The Monitoring System Using Multi Antenna GPS for Weak Slope (Multi Antenna GPS를 이용한 취약사면 상시모니터링 시스템)

  • While the budget has been allocated more for repairs and reinforcements, casualties are gradually increased due to slope disaster. Slope disaster causes road damaged as well as casualties. It also causes significant social and economic loss. The measurement device, which is installed inside ground of slope like inclinometer, has the high loss rate when slope is being slided. The electric type and the vibrating wire type have low durability because of corrosion. To cover the demerit of the present slope monitoring, the measurement method using the Multi-Antenna GPS has been developed. The Multi-Antenna GPS has been installed in the local slope as the regular monitoring system for slope. Although the initial cost of the Multi-Antenna GPS for installation is high, the additional cost is low. So it is the suitable method for large slope. The regular monitoring system using the Multi-Antenna GPS is the suitable measurement method for watching slope collapse, which is occurred widely, because it is economical, has high durability, and collects data with high resolution.

  • This paper proposed a method to design the offset slotted rectangular microstrip patch antenna which can be used for GPS antenna. The multi-port connection method and the desegmentation technique had been used to analyze !he characteristics of this antenna. To reduce a size of this antenna, a dielectric substrate with a high permittivity($\varepsilon_{\gamma}$=10.2) was used and a offset rectangular slot was inserted in the microstrip patch antenna. The dimension of a manufactured antenna is $20\times30\times1.27$[mm]. Accordingly this small antenna can be used directly GPS antenna or cellular phone.

  • In the GPS/DR integrated system, the GPS position(or velocity) is used to compensate the DR output and to calibrate errors in the DR sensor. This synergistic relationship ensures that the calibrated DR accuracy can be maintained even when the GPS signal is blocked. Because of the observability problem, however, the DR sensors are not sufficiently calibrated when the vehicle speed is low. This problem can be solved if we use a multi-antenna GPS receiver for attitude determination instead of conventional one. This paper designs a two-antenna GPS receiver integrated with DR sensors. The proposed integration system has three remarkable features. First, the DR sensor can be calibrated regardless of the vehicle speed with the aid of two-antenna GPS receiver. Secondly, the search space of integer ambiguities in GPS carrier-phase measurements is reduced to a part of the surface of the sphere using DR heading. Thirdly, the detection resolution of cycle-slips in GPS carrier-phase measurements is improved with the aid of DR heading. From the experimental result, it is shown that the search grace is drastically reduced to about 3120 of the non-aided case and the cycle-slips of 1 or half cycle can be detected.

  • There are a great number of man-made and natural slopes in many parts of the world including Hong Kong and Mainland China. For example, there are over 40,000 slopes in Hong Kong registered by the Hong Kong Government. Landslides due to slope failures can often cause catastrophes that involve the loss of both lives and important facilities. GPS has been demonstrated to have great potentials for use in monitoring slope stability and landslides. However, the high hardware cost of GPS has limited the wide spread use of GPS for such applications. The multi-antenna GPS technology initiated by the research group and our collaborators has significantly reduced the cost of GPS and provided a solution to a number of associated problems such as data management and power supply. This paper discusses practical applications of multi-antenna GPS technology in slope monitoring, including system design, setting up, data transmission and management, and data quality analysis and control. Some slope monitoring examples are given to illustrate the points discussed.

Design of Dual-Polarized and Multi-Band Multi-Layer Patch Antenna (다층구조의 이중편파 다중대역 패치 안테나 설계)

  • In this paper, a dual-polarized multi-band multi-layer antenna for a vehicle, which operates in the GPS, bluetooth, and DSRC bands, was implemented. The antenna was designed as a multi-layer structure, and a FR4-epoxy substrate with =4.4 and =1.6mm was used. GPS and DSRC antennas have circular polarized characteristics, and a single probe feeding method was applied. Simulated results by Ansys HFSS v11 was compared with the measured ones. The size of the optimally designed antenna is $67mm{\times}67mm{\times}4.8mm$, -10dB bandwidth of the anatenna was measured to be 820MHz, 127MHz, and 862MHz in each band, and 3dB AR bandwidth of the antenna was simulated to be 19MHz and 110MHz in GPS and DSRC bands. The results confirmed that suggested system satisfies the system requirements.

  • This paper presents the design of a novel integrated T-DMB/GPS/Mobile antenna for vehicular application. The T-DMB antenna is designed with a modified meander-type microstrip patch providing linearly a polarized broadside radiation pattern. The GPS antenna is designed with an inserted slot in the patch antenna providing circularly polarized broadside radiation pattern. The Mobile (GSM, AMPS, DCS, PCS, UMTS, etc.) antenna is designed as a modified G-type patch antenna providing multi-band operation. Experimental results indicate that the impedance bandwidth (VSWR 1:2.5) of the proposed T-DMB /GPS/Mobile antenna satisfactorily matches that of the simulation results. The 2D and 3D radiation patterns and gains according to the results of the experiment are also presented and discussed.

A Spoofing Detection Scheme Based on Elevation Masked-Relative Received Power in GPS Receivers using Multi-band Array Antenna

  • Many spoofing detection studies have been conducted to cope with the most difficult types of deception among various disturbances of GPS, such as jamming, spoofing, and meaconing. In this paper, we propose a spoofing detection scheme based on elevation masked-relative received power between GPS L1 and L2 signals in a system using a multi-band array antenna. The proposed scheme focuses on enabling spoofing to be normally detected and minimizes the possibility of false detection in an environment where false alarms may occur due to pattern distortion among elements of an array antenna. The pattern distortion weakens the GPS signal strength at low elevation. It becomes confusing to detect a spoofing signal based on the relative power difference between GPS L1 and L2, especially when GPS L2 has weak signal strength. We propose design parameters for the relative power threshold including beamforming gain, the minimum received power difference between L1 and L2, and the patch antenna gain difference between L1 and L2. In addition, in order to eliminate the weak signal strength of GPS L2 in the spoofing detection process, we propose a rotation matrix that sets the elevation mask based on platform coordinates. Array antennas generally do not have high usefulness in commercial areas where receivers are operated alone, but are considered essential in military areas where GPS receivers are used together with signal processing for beamforming in the direction of GPS satellites. Through laboratory and live sky tests using the device under test, the proposed scheme with an elevation mask detects spoofing signals well and reduces the probability of false detection relative to that without the elevation mask.

  • In this paper, a quad-band antenna for GSM/GPS/DCS/US-PCS handsets is proposed. The proposed antenna is low-profile for mounting in limited inner space of a handset. It consists of three open points with quarter wave length for multi-band operation. The ground plane below the patch is removed for wide-bandwidth without the variation of antenna size and the slot is added at the center of the patch for convenient matching in high frequency band. It provides a enough bandwidth within VSWR 3:1 at all bands. In addition, the measured peak gains are between -2.19 and 2.09 in anechoic chamber (10m$\times$6m$\times$4m).

  • In this paper, microstrip antenna using multi-layer and folded structure for GPS application is presented for aircraft loading. Existing microstrip patch antenna used dielectric of high specific inductive capacity to miniaturize that cause smaller bandwidth and decline of efficiency due to dielectric loss. To compensate the existing flaws, Rogers TMM 10i(dielectric constant=9.8, loss tangent=0.002) is used for multi-layer dielectric miniaturization, and we construct folded radiating element on the surface of the dielectric applying perturbation effect. The antenna is designed in the bandwidth of GPS $L_1$ band, and the size of the antenna's radiating element is $20.3mm{\times}19.93mm$, and it gets 94.2% miniaturized characteristic of basic ${\lambda}/2$ microstrip patch antenna. Also the measured -10 dB bandwidth is 32.3 MHz(2.05%), 3 dB axial ratio bandwidth is 6.7 MHz(0.43%). Measured radiation patterns was maximum gain of 0.56 dBi at x axis polarization, 1.23 dBi at y axis polarization.
