  • The difference in growth rate of p. orientalis cultured on muddy bottom region and sandy bottom region in a pond filled with sea water were studied. For the investigation of the growth rate, the body length and the body weight were determined. Five individuals from each experimental region were sampled in random. The samples were collected at ten-day intervals. The survival rate, the qredator of p. orientalis, and the water conditions during the experimental period were also determined. The results in this study are summerized as follows: 1. The growth rate of p. orientalis which was cultured in the muddy bottom region was greater than that in the sandy bottom region. This is attributable in either case regardless of whether they were cultured with or without food, 2. The relationship between the culturing period (X) and the body length (Y) is : Muddy bottom, Food Y=0.58497X+25.05210 Sandy bottom, Food Y=0.51030X+26.57900 Muddy bottom, No food Y=0.22352X+32.79360 Sandy bottom, No food Y=0.l1418X+31.20740 3. The relationship between the culturing period (X) and the body weight (Y) is : Muddy bottom, Food Y=0.09062X-2.11140 Sandy bottom, Food Y=0.06992X-1.19640 Muddy bottom, No food Y=0.01615X+0.51150 Sandy bottom, No food Y=0.00495X+0.56150 4. When the predator is not present, $84\%$ of P. orientalis may survive. 5. Acanthogobius flavimanus is one of the predator of P. orientalis. 6. It is considered that the variation of water conditions of the pond, in which water had been exchanged 12 times per month, did not affect to the survival rate of P. orientalis.

  • Using artificial rainfall simulator, the soil loss, which is deemed as most cause of muddy water problem among Non-point source(NPS) pollutant, was studied by the analysis of direct runoff flow, groundwater runoff, and groundwater storage properties concerned with rainfall intensity, slope of area, and land cover. The direct runoff showed increasing tendency in both straw covered and bared boxes which are 5%, 10%, and 20% sloped respectively. Also the direct runoff volume from straw covered surface boxes were much lower than bared surface boxes. It's deemed as that the infiltration capacity of straw covered surface boxes were increased, because the surface sealing by fine material of soil surface didn't occurred due to the straw covering. Under the same rainfall intensity and slope condition, 2.4 ${\sim}$ 8.2 times of sediment yield were occurred from bared surface boxes more than straw covered surface boxes. The volume of infiltrated were increased due to straw cover, the direct runoff flow were decreased with decreasing of tractive force in surface. To understand of relationship the rate of direct runoff flow, groundwater runoff, and groundwater storage by the rainfall intensity, slope, and land cover, the statistical test was performed. It shows good relationship between most of factors, expect between the rate of groundwater storage and rainfall intensity.

  • Due to muddy water from the highland fields upstream of Soyangho Lake, the Mandae, Gaa, and Jawoon have been redesignated as NPS management areas. This study aims to evaluate the adequacy and supplementation points of the implementation plan by analyzing the operation status of muddy water generation and reduction facilities through on-site investigations by NPS management area to achieve the effective nonpoint pollution reduction goal in the implementation of the implementation plan established in 2020. The SS load calculated based on the survey results from July to October 2019 from 2017 showed a decreasen in 2019 compared to 2017. Both and the Jawoon were analyzed to have decreased. However, the amount of precipitation also decreased by about 27%, so it was judged that the effect of the reduction project was not significant. As a result of the detailed investigation of abatement facilities, about 86% of the 793 facilities installed in the management area were evaluated as 'good'. As a result of a detailed investigation by subwatersheds, subwatersheds 105 and 106 in the Mandae were analyzed as apprehensive subwatersheds. appeared to fall. In addition, it was analyzed that the effect of reducing muddy water in the Mandae district was insufficient due to the high ratio of leased farmers, lack of efforts to reduce turbid water in leased farmland, conversion to annual crops, and neglect of bare land. In the case of Gaa district, although the abatement facilities are concentrated in the upstream, muddy water was also found to be severe.

  • A stability analysis has been made for a newly designed gate of intake tower of reservoir. The analysis is composed of finding the natural frequency of the gate and the frequency induced by water flowing over and through the gate. ANSYS is employed to calculate the natural frequency of the gate and SC/Tetra is utilized for calculating flow field around the gate, which in turn gives the frequency of pressure force fluctuation on the gate. In addition to the safety analysis, the present study presents how the gate selectively intakes a muddy water layer located in the middle depth of reservoir.

  • Field experiment were carried out to investigate the formation of ground water flow and remediation of muddy tidal flat by installation of porous pile at the tidal flat of brackish river located in Hiroshima City, Japan. After the installation of porous pile, the concentrations of Dissolved Oxygen (DO) in the interstitial water in the porous pile increased with maximum concentration of 4 mg/L due to a formation of groundwater flow. It was observed that a increase in Oxidation Reduction Potential (ORP) and a decrease in Ignition Loss (IL) in the porous pile site and these must be caused by the increase of dissolved oxygen in the interstitial water. From these results obtained above, it is concluded that the porous pile is an effective technology for remediation of muddy tidal flats.

  • In the current study the effects on pump performances of a conventional centrifugal pump for Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluid were experimentally studied. The study aimed to compare the pump characteristics for Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluid. The working fluids are water, aqueous sugar solution, glycerin solution, muddy solution and pulp solution. The pump characteristics with high viscosity fluids were different. The operating efficiency for the sugar and glycerin solutions were decreased to $8.1\%$ and $12.9\%$ than that of water. The head reductions of the muddy solution for different concentration ratios were decreased to $7.97\%,\;15.11\%$ and $24.87\%$ than that of water And the head reductions of the pulp solution for different concentration ratios were decreased to $11.87\%,\;19.79\%$ md $36.81\%$ than that of water.

  • Researchers developed Sediment Trap Drain Channel (STDC) as a solution of the reduction of soil erosion and muddy runoff from a alpine field. The STDC is the one that can take a role of grit chamber by installing the shield made of woods in the concrete channel. The study was conducted 8 kinds of stages according to the amount of soil loss and the inflow. Evaluation factors were ss concentration, turbidity and reduced soil. The results of study showed lessness of ss concentration and turbidity from the lower spot than the upper spot. The average reduction rate of ss concentration was 74 % and the average reduction rate of turbidity was 62 %. It was turned out that the performance related soil loss and muddy runoff of the STDC is effective. The governance was needed to expect the effectiveness of the STDC.

  • This paper analyzed elution and ingredients of soil components which consist of soil and rocks in 6 regions in Yeongyang and Cheongsong to identify substantial matters that cause muddy water in Imha reservoir. We identified that more than 80% of major ingredients in collected soil and rocks are vermiculite(V), illite(I), kaolinite(Ka), quartz(Q), feldspar(F). Sodium and calcium are eluted in large quantities from soil of Sanseong and Cheongki. When calcium is in contact with water, much ions are eluted rapidly. We confirmed these ions are alkali minerals rising pH. We consider clay components distributed in Yeongyang as major cause of muddy water and rising pH of Imha reservoir because its ingredient calcite easily is dissolved in rainwater and splits other mineral particles into ${\mu}m$ sized particles.
