  • In this paper, we introduce new FRUC method for Multi-View Video based on DIBR (Depth Image based Rendering, DIBR). In the proposed method, we divide each block to sub-regions using depth map. Then, we reconstruct occlusion region information at each sub-regions by using other views. With reconstructed occlusion region information, we estimate and compensate each sub-regions' motion. The proposed method estimates more accurate motion compared to the conventional methods in occlusion region.

  • Smart metering is one of the most implementable internet-of-thing service. In order to implement the smart metering, a wireless communication network should be newly designed and evaluated so as to satisfy quality-of-service of smart metering. In this paper, we consider a wireless network for the smart metering implemented with multi-purpose wireless chips and channel coding-functioned micro controllers. Especially, channel coding is newly adopted to improve successful frame transmission probability. Based on the successful frame transmission probability, average transmission delay and delay violation probability are analyzed. Using the analytical results, service coverage expansion is evaluated. Through the delay analysis, service feasibility can be verified. According to our results, channel coding needs not to be utilized to improve the delay performance if the smart metering service coverage is several tens of meters. However, if more coverage is required, chanel coding adoption definitely reduces the delay time and improve the service feasibility.

  • A large number of vision applications rely on matching keypoints across images. Pedestrian detection is under constant pressure to increase both its quality and speed. Such progress allows for new application. A higher speed enables its inclusion into large systems with extensive subsequent processing, and its deployment in computationally constrained scenarios. In this paper, we focus on improving the speed of pedestrian detection using HOG(histogram of oriented gradient) and multi frame operation which is robust to illumination changes in cluttering images. The result of our simulation indicates that the detection rate and speed of the proposed method is much faster than that of conventional HOG and differential images.

  • A digital image processing technique which is able to get the velocity vector distribution of a surface of the spilled oil in the ocean without contacting the flow itself. This technique is based upon the PIV(Particle Imaging Velocimetry) technique and its system mainly consists of a high sensitive camera, a CCD camera, an image grabber, and a host computer in which an image processing algorithm is adopted for velocity vector acquisition. For the acquisition of the advective velocity vector of floating matters on the ocean, a new multi-frame tracking algorithm is proposed, and for the acquisition of the diffusion velocity vector distribution of the spilt oil onto the water surface, a high sensitive gray-level cross-correlation algorithm is proposed.

  • In this papre, we describe a recently implemented echo canceller for digital cellular communication of Code Division Multiple Access(CDMA) that features time sharing of digital signal processor(DSP) over four channels in one DSP to reduce per channel costs. In the Public Land Mobile Network(PLMN), it is important to cancel the echo reflected from the Public Switched Telephone Network(PSTN) side. In case of digital mobile system, the round-trip delay of the echo is in excess of about 180 milliseconds due to frame-by-frame voice coding. It is necessary to cancel the echo in PLMN. We have developed a multi-channel echo canceller tht operates with Time Switch Module in a Mobile Switching Center(MSC). The general echo canceller needs PCM trunk interface circuits and the tone detection and disabling circuits, but the multi-channel echo canceller linked with Time Switch Module does not need them. Therefore we could develop the effective and economical echo canceller.

  • The effectiveness of 100/30, 100/40 and SRSS directional combination rules on the response of asymmetric setback buildings is examined. Because of the irregularity in setback buildings, the maximum seismic response would be correlative with the direction of earthquake. To verify the directional combination rules of mode superposition methods, the time history analyses of setback buildings to real earthquake records are carried out. Example analyses have been used to compare the validty and accuracy of SRSS and percentage methods for frame and dual frame-wall systems.

  • The response of multi-story building structures to lateral loads, mainly due to earthquake and wind, is investigated for preliminary design purposes. Emphasis is placed on structural systems consisting of rigid and braced steel frames. An attempt to gain a qualitative understanding of the influence of bending and shear stiffness distribution on the deformations of such structures is made. This is achieved by modeling the structure with a stiffness equivalent Timoshenko beam. It is observed that the conventional stiffness distribution, dictated by strength constraints, may not be the best to satisfy deflection criteria. This is particularly the case for slender structural systems with prevailing bending deformations, such as flexible braced frames. This suggests that a new approach to the design of such frames may be appropriate when serviceability governs. A pertinent strategy for preliminary design purposes is proposed.

Video-based Height Measurements of Multiple Moving Objects

  • This paper presents a novel video metrology approach based on robust tracking. From videos acquired by an uncalibrated stationary camera, the foreground likelihood map is obtained by using the Codebook background modeling algorithm, and the multiple moving objects are tracked by a combined tracking algorithm. Then, we compute vanishing line of the ground plane and the vertical vanishing point of the scene, and extract the head feature points and the feet feature points in each frame of video sequences. Finally, we apply a single view mensuration algorithm to each of the frames to obtain height measurements and fuse the multi-frame measurements using RANSAC algorithm. Compared with other popular methods, our proposed algorithm does not require calibrating the camera, and can track the multiple moving objects when occlusion occurs. Therefore, it reduces the complexity of calculation and improves the accuracy of measurement simultaneously. The experimental results demonstrate that our method is effective and robust to occlusion.

A Study on the Improvement of PIV Performance (PIV의 성능개선에 관한 연구)

  • The present study is aimed to improve the PIV performance by suggesting a two-frame particle identification technique and by introducing estimation method of wall pressure distribution from the velocity data. Adopted image processing system consists of one commercial image board slit into a personal computer, 2-D sheet light generator, flow picture recording apparatus and related particle identification software. A revised particle tracking method essential to PIV performance is obtained by particle centroid correlation pairing (CCP) and its effectiveness is ascertained by comparison with multi-frame identification.
