Agent-based System for Complex Decision Making and Negotiation: Application to Virtual Manufacturing (복잡한 의사결정과 협상 환경을 위한 에이전트 기반 시스템: 가상생산 응용)

  • In an agent-based system, each agent has its own decision making capability and competes, cooperates, and communicates each other with an agent interface. Virtual manufacturing has characteristics as a typical application area of agent-based system: complex and time-bound decision making and negotiation. The time-boundness influences the choice of decision making models and design of protocols for internal and external negotiation. In this paper, we provide a case study which suggests a time-bound framework for external and internal negotiation between the agents for virtual manufacturing environment. We illustrate decision making model selection strategy and the system architecture of the agent-based system for the complex and time-bound environment.

  • Recently, new intelligent service frameworks, such as ubiquitous computing are proposed. So, the necessity of adaptive agent system has been increased. In this paper, we propose an intelligent service agent to help that ubiquitous computing system offer user suitable service in ubiquitous computing environment. In order to offer user suitable uT-service, an intelligent service agent mediates the gap between the context information in uT-service system, and user preference is reflected in it. Therefore, we focus on following three components; the first is suitable multi agent framework-agent communication analysis and applicable method of inference engine, the second is uT-ontologies to describe various context information-context information sharing between agents and context information understanding between agents, the third is learning method of user profile to apply in uT-service system. This approach enables us to build adaptive uT-service system to offer suitable service according to user preference.

Agent Communication with Multiple Ontologies (다중온톨로지의 에이전트 통신)

  • In this paper, we discuss how ontology Plays roles in building a distributed and heterogeneous knowledge-base system. First, we discuss relationship between ontology and agent in the Knowledgeable Community which is a framework of knowledge sharing and reuse based on a multi-agent architecture. Ontology is a minimum requirement for each agent to join the Knowledgeable Community. Second we explain mediation by ontology to show how ontology is used in the Knowledgeable Community. A special agent called mediation analyzes undirected messages and infer candidates of recipient agents by consulting ontology and relationship between ontology and agents. Third we model ontology as combination of aspects each of which can represent a way of conceptualization. Aspects are combined either as combination aspect which means integration of aspects or category aspect which means choice of aspects. Since ontology by aspect allows heterogeneous and multiple descriptions for phenomenon in the world, it is appropriate for heterogeneous knowledge-base systems. We also show translation of messages as a wave of interpreting multiple aspects. A translation agent can translate a message with some aspect to one with another aspect by analyzing dependency of aspects. Mediation and translation of messages are important to build agents easily and naturally because less knowledge on other agents is requested for each agent.

Digital Twin based Household Water Consumption Forecasting using Agent Based Modeling

  • The continuous increase in urban population due to migration of mases from rural areas to big cities has set urban water supply under serious stress. Urban water resources face scarcity of available water quantity, which ultimately effects the water supply. It is high time to address this challenging problem by taking appropriate measures for the improvement of water utility services linked with better understanding of demand side management (DSM), which leads to an effective state of water supply governance. We propose a dynamic framework for preventive DSM that results in optimization of water resource management. This paper uses Agent Based Modeling (ABM) with Digital Twin (DT) to model water consumption behavior of a population and consequently forecast water demand. DT creates a digital clone of the system using physical model, sensors, and data analytics to integrate multi-physical quantities. By doing so, the proposed model replicates the physical settings to perform the remote monitoring and controlling jobs on the digital format, whilst offering support in decision making to the relevant authorities.

  • In the age of ubiquitous environment, huge number of devices and computing services are provided to users. Personalized service, which is modeled according to the character of each and every individual is of particular need. In order to provide various dynamic services according to user's movement, service unit and operating mode should be able to operate automatically with minimum user intervention. In this paper, we discuss the steps of offering approximate service based on user's request in ubiquitous environment. First, we present our simulator designed for modeling the physical resource and computing object in smart space - the infrastructure in ubiquitous. Second, intelligent agents, which we developed based on a FIPA specification compliant multi-agent framework will be discussed. These intelligent agents are developed for achieving the service goal through cooperation between distributed agents. Third, we propose an automated service discovery and composition method in heterogeneous environment using semantic message communication between agents, according to the movement by the user interacting with the service available in the smart space. Fourth, we provide personalized service through agent monitoring anytime, anywhere from user's profile information stored on handhold device. Therefore, our research provides high quality service more than general automated service operation.

A Development of Intelligent Simulation Tools based on Multi-agent (멀티 에이전트 기반의 지능형 시뮬레이션 도구의 개발)

  • Simulation means modeling structures or behaviors of the various objects, and experimenting them on the computer system. And the major approaches are DEVS(Discrete Event Systems Specification). Petri-net or Automata and so on. But, the simulation problems are getting more complex or complicated these days, so that an intelligent agent-based is being studied. In this paper, we are describing an intelligent agent-based simulation tool, which can supports the simulation experiment more efficiently. The significances of our system can be described as follows. First, the system can provide some AI algorithms through the system libraries. Second, the system supports simple method of designing the simulation model, since it's been built under the Finite State Machine (FSM) structure. And finally, the system acts as a simulation framework by supporting user not only the simulation engine, but also user-friendly tools, such as modeler scriptor and simulator. The system mainly consists of main simulation engine, utility tools, and some other assist tools, and it is tested and showed some efficient results in the three different problems.

Study on the Illocutionary Effect-Based FIPA-ACL Semantics (언표내적 효과 기반의 FIPA-ACL 의미론 연구)

  • One of the most important aspects of the research on multi-agent systems is the definition of agent communication languages(ACLs) and the specification of a proper formal semantics of ACLs. In this paper, we propose an illocutionary effect-based FIPA-ACL semantics which overcomes the two traditional semantic approaches. The key idea of this new semantics is based on the semantic concepts of success and satisfaction conditions of illocutionary acts in speech act theory, and the common ground theory-based framework. As case studies using this new semantics, we define the primitive speech acts of FIPA-ACL such as inform and request. For the strengths of the proposed approach we illustrate our new semantics on an e-commerce agent purchase negotiation. Also, we compare this approach with two traditional semantic approaches for ACLs.

  • Decentralized 정보는 여러 도메인에 대한 heterogeneous한 독립적인 정보가 자율적으로 존재하며 이들 정보간의 관계성의 고려한 전체에 대한 global view가 존재하지 않기 때문에 inter-domain에 대한 마이닝을 수행하는데 어려움이 있다. 본 연구에서는 intra-domain knowledge discovery, intra 및 inter-domain problem solving method라는 접근방법으로, decentralized 데이터 환경에서 문제 해결에 필요한 정보 추출을 위한 데이터 tailoring과 분산 데이터에 대한 목표-지향 데이터마이닝(goal-oriented data-mining)을 통해 문제 해결을 위해 필요한 지식을 생성하고 이들 간의 관련 정보를 탐색하여 문제를 해결하는 프레임워크를 제안한다. 특히, 생성된 지식간의 협동 문제 처리를 멀티 에이전트 패러다임을 이용하기로 한다. 제안 프레임워크는 산재되어 있는 데이터들로부터 문제 해결에 유용한 지식 차원의 정보를 추출해내고 생성된 지식을 바탕으로 각 도메인 정보에 대한 개별적인 사용뿐 만 아니라 서로 cooperation을 통한 문제 해결을 지원함으로써, 개방된 분산 환경하에 decentralized 되어 있는 여러 도메인 정보를 보다 효율적으로 활용할 수 있는 새로운 형태의 문제 해결 방법이라고 할 수 있다.

  • It is very difficult to construct and manager public transit, like subway, in small city. In this paper, we suggest full electric vehicle sharing service framework as a public transit system in small city. The suggested system will reduce environment pollution and increase resource usage efficiency. The simulation result shows that the suggested electric vehicle sharing system can reduce traffic congestion and lower city road stress.

  • 인터넷이 급속히 발전하고 확산되면서 정보를 효율적으로 활용하고 유통시키기 위한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. OAI(Open Archives Initiative)에서는 대용량 정보를 메타데이터를 이용하여 공유하고 검색할 수 있는 프로토콜 및 임프라에 대한 연구와 표준화를 추진하고 있다. 또한 EMAF(An Extensible Multi-Agent Framework)에서는 멀티에이전트를 이용한 정보 유통 및 활용한 대한 연구가 진행중이다. 이에, 본 논문에서는 메타데이타과 XML, 멀티에이전트를 이용한 분산검색 시스템을 설계하고 구현하였다. 본 시스템은 조정에이전트와 응용에이전트로 구성되고 에이전트간 통신에는 XML과 OAI의 메타데이타 하비스팅 프로토콜을 응용하였다. 메타데이터에 대한 검색을 수행하여 검색 성능을 높일 수 있었으며 또한 사용자가 입력한 문장 단위의 질의를 처리할 수 있는 기능과 관련어를 추출할 수 있는 기능도 제공한다.
