  • This paper presents a design of a multi-band infernal antenna for mobile handsets which can cover the major mobile services such as WiBro/WiMAX mobile internet services and Media-FLO/S-DMB services. Using wideband monopole antenna structure, the proposed antenna obtains the wide bandwidth characteristic at high Sequency band to be applicable for new mobile services. Stacking meandered radiator on the wideband monopole radiator and obtaining the different current path and lenga on these stacked radiators, overall antenna volume is effectively reduced. The measured bandwidths (VSWR<3) of the proposed antenna is 270 MHz and 2032 MHz at low and high band, respectively. This antenna can effectively covers major wireless communication bands including Media-FLO, CDMA, GSM, GPS, DCS, PCS, UMTS, WiBro, WiMAX, and S-DMB.

  • In this paper, a planar microstrip patch antenna is proposed using the slit on the top layer of a multi-layered structure for GPS application. The proposed antenna has a circular polarization at 1,575.42 MHz. This proposed antenna is fabricated on multi-layered FR4 substrate. The slits embedded on the top plane may yield to lower a resonance frequency and sustain a broad bandwidth. The proposed antenna size is $20{\times}20{\times}4.0\;mm^3$. The measured gain of 0.5 dBi, 10 dB bandwidth(VSWR 2:1) of 70 MHz(4.4 %), and 3 dB axial-ratio bandwidth of 15 MHz(1 %) have been obtained, respectively.

  • In this paper, multi-band internal antenna which can adjust both resonant frequency and input impedance of antenna as using lumped inductor between shoring plate and ground plane is proposed. The structure of proposed antenna consists of PIFA (Planar Inverted F Antenna) structure and half-wavelength loaded line structure and has two shorting plates and one feeding plate. One shorting plate is shared. The operating frequency bands of designed antenna are GSM, GPS in the PIFA structure and DCS, US-PCS, W-CDMA in half-wave loaded line structure as varying the inductor value in 2.2nH, 3.3nH, and 4.7nH. As varying the inductor value in the shared shorting plate, input impedance of antenna is varied. To minimize the gain variation of antenna as adding lumped element, the inductor value is restricted at maximum of 6.8nH. The maximum gain of proposed antenna is measured as -1.60dBi in the GSM band, -1.16dBi in the GPS band, and 1.41dBi in the DCS/US-PCS/W-CDMA band.

  • In this paper, the quad-band antenna for mobile handsets is proposed and developed. The operating frequency bands include GSM(880 MHz${\~}$960 MHz), GPS(1,575 MHz$\pm$10 MHz), DCS(1,710 MHz${\~}$l,880MHz), and PCS(1,850 MHz${\~}$l,990 MHz). The proposed antenna consists of a feed line, a shorting post, and a radiating element of the feed loop. The multi-band operation is achieved by using the fundamental and higher resonant modes of the radiating element. Based on analysis of the current distribution on the radiator, the resonant frequency of each mode can be adjusted by adding the different sizes of slots on the radiator. The radiator of the feed loop is designed to be symmetrical so that the energy is symmetrically distributed on the radiator, which results in omni-directional radiation pattern. The ground plane under the radiator is removed in order to improve the bandwidth. The measured impedance bandwidths are $10.1\%$ in GSM band(VSWR<2.5), $26.8\%$ in GPS band, and DCS/US-PCS bands(VSWR<2.5), respectively. The maximum gains on the H-plane of the fabricated antenna are measured about -0.37 dBi${\~}$2.55 dBi for all operating frequency bands.

  • In this paper, the internal antenna for mobile communication handset which is able to control both coupling coefficient and resonant frequency without any major modification of radiator and ground plane of antenna. Novel internal antenna with its controllable resonant frequency is presented for triple-band or over mobile handsets. The operating range can include GSM(880~960 MHz), GPS($1,575{\pm}10MHz$), DCS(1,710~1,880MHz), US-PCS(1,850~1,990 MHz), and W-CDMA(1,920~2,170 MHz). The proposed antenna is realized by combination of a half wavelength loaded line antenna and PIFA(Planner Inverted F Antenna). A single shorting and feeding points are used and they are common to both antenna structures. One of two inductors which is placed at each shorting post, one inductor is for adjusts amount of coupling, and the other controlling the resonant frequency in DCS/US-PCS/WCDMA bands. The inductance range for control of input impedance is between 0nH and 6.8nH, and each of gain variation in GSM, GPS and DCS/US-PCS/WCDMA band is under 0.15dBi, 0.73dBi and 0.29dBi. The inductance range for control of the resonant frequency is between 1640MHz and 2500MHz, and each of gain variation in GSM, GPS and DCS/US-PCS/WCDMA band is under 0.46dBi, 0.53dBi and 0.8dBi.

  • To determine precise position GPS carrier phase measurements are used. In addition, the multi-antenna system consisting of 2 or more GPS antennas can make attitude determination effectively. When GPS carrier phase measurements are used the integer ambiguity must be fixed. The success rate is used to validate the integer ambiguity. For LEO satellite attitude determination the double difference carrier phase measurements are used, the success rate is calculated using the covariance matrix and the measurement matrix. The constraint that LEO satellite position vector and attitude vector is orthogonal is suggested for improving the success rate. The LEO satellite orbit model is KITSAT3. The results of the simulation are shown and analyzed.

The proposed antenna is realized by combination of a half wavelength loaded line and a shorted monopole. A single shorting and feeding points are used and they are common to both antenna structures. By controlling a value of lumped inductance element between shorting point and ground plane, the antenna provides enough bandwidth to cover DCS, US-PCS, and W-CDMA respectively. When these higher bands are controlled by the values of inductance, resonant characteristics in GSM and GPS bands are maintained. In this work, maximum value of the inductor is limited within 3.3 nH to mitigate gain degradation from frequency tuning. As a result, measured maximum gain of antenna is -0.58${\~}$-0.30 dBi in the GSM band, -0.57${\~}$0.43 dBi in the GPS band and 0.38${\~}$1.15 dBi in the DCS/US-PCS/W-CDMA band. In higher band, the proposed antenna is certified that resonant frequency of about 240 MHz can be effectively controlled within gain variation of about 0.77 dB by simulation and measurement.

  • Misalignment can be an important problem in the integration of GPS/INS. Observability analysis of the alignment errors in the integration of low-grade inertial sensors and multi-antenna GPS is presented in this paper. A control-theoretic approach is adopted to study the observability of time-varying error dynamics models. The relationship between vehicle motions and the observability of the errors in the lever arm and relative attitude between GPS antenna array and IMU is given. It is shown that alignment errors can be made observable through maneuvering. The change of acceleration makes the components of the relative attitude error that are orthogonal to the direction of the acceleration change observable. The change of angular velocity makes the components of the lever arm error that are orthogonal to the direction of the angular velocity observable. The motion of constant angular velocity has no influence on the estimation of the lever arm.

  • GPS receivers can be disrupted by intentional or unintentional jamming, then it is unable to receive GPS signals and it is impossible to get the correct navigation results. Anti-jamming schemes using array antennas are being studied well due to high performance of those, and the efforts to apply them to GPS receiver are also being done. A GPS receiver structure for a multiple beam-forming scheme among those schemes has been proposed in this paper, and the performance is also compared with that using a general GPS receiver structure. For a general GPS receiver structure, each satellite signal which is formed by a beam-forming scheme is summed to be processed in a part of digital signal processing. For a proposed GPS receiver structure, however, each satellite signal is respectively processed by a designated channel in a part of digital signal processing. Finally, it is confirmed that the proposed GPS receiver structure is superior to a general GPS receiver structure in a point of the carrier to noise power ratio and the navigation accuracy using a software platform.
