Protocol Design for Fire Receiver­based Fire Detection Robots (화재수신기 기반의 화재감시로봇을 위한 프로토콜 설계)

  • Conventional fire fighting robots are controlled by a remote control to monitor the fire scene or to suppress the fire. However, this method has a problem that it takes a long time to prepare robot and input it to fire place in the golden time after the fire, so that it can not sufficiently serve as a fire fighting robot. Using the autonomous driving fire monitoring robot, when a fire signal is generated, in conjunction with a fire receiver a moving robot takes a video of the fire scene and delivers the image to the fire department, so that the fire fighter can decide if it is real fire or not. Thereby it is possible to prevent a sudden spread of an accident by providing a quick judgment opportunity and at the same time suppressing the fire early. In this paper, we propose an architecture of the autonomous mobile fire monitoring robot and the communication protocol required for the robot to work with the fire receiver. A communication protocol is designed to control multiple fire monitoring robots in real time, and a communication with a fire receiver is designed as a hierarchical network to serve as an interface of an Ethernet network using wireless Wi-Fi. The fire monitoring robot and the wireless communication of the fire receiving period are implemented and the effectiveness of the operation is confirmed through the field test.

Human Motion Tracking by Combining View-based and Model-based Methods for Monocular Video Sequences (하나의 비디오 입력을 위한 모습 기반법과 모델 사용법을 혼용한 사람 동작 추적법)

  • Reliable tracking of moving humans is essential to motion estimation, video surveillance and human-computer interface. This paper presents a new approach to human motion tracking that combines appearance-based and model-based techniques. Monocular color video is processed at both pixel level and object level. At the pixel level, a Gaussian mixture model is used to train and classily individual pixel colors. At the object level, a 3D human body model projected on a 2D image plane is used to fit the image data. Our method does not use inverse kinematics due to the singularity problem. While many others use stochastic sampling for model-based motion tracking, our method is purely dependent on nonlinear programming. We convert the human motion tracking problem into a nonlinear programming problem. A cost function for parameter optimization is used to estimate the degree of the overlapping between the foreground input image silhouette and a projected 3D model body silhouette. The overlapping is computed using computational geometry by converting a set of pixels from the image domain to a polygon in the real projection plane domain. Our method is used to recognize various human motions. Motion tracking results from video sequences are very encouraging.

A numerical study on the dispersion of the Yangtze River water in the Yellow and East China Seas

  • A three-dimensional numerical model using POM (the Princeton Ocean Model) is established in order to understand the dispersion processes of the Yangtze River water in the Yellow and East China Seas. The circulation experiments for the seas are conducted first, and then on the bases of the results the dispersion experiments for the river water are executed. For the experiments, we focus on the tide effects and wind effects on the processes. Four cases of systematic experiments are conducted. They comprise the followings: a reference case with no tide and no wind, of tide only, of wind only, and of both tide and wind. Throughout this study, monthly mean values are used for the Kuroshio Current input in the southern boundary of the model domain, for the transport through the Korea Strait, for the river discharge, for the sea surface wind, and for the heat exchange rate across the air-sea interface. From the experiments, we obtained the following results. The circulation of the seas in winter is dependent on the very strong monsoon wind as several previous studies reported. The wintertime dispersion of the Yangtze River water follows the circulation pattern flowing southward along the east coast of China due to the strong monsoon wind. Some observed salinity distributions support these calculation results. In summertime, generally, low-salinity water from the river tends to spread southward and eastward as a result of energetic vertical mixing processes due to the strong tidal current, and to spread more eastward due to the southerly wind. The tide effect for the circulation and dispersion of the river water near the river mouth is a dominant factor, but the southerly wind is still also a considerable factor. Due to both effects, two major flow directions appear near the river mouth. One of them is a northern branch flow in the northeast area of the river mouth moving eastward mainly due to the weakened southerly wind. The other is a southern branch flow directed toward the southeastern area off the river mouth mostly caused by tide and wind effects. In this case, however, the tide effect is more dominant than the wind effect. The distribution of the low salinity water follows the circulation pattern fairly well.

Visual Feedback System for Manipulating Objects Using Hand Motions in Virtual Reality Environment (가상 환경에서의 손동작을 사용한 물체 조작에 대한 시각적 피드백 시스템)

  • With the recent development of various kinds of virtual reality devices, there has been an active research effort to increase the sense of reality by recognizing the physical behavior of users rather than by classical user input methods. Among such devices, the Leap Motion controller recognizes the user's hand gestures and can realistically trace the user's hand in a virtual reality environment. However, manipulating an object in virtual reality using a recognized user's hand often causes the hand to pass through the object, which should not occur in the real world. This study presents a way to build a visual feedback system for enhancing the user's sense of interaction between hands and objects in virtual reality. In virtual reality, the user's hands are examined precisely by using a ray tracing method to see if the virtual object collides with the user's hand, and when any collision occurs, visual feedback is given through the process of reconstructing the user's hand by moving the position of the end of the user's fingers that enter the object through sign distance field and reverse mechanics. This enables realistic interaction in virtual reality in real time.

  • Recently, as the number of facilities using chemicals is increasing, the amount of handling is rapidly increasing. However, chemical spills are occurring steadily, and if large quantities of chemicals are leaked in time, they are likely to cause major damage. These industrial complexes use information obtained from a number of sensors to detect and monitor leaking areas, and are used in industrial fields by applying existing fixed sensors to robots and drones. Therefore, it is necessary to propose a sensor placement method at the interface for rapid detection and response based on various leaking scenarios reflecting leaking conditions and environmental conditions of the chemical handling process. In this study, COMSOL was used to analyze the actual accident scenarios by applying the medium parameter to the case of chemical leaks. Based on the accident scenarios, the objective function is selected so that the velocity of each robot is calculated by attaching importance to each item of sensor detection probability, sensing time and sensing scenario number. We also confirmed the feasibility of this method of reliability analysis for unexpected leak accidents. Based on the above results, it is expected that it will be helpful to trace back the leakage source based on the concentration data of the portable sensor to be applied later.

A Content-based Video Rate-control Algorithm Interfaced to Human-eye (인간과 결합한 내용기반 동영상 율제어)

  • In the general multiple video object coder, more interested objects such as speaker or moving object is consistently coded with higher priority. Since the priority of each object may not be fixed in the whole sequence and be variable on frame basis, it must be adjusted in a frame. In this paper, we analyze the independent rate control algorithm and global algorithm that the QP value is controled by the static parameters, object importance or priority, target PSNR, weighted distortion. The priority among static parameters is analyzed and adjusted into dynamic parameters according to the visual interests or importance obtained by camera interface. Target PSNR and weighted distortion are proportionally derived by using magnitude, motion, and distortion. We apply those parameters for the weighted distortion control and the priority-based control resulting in the efficient bit-rate distribution. As results of this paper, we achieved that fewer bits are allocated for video objects which has less importance and more bits for those which has higher visual importance. The duration of stability in the visual quality is reduced to less than 15 frames of the coded sequence. In the aspect of PSNR, the proposed scheme shows higher quality of more than 2d13 against the conventional schemes. Thus the coding scheme interfaced to human- eye proves an efficient video coder dealing with the multiple number of video objects.

The effect of viewing distance and the speed of motion-in-depth on visual fatigue (시각적 피로도에 영향을 미치는 시청거리와 깊이방향의 운동속도)

  • The present study have investigated the effect of the characteristics of stereoscopic images and viewing environment on visual fatigue. We manipulated the speed of stereo images with motion-in-depth and viewing distance, which were used as representative variables of the characteristics of stereo image and viewing environment, respectively. Visual fatigue was evaluated with use of a subjective questionnaire which is consisting of 5 different and independent factors: "Eye pain", "Visual stress," "Nauseousness", "Body stiffness", and "Blurriness". In general, when viewing time increased from 10 minutes to 20 and 40 minutes, observers felt severe visual fatigue. Among other factors, only the factor score of "Nauseousness" was significantly increased as the speed of object moving in depth became faster. When viewing distance was increased, the score of "Blurriness" was decreased. These results suggest that different kind of the visual fatigue might be induced depending on characteristics of the stereo images and viewing environment.

A Study on the Gaze Flow of Internet Portal Sites Utilizing Eye Tracking (아이트래킹을 활용한 인터넷 포털사이트의 시선 흐름에 관한 연구)

  • This study investigated through eye tracking what gaze path the audience searches through portal sites (Naver, Daum, Zoom, and Nate). As a result of the layout analysis according to the gaze path of the search engine, the four main pages, which can be called to be the gateway to information search, appeared in the form of a Z-shaped layout. The news and search pages of each site use an F-shape, which means that when people's eyes move from top to right in an F-shape, they read while moving their eyes from left to right(LTR), which sequentially moves to the bottom. As a result of analyzing through the heat map, gaze plot, and cluster, which are the visual analysis indicators of eye tracking, the concentration of eyes on the photo and head copy was found the most in the heat map, and it can be said to be of high interest in the information. The flow of gaze flows downward from the top left to the right, and it can be seen that the cluster is most concentrated at the top of the portal site. The website designer should focus on improving the accessibility and readability of the information desired by the user in the layout design, and periodic interface changes are required by investigating and analyzing the tendencies and behavioral patterns of the main users.

A Study on Wearable Augmented Reality-Based Experiential Content: Focusing on AR Stone Tower Content (착용형 증강현실 기반 체험형 콘텐츠 연구: AR 돌탑 콘텐츠를 중심으로)

  • This paper proposes AR stone tower content, an experiential content based on wearable augmented reality (AR). Although wearable augmented reality is gaining attention, the acceptance of the technology is still focused on specialized applications such as industrial sites. On the other hand, the proposed AR stone tower content is based on the material of 'stone tower' so that general users can relate to it and easily participate in it, and it is organized to utilize space in a moving environment and find and stack stones based on natural hand gestures. The proposed AR stone tower content was implemented in the HoloLens 2 environment and evaluated by general users through a pilot exhibition in a small art museum. The evaluation results showed that the overall satisfaction with the content averaged 3.85, and the content appropriateness for the stone tower material was very high at 4.15. In particular, users were highly satisfied with content comprehension and sound, but somewhat less satisfied with object recognition, body adaptation, and object control. The above user evaluations confirm the resonance and positive response to the material, but also highlight the difficulties of the average user in experiencing and interacting with the wearable AR environment.

  • The wall shear stress in the vicinity of end-to end anastomoses under steady flow conditions was measured using a flush-mounted hot-film anemometer(FMHFA) probe. The experimental measurements were in good agreement with numerical results except in flow with low Reynolds numbers. The wall shear stress increased proximal to the anastomosis in flow from the Penrose tubing (simulating an artery) to the PTFE: graft. In flow from the PTFE graft to the Penrose tubing, low wall shear stress was observed distal to the anastomosis. Abnormal distributions of wall shear stress in the vicinity of the anastomosis, resulting from the compliance mismatch between the graft and the host artery, might be an important factor of ANFH formation and the graft failure. The present study suggests a correlation between regions of the low wall shear stress and the development of anastomotic neointimal fibrous hyperplasia(ANPH) in end-to-end anastomoses. 30523 T00401030523 ^x Air pressure decay(APD) rate and ultrafiltration rate(UFR) tests were performed on new and saline rinsed dialyzers as well as those roused in patients several times. C-DAK 4000 (Cordis Dow) and CF IS-11 (Baxter Travenol) reused dialyzers obtained from the dialysis clinic were used in the present study. The new dialyzers exhibited a relatively flat APD, whereas saline rinsed and reused dialyzers showed considerable amount of decay. C-DAH dialyzers had a larger APD(11.70$\pm$1.32mmHg/min)compared to CF dialyzers(4.32$\pm$0.55mmHg/min)(p<0.05). However, there was no observable difference in the UFR between the two dialyzers. Neither APD nor UFR showed any significant increase with an increasing number of reuses for up to more than 20reuses. A substantial number of failures observed in APD(larger than 20mmHe/min)on the reused dialyzers(2 out of 40 CP and S out 26 C-DAK) were attributed to the Possible damage on the fibers. The CF 15-11 HFDs which failed APD test did not show changes in the UFR compared to normal dialyzers indicating that APD is a more sensitive test than UFR test to evaluate the integrity of the fibers. 30527 T00401030527 ^x For quantitative measurement of reflected light from a clinical diagnostic strip, a prototype old reflectance photometer was designed. The strip loader and cassette were made to obtain more accurate reflectance parameters. The purpose of this study is to identify major geometrical differences between Korean femurs 3nd others that we believe belong to Caucasians so that we would be able to get insights into the femoral component design that fits Asians including Koreans. We utilized computerized tomography (CT) images of femurs extracted from cadavers. The CT images were transformed into bitmap data by using a film scanner, and then analyzed by using a commercially available software called Image v.1.0 and a Macintosh IIci computer.The resulting data were compared with already published data. The major results show that the geometry of the Korean femurs is significantly different from that of Caucasians: (1) the anteversion angle and the canal flare index are greater by the amount of approximately 8˚ and 0.5, respectively, (2) the shape of the isthmus cross section is more round, and (3) the distance between the teaser trochanter and the proximal border of the isthmus is shelter by about 15 mm. In this paper, a new method to detect nonlinear propagation characteristics of the internal vibration in the tissue for the low frequency mechanical vibration by using bispectral analysis is proposed. In the method, low frequency vibration of f0( = 100Hz) is applied on the surface of the object, and the waveform of the internal vibration x (t) is measured from Doppler frequency modulation of silmultaneously transmitted probing ultrasonic waves. Then, the bispectra of the signal x (t) at the frequencies (f0, f0) and (f0, 2f0) are calculated to estimate the nonlinear propagation characteristics as their magnitude ratio, w here since bispectrum is free from the gaussian additive noise we can get the value with high S/N. The operating system and database management system were SCO UNIX and SCO foxbase, respectively. For program development, we used Xbase language provided by SCO foxbase. The system connected to our hospital information system via application program interface (API), so the information related to patient and request details is automatically transmitted to our computer.
