Evaluation for Installation and Drain Performance of Mountain Side Ditch in Road Cut Slopes (도로 절토사면 산마루측구 배수성능에 따른 사면안정성 평가)

  • Mountain side ditch is constructed at the top of cutting slopes around road and it drains the surface water that flowed from upper part. Mountain side ditch is constructed to keep away the influx of the surface water into cutting faces. However, if Mountain side ditch is constructed on the top of cutting slopes, it is cause of trouble. For example, difficulty of quality control and lack of drainage faculty. Therefore, the faculty and establishment propriety of mountain side ditch are evaluated seriously, according to the condition of ground, topography and rainfall in this paper. Results from the study for the numerical analysis of effect of mountain side ditch indicate that safety factor is enlarged about 3% at rainfall.

  • The purpose of this study was to comparatively analyze the measured values and modelling values when a sample mountain was cut and thereby, assess the fitness of the prediction model. For this purpose, the researcher analyzed the relationship between the groundwater levels measured at 7 monitoring holes set within the area of the underground flow prediction model and the levels of the groundwater monitoring holes before and after mountain cutting. As a result of this analysis, it was found that the MODFLOW program itself was limited and uncertain in terms of calibration of the modelling values. Since the model was based on the assumption that the same amount of rainfalls would permeate into the ground when the sample mountain area was cut up to 50m high, it was deemed inevitable that the result of modelling was different from the actual measurement.

  • Moutain side ditch is constructed at the top of cutting slopes around road and it drains the surface water that flowed from upper part. About 70% of a country is composed of mountains so occurrence of cutting face by road general observation is necessary. Instability of cutting face is increased by permeation of underground water by rainfall the summer, pore water pressure increases. However, moutain side ditch is constructed on the top of cutting slopes has some troubles. For example, difficulty of qualify control and lack of drainage faculty. Therefore, stability variation of cutting slope is analyzed by hydraulic conductivity and construction depth of mountain side ditch and effective depth of mountain side ditch is decided in this paper.

A Study on the Native Environment and Cutting Propagation for the Black-berry Magnolia Vine [Schisandra repanda (Siebold & Zucc.) Radlk] in Halla Mountain (한라산 흑오미자의 자생환경 및 삽목증식 연구)

  • Background: The recent, decline in Black-berry Magnolia Vine (Schisandra repanda; BMV) native to Jeju Island, Korea, has raised concerns about the causes of this decline. We investigated the native environment of S. repanda and evaluated its propagation through cuttings to provide preliminary data for its restoration in Jeju Island. Methods and Results: The native environment of the BMV in the Hallasan National Park was surveyed and the climatic variables (temperature and humidity) were analyzed. The effects of the sex of the donor plant (male/female) type of cutting (softwood/hardwood), and treatment with a plant growth regulator (indole-3-butylic acid/rootone) on the rooting of BMV were investigated. Additinallly, the rooting rate, root count, and root length, as well as temperature and humidity were measured in the vinyl moist chambers. BMV was observed in 63 plants distributed from 567 m to 1,364 m above sea level of the Hallasan National Park. In the cutting experiment, the rooting rate was 71.9%, and it was higer in female plants (75.0%) than in male plants (68.8%). Conclusions: The mass propagation of BMV through cuttings valuable for its restoration as without such safeguard measures, the population could face extinction within a few decades.

  • Continuous road improvement is required by situation that need link between cities by special quality that is our country's topography enemy that most of country have consisted to mountain district. According to this, occurrence of large cutting slope is formed necessarily Cutting slope are very weak real condition because of concentrative downpour and can know easily by example of typhoon Rusa. This study did helpful in slope design and carrying out suitable reinforcing method.

Changes in the Growth , Chemical Composition and Nutritive Yield of Miscanthus sinensis at Different Cutting Dates (예취기시에 따른 참억새의 생육특성 , 성분함량 및 영양소수량의 변화)

  • This experiment was conducted to know what does the cutting date have an effect on the chemical composition and nutritive yield of Miscanthus sinensis, in order to determine the optimum cutting date of the plant when it is utilized as roughage. Miscanthus sinensis growing natively in the summit of Sam Ak mountain(550m above sea level) was cut at 10 days intervals from 25 July to 15 October, 1988. Plant length and dry matter contents were generally increased with delayed cutting date. Crude protein contents of the plant cut on 5, 15, and 25 of September were 5.5, 5.2 and 5.1%, respectively. Cmde fiber contents was similar with cutting treatment and averaged 35.6%. Cmde protein yield was higher in September than in other cutting date. Yield of crude fiber were 8.3, 9.3 and 9.3t/ha on 5, 15 and 25 September, respectively. Ratio of Cmde protein yield to Crude fiber yield on 5 September tended to be higher than on 15 September and 25 September. These results suggest that the optimum cutting date of the Miscanthus sinensis for good quality forage seems early September.

  • Since enactment of the Baekdu-Mountain Range protection law in Dec. 31st 2003, great interest arose in recovery of the natural environment in the Baekdu-Mountain Range. Since the Baekdu-Mountain Range has formed boundaries between different regions and it is the mountain that crosses our country from East to West, there are so many roads that penetrate this area. Slopes made by the construction of roads have poor foundation for the growth of vegetation and it takes a long period to restore only with natural restoration force. For this reason, various methods of revegetation to restore the damages are implemented but until now, revegetation of domestic soil cutting slopes are mainly covered by foreign import grasses to stabilize and cover grounds early. As we depended upon foreign import grasses for slopes revegetation, the landscape did not match in harmony with surrounding vegetation and therefore, we could see that these foreign grasses are withered in 2~3 years after the revegetation works and slopes become barren again. However, currently, there are no applicable standards for designs of green hill, desirable revegetation methods for the hill areas, roads and recovery models. Therefore, in this study, we investigated the status of revegetation plants and revegetation methods for the hill areas of the Baekdu-Mountain Range (azimuth, degree of tilt, and tilted places). Based on this, we attempted to find the desirable recovery models for the hill areas of the Baekdu-Mountain Range.

Study on Analysis for Factors Inducing the Whangryeong Mountain Landslide (황령산 산사태 원인 분석에 대한 연구)

  • Recently, plane failure mode occurred frequently along the bedding plane having low angle dip about 20 degree when cutting slopes were constructed in sedimentary rock region of the Gyeongsang Basin. Landslide of the Whangryeong Mountain which was occurred at Busan Metropolitan City in 1999 belongs to the category mentioned above. Reconstruction for cutting slope of the Whangryeong Mountain has finished in 2000 and final grade of reconstructed cutting slope is 1:2.0. To analyze slope failure mode for landslide of the Whangryeong Mountain, various analyses were performed such as in-situ investigation and test, drilling, laboratory test, aerial photograph interpretation, X-ray diffraction analysis, and slope stability analysis using Stereographic Projection and Limit Equilibrium methods. As the result, it is identified that tension cracks had been developed one year before the landslide took place. The tension crack semis to be formed by merging several joint sets. It appears that failure blocks broke down along the sliding planes of different layers. Risk of plane failure is conformed as a result of stability analysis using Stereographic Projection and Limit Equilibrium methods in case that greenish gray tuffaceous shales, regared as sliding planes, are weathered. From now on, a detailed investigation is needed for the thin layers which is sensitive to weathering, and stability analysis for this layer is performed at cut slope construction site having similar geological condition.

  • Currently, the aircraft industry, aircraft parts as well as airframe have been developed in producing, the aircraft parts and fuselages have been produced the product by cutting rather than forging and casting because of the residual stress and stress concentration. In this study, the aircraft is being used in many parts of aluminium alloy 2024 in wire-cut E.D.M. The selected experimental parameters are peak current, no-load voltage, off time and feed rate. It is found that cutting mountain part on surface roughness of the curve 0.3mm than 0.25mm diameter wire electrode is stable in many uniform distribution.

  • Blasting is a technique for rock excavation: For instance, a rock cutting in a mountain side to prepare a base for a road. The blasting damage affect the rock slope stability. Therefore control blasting must be used. In this study, cutting cases of Sixty-nine rock blasts were investigated. Blasting damage patterns in rock slope and reinforcement methods are studied.
