Do cultural differences affect moral decisions? Two studies were conducted to investigate whether attitudes of individualism vs. collectivism have an impact on ethical decision making. Study 1 (N=92) showed that utilitarianism was preferred in a situation, in which an intervention resulted in the best outcome (i.e., saving more people's lives), while deontology was preferred in a situation, in which the focus was on negative consequences of the intervention (i.e. personal sacrifices). Additionally, there were differences between the idiocentrics and the allocentrics groups regarding morality aspects. In the idiocentrics group, harm and fairness were regarded as more important than other moral aspects, while in the allocentrics group, not only harm and fairness, but also ingroup and authority were perceived as critical moral aspects. In Study 2 (N=30), after lexical decision tasks were conducted for culture priming, the mouse tracking method was used to explore response dynamics of moral decision processes, while judging appropriateness of interventions in moral dilemmas. In Study 2, in a condition, in which the small number of victims were focused upon, there were more maximal deviations and higher Xflips in the individualism priming group than in the collectivism priming group, which showed that the participants in the individualism condition had more deliberative processes before choosing their answers between utilitarianism and deontology. In addition, the participants in the individualism priming condition showed more maximal deviations in the mouse trajectories regarding ingroup related interventions in moral dilemmas than those in the collectivism priming condition. These results implicated the possibilities that the automatic emotional process and the controlled deliberative process in moral decision making might interact with cultural dispositions of the individuals and the focus of situations.

Recently, many researches about making more comfortable input device based on gaze detection technology have been done in human computer interface. However, the system cost becomes high due to the complicated hardware and there is difficulty to use the gaze detection system due to the complicated user calibration procedure. In this paper, we propose a new gaze detection method based on the 2D analysis and a simple user calibration. Our method used a small USB (Universal Serial Bus) camera attached on a HMD (Head-Mounted Display), hot-mirror and IR (Infra-Red) light illuminator. Because the HMD is moved according to user's facial movement, we can implement the gaze detection system of which performance is not affected by facial movement. In addition, we apply our gaze detection system to 3D first person shooting game. From that, the gaze direction of game character is controlled by our gaze detection method and it can target the enemy character and shoot, which can increase the immersion and interest of game. Experimental results showed that the game and gaze detection system could be operated at real-time speed in one desktop computer and we could obtain the gaze detection accuracy of 0.88 degrees. In addition, we could know our gaze detection technology could replace the conventional mouse in the 3D first person shooting game.

It is a well-known fact that password based authentication system has been threatened for crucial data leakage through monitoring key log. Recently, to prevent this type of attack using keystroke logging, virtual onscreen keyboards are widely used as one of the solutions. The virtual keyboards, however, also have some crucial vulnerabilities and the major weak point is that important information, such as password, can be exposed by tracking the trajectory of the mouse cursor. Thus, in this paper, we discuss the vulnerabilities of the onscreen keyboard, and present hypothetical attack scenario and a method to crack passwords. Finally to evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme, we demonstrate an example experiment which includes attacking and cracking by utilizing password dictionary and analyze the result.
Our research was performed in order to implement a new pointing device for human-computer interactions in a collaborative environments based on Tiled Display system. We mainly focused on tracking the position of an infrared light source and applying our system to various areas. More than simple functionality of mouse clicking and pointing, we developed a device that could be used to help people communicate better with the computer. The strong point of our system is that it could be implemented in any place where a camera can be installed. Due to the fact that this system processes only infrared light, computational overhead for LED recognition was very low. Furthermore, by analyzing user's movement, various actions are expected to be performed with more convenience. This system was tested for presentation and game control.
In this paper, we propose layout based multimodal contents authoring tool for Digilog Book. In authoring step, users create a virtual area using mouse or pen-type device and select property of the area repetitively. After finishing authoring step, system recognizes printed page number and generate page layout including areas and property information. Page layout is represented as a scene graph and stored as XML format. Digilog Book viewer loads stored page layout and analyze properties then augment virtual contents or execute functions based on area. Users can author visual and auditory contents easily by using hybrid interface. In AR environment, system provides area templates in order to help creating area. In addition, proposed authoring tool separates page recognition module from page tracking module. So, it is possible to author many pages using only single marker. As a result of experiment, we showed proposed authoring tool has reasonable performance time in AR environment. We expect that proposed authoring tool would be applicable to many fields such as education and publication.

In this paper, we proposed the skin color based hand and finger detection technology for the gesture recognition in CCTV surveillance. The aim of this paper is to present the methodology for hand detection and propose the finger detection method. The detected hand and finger can be used to implement the non-contact mouse. This technology can be used to control the home devices such as home-theater and television. Skin color is used to segment the hand region from background and contour is extracted from the segmented hand. Analysis of contour gives us the location of finger tip in the hand. After detecting the location of the fingertip, this system tracks the fingertip by using only R channel alone, and in recognition of hand motions to apply differential image, such as the removal of useless image shows a robust side. We explain about experiment which relates in fingertip tracking and finger gestures recognition, and experiment result shows the accuracy above 96%.
Recently, many researches of making more comfortable input device based on gaze detection technology have been performed in human computer interface. Previous researches were performed on the computer environment with a large sized monitor. With recent increase of using mobile device, the necessities of interfacing by gaze detection on mobile environment were also increased. In this paper, we research about the gaze detection method by using UMPC (Ultra-Mobile PC) and an embedded camera of UMPC based on face and facial feature detection by AAM (Active Appearance Model). This paper has following three originalities. First, different from previous research, we propose a method for tracking user's gaze position in mobile device which has a small sized screen. Second, in order to detect facial feature points, we use AAM. Third, gaze detection accuracy is not degraded according to Z distance based on the normalization of input features by using the features which are obtained in an initial user calibration stage. Experimental results showed that gaze detection error was 1.77 degrees and it was reduced by mouse dragging based on the additional facial movement.
In this paper, we propseded the Youngwoo keyboard to help the communication disorders experienced by patients with dysarthria. Existing methods for communication by patients with dysarthria include a letter board with consonants and vowels, a mouse using eye tracking, and communication assistance applications. However, there was a delay of more than 5 minutes per sentence, so there were many difficulties in communication. However, unlike the existing method, the proposed method has been improved so that the patient with dysarthria can communicate by completing the sentences with eye movements. In the conclusion and future work of this paper, the educational use value for Yeongwoo keyboard was analyzed, and it was shown that this training can be of great help to families with ALS patients. The proposed keyboard will be able to improve the difficulties of families by facilitating communication of patients with dysarthria.
'Gesture' is the most intuitive means of communication except the voice. Therefore, there are many researches for method that controls computer using gesture input to replace the keyboard or mouse. In these researches, the method of user detection and main body parts estimation is one of the very important process. in this paper, we propose user objects detection and main body parts estimation method on inaccurate depth information for pose estimation. we present user detection method using 2D and 3D depth information, so this method robust to changes in lighting and noise and 2D signal processing 1D signals, so mainly suitable for real-time and using the previous object information, so more accurate and robust. Also, we present main body parts estimation method using 2D contour information, 3D depth information, and tracking. The result of an experiment, proposed user detection method is more robust than only using 2D information method and exactly detect object on inaccurate depth information. Also, proposed main body parts estimation method overcome the disadvantage that can't detect main body parts in occlusion area only using 2D contour information and sensitive to changes in illumination or environment using color information.
