that of RF regression. Estimating the distribution function of input data in GP regression could reflect the variations in the considered spectral band with a broader range. In particular, GP regression was superior to RF regression for reproducing structural patterns at both sites in terms of structural similarity. In addition, uncertainty information provided by GP regression showed a reasonable similarity to prediction errors for some sub-areas, indicating that uncertainty estimates may be used to measure the prediction result quality. These findings suggest that GP regression could be beneficial for cloud removal and optical image reconstruction. In addition, the impact analysis results of the input images provide guidelines for selecting optimal images for regression-based cloud removal.

  • A fully-integrated penta-band reconfigurable power amplifier (PA) is developed for handset Tx applications. The output structure of the proposed PA is composed of the fixed output matching network, power and frequency reconfigurable networks, and post-PA distribution switches. In this work, a new reconfiguration technique is proposed for a specific band requiring power and frequency reconfiguration simultaneously. The design parameters for the proposed reconfiguration are newly derived and applied to the PA. To reduce the module size, the switches of reconfigurable output networks and post-PA switches are integrated into a single IC using a $0.18{\mu}m$ silicon-on-insulator CMOS process, and a compact size of $5mm{\times}5mm$ is thus achieved. The fabricated W-CDMA PA module shows adjacent channel leakage ratios better than -39 dBc up to the rated linear power and power-added efficiencies of higher than around 38% at the maximum linear output power over all the bands. Efficiency degradation is limited to 2.5% to 3% compared to the single-band reference PA.

  • In this paper, the transmission channels of L-band and Ka-band multi-media satellite communication systems for the land mobile satellite(LMS) communication service are modeled. Trellis coded(TC) 8PSK is proposed as a power and bandwidth efficient digital transmission scheme for the LMS system, and its error probability performance is analyzed. Block interleaving and deinterleaving are applied to the transmitter and receiver of LMS system respectively in order to compensate for the BER performance degradation of TC-8PSK caused by multipath fading. Viterbi equalizer is also employed in the receiver for channel equalization, and the corresponding BER performance improvement is analyzed.
