Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) were synthesized on different substrates (bare Si and $SiO_2$/Si substrate) to investigate dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) applications as counter electrode materials. The synthesis of MWNTs samples used identical conditions of a Fe catalyst created by thermal chemical vapor deposition at $900^{\circ}C$. It was found that the diameter of the MWNTs on the Si substrate sample is approximately $5{\sim}10nm$ larger than that of a $SiO_2$/Si substrate sample. Moreover, MWNTs on a Si substrate sample were well-crystallized in terms of their Raman spectrum. In addition, the MWNTs on Si substrate sample show an enhanced redox reaction, as observed through a smaller interface resistance and faster reaction rates in the EIS spectrum. The results show that DSSCs with a MWNT counter electrode on a bare Si substrate sample demonstrate energy conversion efficiency in excess of 1.4 %.

This paper presents the results of the optical characteristics of ITO thin film with different buffer layer thicknesses of $SiO_2$ and $Nb_2O_5$ for touch sensor application. $SiO_2$ and $Nb_2O_5$ buffer layers were deposited using RF magnetron sputtering equipment. The buffer layers were inserted between glass and ITO layers. In order to compare with the experimental results, the Essential Macleod Program (EMP) was adopted. Based on EMP simulation, the [$Nb_2O_5{\mid}SiO_2{\mid}ITO$] multi-layered thin film exhibited high transmittance of more than 85% in the visible region. The actual experimental results also showed transmittance of more than 85% in the visible region, indicating that the simulated results were well matched with the experimental results. The sheet resistance of ITO based film was about $340{\Omega}/sq$. The surface roughness maintained a relatively small value within the range of 0.1~0.4 nm when using the $Nb_2O_5$ and $SiO_2$ buffer layers.

Optical thin films were deposited by using a reactive pulsed DC magnetron sputtering method with a high density plasma(HDP). In this study, the effect of sputtering process conditions on the microstructure and optical properties of $SiO_2$, $TiO_2$, $Nb_2O_5$ thin films was clarified. These thin films had flat and dense microstructure, stable stoichiometric composition at the optimal conditions of low working pressure, high pulsed DC power and RF power(HDP). Also, the refractive index of the $SiO_2$ thin films was almost constant, but the refractive indices of $TiO_2$ and $Nb_2O_5$ thin films were changed depending on the microstructure of these films. Antireflection films of $Air/SiO_2/Nb_2O_5/SiO_2/Nb_2O_5/SiO_2/Nb_2O_5/Glass$ structure designed by Macleod program were manufactured by our developed sputtering system. Transmittance and reflectance of the manufactured multilayer films showed outstanding value with the level of 95% and 0.3%, respectively, and also had excellent durability.

The electrical characteristics of band-gap engineered tunneling barriers consisting of thin $SiO_2$ and $Si_3N_4$ dielectric layers were investigated. The band structure of stacked tunneling barriers was studied and the effectiveness of these tunneling barriers was compared with that of the conventional tunneling barrier. The band-gap engineered tunneling barriers show the lower operation voltage, faster speed and longer retention time than the conventional $SiO_2$ tunnel barrier. The thickness of each $SiO_2$ and $Si_3N_4$ layer was optimized to improve the performance of non-volatile memory.

We report a nanometer scale mark formation using a $PtO_x$ thin film or a TbFeCo rare-earth transition metal film and the mechanism. The multi-layer samples($ZnS-SiO_2/PtOx/ZNS-SiO_2,\;ZnS-SiO_2/TbFeCo/ZnS-SiO_2$) were prepared with a magnetron sputtering method on a polycarbonate or a glass substrate. By laser irradiation of approximately a few nanoseconds, nanometer scale marks were fabricated. During the fabrication process, the thin films were thermally reacted or inter-diffused during the laser irradiation. 75 nm bubble marks in the PtOx multi-layer sample by an approximately 4-ns laser irradiation. Inside the bubble mark, Pt particles with a few nanometer sizes are distributed. The $50{\sim}100$ nm bubble marks in the TbFeCo multi-layer sample by a few nanosecond laser irradiations. We will report the detail structure of the samples, the bubble mark formation process and the mechanism.

Recently, there have been many research activities to develop the large-area plasma source, which is able to generate the high-density plasma with relatively good uniformity, for the plasma processing in the thin-film solar cell and display panel industries. The large-area CCP sources have been applied to the PECVD process as well as the etching. Especially, the PECVD processes for the depositions of various films such as a-Si:H, ${\mu}c$-Si:H, Si3N4, and SiO2 take a significant portion of processes. In order to achieve higher deposition rate (DR), good uniformity in large-area reactor, and good film quality (low defect density, high film strength, etc.), the application of VHF (>40 MHz) CCP is indispensible. However, the electromagnetic wave effect in the VHF CCP becomes an issue to resolve for the achievement of good uniformity of plasma and film. Here, we propose a new electrode as part of a method to resolve the standing wave effect in the large-area VHF CCP. The electrode is split up a series of strip-type electrodes and the strip-type electrodes and the ground ones are arranged by turns. The standing wave effect in the longitudinal direction of the strip-type electrode is reduced by using the multi-feeding method of VHF power and the uniformity in the transverse direction of the electrodes is achieved by controlling the gas flow and the gap length between the powered electrodes and the substrate. Also, we provide the process results for the growths of the a-Si:H and the ${\mu}c$-Si:H films. The high DR (2.4 nm/s for a-Si:H film and 1.5 nm/s for the ${\mu}c$-Si:H film), the controllable crystallinity (~70%) for the ${\mu}c$-Si:H film, and the relatively good uniformity (1% for a-Si:H film and 7% for the ${\mu}c$-Si:H film) can be obtained at the high frequency of 40 MHz in the large-area discharge (280 mm${\times}$540 mm). Finally, we will discuss the issues in expanding the multi-electrode to the 8G class large-area plasma processing (2.2 m${\times}$2.4 m) and in improving the process efficiency.

We investigated the influence of RTP annealing of multi-layered metal films deposited on oxides layer. Two types of oxides, BPSG and P-7205, were used as a bottom layer under multi-layered metal film. The bonding was not good in metal/BPSG/Si samples because adhesion between metal layer and BPSG oxide layer was poor by interfacial reaction during RTP annealing above 650$^{\circ}C$. On the other hand bonding was always good in metal/ P-TEOS /Si samples regardless of annealing temperature. We observed the interface between oxide and metal layers using AES and TEM. The phosphorus and oxygen profile in interface between metal and oxide layers were different in metal/BPSG/Si and metal/P-TEOS/Si samples. We have known that the properties of interface was improved in metal/BPSG/Si samples when the sample was annealed below 650$^{\circ}C$.

We present the results of simultaneous observations of the H2O and SiO masers emitted from the circumstellar envelopes (CSEs) of the late-type stars. These observations have been carried out at the four frequency bands (K, Q, W and D bands) using KVN to apply the source frequency phase referencing (SFPR) analysis to the maser lines. We obtain the relative positions between the H2O and the SiO maser spots by using the SFPR method, which are very important to study the physical links between the inner and the outer parts of the CSEs of the late-type stars. The relative positions between the SiO maser spots of the different transitions are also obtained very accurately, which are very crucial to investigate the pumping mechanism of the SiO maser lines. From our results, the capability of the simultaneous multi-band observation of KVN is proved to be powerful to study the complicated physical environments of the CSEs and the stellar evolution of the late-type stars.

In this paper, the inorganic-organic thin film encapsulation layer was newly adopted to protect the organic layer from moisture and oxygen. Using the electron beam, Sputter and Spin-Coater system, the various kinds of inorganic and organic thin-films were deposited onto the Ethylene Terephthalate(PET) and their interface properties between organic and inorganic layer were investigated. In this investigation, the SiON and Polyimide(PI) layer showed the most suitable properties. Under these conditions, the WVTR(water vapour transition rate) for PET can be reduced from level of $0.57\;g/m^2{\cdot}day$ (bare subtrate) to $1{\times}10^{-5}\;g/m^2{\cdot}day$ after application of a SiON and Polyimide layer. These results indicates that the SiON/PI/SiON/PI/PET barrier coatings have high potential for flexible organic light-emitting diode(OLED) applications.
