  • Handball sport, as its name postulates, is a team sport which highly physical workout. During a handball play, several ball impacts are applied on the hands resulting vibration in the forearm, upper arm, shoulders and in general in whole body. Hand has important role in the handball's game. So, understanding about the dynamics and some issues that improve the stability of the hand is important in the sport engineering field. Ulna and radius are two parallel bones in lower arm of human hand which their ends are located in elbow and wrist joint. The type of the joint provides the capability of rotation of the lower arm. These two bones with their ends conditions in the joints constructs a 4-link frame. The ulna is slightly thinner than radius. So, understanding about hand kinematics in handball's game is an important thing in the engineering field. So, in the current work with the aid of a multi-physics simulation, dynamic stability analysis of the ulna and radius bones will be presented in detail.

  • In this study, the accuracy of CSD (Comprehensive Structural Dynamics) analysis on the evaluation of blade aeroelastic responses and structural loads of HART(Higher harmonic Aeroacoustic Rotor Test) II baseline rotor is assessed using a comprehensive rotorcraft dynamics code, CAMRAD II, and a nonlinear flexible multi-body dynamics analysis code, DYMORE. Considering insufficient measurement data for HART II rotor, prescribed airloads computed by a three-dimensional compressible flow solver KFLOW are used to replace the lifting-line airloads and thereby enhance the prediction capability of the comprehensive analyses. The CSD results on blade elastic deflections using the prescribed airloads indicate more oscillatory behavior than those by lifting-line based approaches, but the wave pattern becomes improved by including artificial damping into the rotor system. It is demonstrated that the structural load predictions are improved significantly by the prescribed airloads approach against the measured data, as compared with an isolated CSD analysis.

  • This paper deals with a dynamic modeling of artillery system loaded by gun charge explosion during firing condition. Geometric and elastic gun data are used to modify a projectile interaction model. The maximum impact force on gun barrel was 15,000 N and the gun barrel moved about 1.3 m. A cannon bal] was presented to travel in the flexible gun, the traveling distance was about 23,000 m, and the angular velocity was about 10rad/sec. The artillery dynamic system using the multi-body dynamics enables us to obtain the data for the fatigue analysis.

  • In this paper, a numerical analysis technique using a body force model is investigated to estimate the available net thrust of multi-pod-driven ice-breaking vessels under bollard pull and overload conditions. To employ the body force model in present flow simulations, drag and thrust components acting on the pod unit are calculated by using Propeller Open Water (POW) test data. The available net thrusts according to the direction of operation are evaluated in both bollard pull and overload conditions under deep water. The simulation results are compared with the model test data. The available net thrusts, calculated by the present analysis for ahead operating modes at 3~6 knots which are typical speeds of the target vessel in arctic field, are agreed well with the model test results. It is also found that the present result for astern operating mode appears approximately 6 % larger than the model test result. In addition, the available net thrusts are calculated under the both operating conditions accompanied by shallow water effects, and the main cause of the difference is studied. Based on the result of the present study, it is confirmed that the body force model can be applied to the performance evaluation of multi-pod propulsion system and the main engine selection in early design stage of the vessel.

  • In this paper, a strongly coupled method for investigating the interaction between a cable and tow-fish is presented. The nodal position finite element method was utilized to analyze the nonlinear cable dynamics, and 6DOF equations of motion were employed to describe the 3D rigid body motion of the tow-fish. Combining cable and tow-fish systems into a single formulation allowed the two nonlinear systems to be strongly coupled into a unified nonlinear system. This strongly coupled system was numerically integrated in the time domain using a predictor/multi-corrector Newmark algorithm. To demonstrate the validity, efficacy, and applicability of the current approach, two different scenarios (virtual and sea trial) were simulated, and the simulation results were validated using the physical plausibility and the sea trial test.
