  • This study aimed to show the chemical characteristics of $PM_{10}$ and $PM_{2.5}$ during Asian dust (AD) events and high PM episodes observed in Seoul. Time-resolved chemical composition of $PM_{10}$ or $PM_{2.5}$ was monitored in 1 hour interval using ambient ion monitor, semi-continuous carbon monitor, and on-line XRF spectrometer at Seoul intensive monitoring site in 2009. Considering that AD events were classified into three different cases according to the source area and pathway, the concentrations of ammonium-sulfate and trace metal components were relatively high when the AD were occurred in Gobi and inner-mongolia and transported across the Bohai bay. In addition, the influence of alkaline dust, which carried from saline land located in the northeastern China, was observed when the AD was originated from Gobi, inner-mongolia, and Manchuria. Except AD events, the high PM episodes observed in Seoul were impacted by various anthropogenic sources such as biomass burning, motor vehicle, oil combustion and road dust.

PMF모델을 이용한 대기 중 PM-10 오염원의 정량적 기여도 추정 (Estimation of Quantitative Source Contribution of Ambient PM-10 Using the PMF Model)

  • In order to maintain and manage ambient air quality, it is necessary to identify sources and to apportion its sources for ambient particulate matters. The receptor methods were one of the statistical methods to achieve reasonable air pollution strategies. Also, receptor methods, a field of chemometrics, is based on manifold applied statistics and is a statistical methodology that analyzes the physicochemical properties of gaseous and particulate pollutant on various atmospheric receptors, identifies the sources of air pollutants, and quantifies the apportionment of the sources to the receptors. The objective of this study was 1) after obtaining results from the PMF modeling, the existing sources of air at the study area were qualitatively identified and the contributions of each source were quantitatively estimated as well. 2) finally efficient air pollution management and control strategies of each source were suggested. The PMF model was intensively applied to estimate the quantitative contribution of air pollution sources based on the chemical information (128 samples and 25 chemical species). Through a case study of the PMF modeling for the PM-10 aerosols, the total of 11 factors were determined. The multiple linear regression analysis between the observed PM-10 mass concentration and the estimated G matrix had been performed following the FPEAK test. Finally the regression analysis provided quantitative source contributions (scaled G matrix) and source profiles (scaled F matrix). The results of the PMF modeling showed that the sources were apportioned by secondary aerosol related source 28.8 %, soil related source 16.8%, waste incineration source 11.5%, field burning source 11.0%, fossil fuel combustion source 10%, industry related source 8.3%, motor vehicle source 7.9%, oil/coal combustion source 4.4%, non-ferrous metal source 0.3%. and aged sea- salt source 0.2%, respectively.

PMF 모델을 이용한 대기 중 PM-10 오염원의 확인 (Source Identification of Ambient PM-10 Using the PMF Model)

  • The objective of this study was to extensively estimate the air quality trends of the study area by surveying con-centration trends in months or seasons, after analyzing the mass concentration of PM-10 samples and the inorganic lements, ion, and total carbon in PM-10. Also, the study introduced to apply the PMF (Positive Matrix Factoriza-tion) model that is useful when absence of the source profile. Thus the model was thought to be suitable in Korea that often has few information about pollution sources. After obtaining results from the PMF modeling, the existing sources at the study area were qualitatively identified The PM-10 particles collected on quartz fiber filters by a PM-10 high-vol air sampler for 3 years (Mar. 1999∼Dec.2001) in Kyung Hee University. The 25 chemical species (Al, Mn, Ti, V, Cr, Fe, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Se, Cd, Ba, Ce, Pb, Si, N $a^{#}$, N $H_4$$^{+}$, $K^{+}$, $Mg^{2+}$, $Ca^{2+}$, C $l^{[-10]}$ , N $O_3$$^{[-10]}$ , S $O_4$$^{2-}$, TC) were analyzed by ICP-AES, IC, and EA after executing proper pre - treatments of each sample filter. The PMF model was intensively applied to estimate the quantitative contribution of air pollution sources based on the chemical information (128 samples and 25 chemical species). 권역별 대기오염물질의 연도별 배출 특성 분석 (Analysis of Annual Emission Trends of Air Pollutants by Region)

  • Using the CAPSS emissions data, we analysed changes and reasons in the annual air pollutant emission trends from 1999 to 2014. The CO emissions in the metropolitan area decreased steadily since 2001, when the latest model year of automobiles and high efficiency fuel were applied. However, other regions have not changed significantly in annual emissions. $NO_x$ emissions continued to increase since 2003, and unchanged after the decline in 2007. $SO_x$ emissions are steadily declining due to the supply of low sulfur oil. The $PM_{10}$ and $PM_{2.5}$ emissions were repeatedly affected by the influence of motor vehicles activities in the metropolitan area. In Gangwon and Chungcheong Provinces, emissions are increasing according to the use of coal in the manufacturing sector. And VOC and $NH_3$ emissions are increasing steadily every year. The major CO emission sources was automobiles in the metropolitan area. However, agricultural residue burning was the biggest CO sources in the Chungchong, Honam and Yeongnam Provinces. The major sources of $NO_x$ emissions differ from region to region. In the Metropolitan area, Honam and Yeongnam region, the truck was the largest emitter of $NO_x$. However, the cement kiln was the largest producer of $NO_x$ in Gangwon region, and the power plant is the largest emitter in Chungcheong Provinces.

PE/$LN_2O$ 소형 하이브리드 시험발사 및 비행궤도 분석 (Launch of PE/$LN_2O$ Hybrid Rocket Vehicle and Analysis of Flight Path)

  • 본 연구는 소형 하이브리드 로켓의 제작 및 발사를 통해 하이브리드 발사체의 기초 발사기술을 확보하는 것이다. 연료로는 HDPE, 산화제는 $LN_2O$를 적용하였으며, 알루미늄 외형재질의 설계 총 무게 12.5 kg, 외경 114 mm, 전장 1.8 m의 소형 하이브리드 로켓을 설계하였다. 로켓의 목표고도는 500 m로 설정하였고, 목표 추력 50 kgf와 연소시간 2.5 초의 연료 그레인 및 인젝터를 설계 및 제작하였다. 발사 후 실시간 압력 및 속도 등의 데이터를 수집하기 위한 데이터 획득장치와 로켓의 안정적인 회수를 위한 스프링-모터를 이용한 사출장치를 제작 탑재하였다. 로켓의 발사는 성공적으로 수행되었으나, 로켓 중량의 증가 및 추력의 부족으로 설계 최고 고도에는 로켓이 미치지 못했고, 로켓의 비행 궤도를 분석하였다.

미국 서부 해안 IMPROVE 측정소에 대한 대기 중 PM2.5의 오염원 기여도 추정 (Estimation of Source Apportionment of Ambient PM2.5 at Western Coastal IMPROVE Site in USA)

  • In this study, the chemical compositions of $PM_{2.5}$ samples collected at the Redwood National Park IMPROVE site in California from March 1988 to May 2004 were analyzed to provide source identification and apportionment. A total of 1,640 samples were collected and 33 chemical species were analyzed by particle induced X-ray emission, proton elastic scattering analysis, photon induced X-ray fluorescence, ion chromatography, and thermal optical reflectance methods. Positive matrix factorization (PMF) was used to develop source profiles and to estimate their mass contributions. The PMF modeling identified five sources and the average mass was apportioned to motor vehicle (35.8%, $1.58\;{\mu}g/m^3$), aged sea salt (23.2%, $1.02\;{\mu}g/m^3$), fresh sea salt (21.4%, $0.94\;{\mu}g/m^3$), wood/field burning (16.1%, $0.71\;{\mu}g/m^3$), and airborne soil (3.5%, $0.15\;{\mu}g/m^3$), respectively. To analyze local source impacts from various wind directions, the CPF and NPR analyses were performed using source contribution results with the wind direction values measured at the site. These results suggested that sources of $PM_{2.5}$ are also sources of visibility degradation and then source apportionment studies derived for $PM_{2.5}$ are also used for understanding visibility problem.

고체추진기관의 유동-구조 상호작용 해석에서 Serial Staggered 기법의 수치 안정성 (Numerical Stability of Serial Staggered Methods in Fluid-Structure Interaction Analysis of Solid Rocket Motors)

  • 본 연구에서는 고체추진기관의 2차원 축대칭 FSI 해석에서 CSS 및 ISS 기법의 수치 안정성을 고찰하였다. 이를 위하여 CSS 및 ISS 기법을 2차원 축대칭 FSI 수치해석 알고리즘에 구현한 프로그램을 작성하고, 이를 ACM 및 BCM 고체추진기관의 복합거동 해석에 사용하였다. 해석 결과들을 비교 분석하여 ISS 기법이 고체추진기관 FSI 해석의 수치 안정성 개선에 효과적인지 검토하였다. 연구결과, ISS 기법을 적용한 FSI 해석은 시스템 시간간격이 작아질수록 수치적 수렴성을 보이며, CSS 기법과 다르게 시간이 진행되어도 수치해의 진동이 발산하지 않는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 이를 통하여 ISS 기법을 사용하면 ACM 및 BCM의 FSI 해석에 CSS 기법을 이용할 시 나타나는 수치 불안정성을 개선할 수 있음을 확인하였다.

뚜렛 증후군 환자에서 자해로 인한 혀 손상 : 증례 보고 (Self-inflicted Tongue Ulceration in a Patient with Tourette Syndrome: A Case Report)

  • 틱이란 불수의적이고 갑작스러운 소리냄과 리듬이 없는 근육의 움직임을 말한다. 다수의 운동틱과 한 가지 이상의 음성틱이 모두 존재하는 경우 뚜렛 증후군으로 분류되며, 운동틱에 의한 자해 행위는 뚜렛 증후군 환자에서 흔히 나타나는 증상 중 하나이다. 본 증례에서 9세 소년이 혀의 심각한 궤양을 주소로 신경정신과로부터 의뢰되었다. 두 달 전부터 시작된 반복적인 혀 씹기에 의해 궤양은 빠르게 진행되었으며, 환아는 그로 인한 식이 및 연하의 어려움을 호소하였다. 우리는 부드러운 실리콘 재질을 이용하여 상, 하악이 분리된 가철성 장치를 제작하기로 결정하였다. 장치의 지속적 사용이 고통을 줄일 수 있는 방법임을 강조하였기 때문에, 환아는 장치 장착에 동의하였으며 잘 적응하였다. 3주 후 혀의 병소가 상당히 개선된 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 현재 구강 내 자해 행위를 치료하기 위한 표준화된 지침은 없다. 따라서 임상가는 약물 치료를 비롯하여 구강 내 장치 적용이나 관련 치아의 연마 등 다양한 접근 방법을 고려하여야 한다.

Lead Pollution and Lead Poisoning among Children in China

  • Lead is ubiquitous in the human environment as a result of industrialization. China's rapid industrialization and traffic growth have increased the potential for lead emissions. Lead poisoning in children is one of the most common public health problems today, and it is entirely preventable. Children are more vulnerable to lead pollution and lead in their bodies can affect their nervous, circulatory, and digestive systems. Children are exposed to lead from different sources (such as paint, gasoline, and solder) and through different pathways (such as air, food, water, dust, and soil). Although all children are exposed to some lead from food, air, dust, and soil, some children are exposed to high dose sources of lead. Significant sources of lead for China's children include industrial emissions (often close to housing and schools), leaded gasoline, and occupational exposure that occurs when parents wear lead-contaminated clothing home from work, burning of coal for home heat and cooking, contaminated food, and some traditional medicines. To assess the blood lead level in children in China, a large-scale study was conducted in 19 cities among 9 provinces during 1997 to 2000. There were 6502 children, aged 3-5 years, were recruited in the study The result indicates that the mean blood lead level was 8.83ug/dl 3-5 year old living in city area. The mean blood lead level of boys was higher than that of girls (9.1l ug/dl vs 8.73ug/dl). Almost 30 percent childrens blood lead level exceeded 10ug/dl. The average blood lead level was higher than that of in 1985 (8.83ug/dl vs 8.lug/dl). An epidemiological study was carried on the children living around the cottage industries recycling the lead from battery. Nine hundreds fifty nine children, aged 5-12 years, living in lead polluted villages where the lead smelters located near the residential area and 207 control children live in unpolluted area were recruited in the study. The lead levels in air, soil, drinking water and crops were measured. The blood lead and ZnPP level were tested for all subjects. The results show that the local environment was polluted. The lead levels both in the air and crops were much higher than that of in control area. In the polluted area, the average blood level was 49.6ug/dl (rang 19.5-89.3ug/dl). Whereas, in the unpolluted area, the average blood level was 12.4ug/dl (rang 4.6-24.8ug/dl). This study indicates that in some countryside area, some cottage industries induce seriously lead pollution and cause children health problem. For the introducing of unleaded gasoline in some large cities, such as Beijing and Shanghai, the blood lead level showed a declined trend since 1997. By 2000, the use of leaded gasoline in motor vehicles has been prohibited in China. The most recent data available show that levels of lead in blood among children in Shanghai decreased from 8.3ug/dl in 1997 to 7.6ug/dl in 1999. The prevalence rate of children lead poisoning (blood lead >10ug/dl) was also decreased from 37.8% to 24.8%. In children living in downtown area, the blood lead level reduced dramatically. To explore the relationship between gene polymorphisms and individual susceptibility of lead poisoning, a molecular epidemiological study was conducted among children living in lead polluted environment. The result showed that the subjects with ALAD2 allele has higher ZPP level, and the subjects with VDR B allele has larger head circumference than only with b allele. In the present study, we demonstrated that ALAD genotypes modify lead effects on heme metabolism and VDR gene variants influence the skull development in highly exposed children. The polymorphism of ALAD and VDR genes might be the molecular inherited factor modifying the susceptibility of lead poisoning. Recently, Chinese government pays more attention to lead pollution and lead poisoning in children problem. The leaded gasoline was prohibited used in motor vehicles since 2000. The government has decided to have a clampdown on the high-polluted lead smelters for recycling the lead from battery in countryside. Recent research activities on hybrid rocket in Japan

  • Hybrid rockets have lately attracted attention as a strong candidate of small, low cost, safe and reliable launch vehicles. A significant topic is that the first commercially sponsored space ship, SpaceShipOne vehicle chose a hybrid rocket. The main factors for the choice were safety of operation, system cost, quick turnaround, and thrust termination. In Japan, five universities including Hokkaido University and three private companies organized "Hybrid Rocket Research Group" from 1998 to 2002. Their main purpose was to downsize the cost and scale of rocket experiments. In 2002, UNISEC (University Space Engineering Consortium) and HASTIC (Hokkaido Aerospace Science and Technology Incubation Center) took over the educational and R&D rocket activities respectively and the research group dissolved. In 2008, JAXA/ISAS and eleven universities formed "Hybrid Rocket Research Working Group" as a subcommittee of the Steering Committee for Space Engineering in ISAS. Their goal is to demonstrate technical feasibility of lowcost and high frequency launches of nano/micro satellites into sun-synchronous orbits. Hybrid rockets use a combination of solid and liquid propellants. Usually the fuel is in a solid phase. A serious problem of hybrid rockets is the low regression rate of the solid fuel. In single port hybrids the low regression rate below 1 mm/s causes large L/D exceeding a hundred and small fuel loading ratio falling below 0.3. Multi-port hybrids are a typical solution to solve this problem. However, this solution is not the mainstream in Japan. Another approach is to use high regression rate fuels. For example, a fuel regression rate of 4 mm/s decreases L/D to around 10 and increases the loading ratio to around 0.75. Liquefying fuels such as paraffins are strong candidates for high regression fuels and subject of active research in Japan too. Nakagawa et al. in Tokai University employed EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate) to modify viscosity of paraffin based fuels and investigated the effect of viscosity on regression rates. Wada et al. in Akita University employed LTP (Low melting ThermoPlastic) as another candidate of liquefying fuels and demonstrated high regression rates comparable to paraffin fuels. Hori et al. in JAXA/ISAS employed glycidylazide-poly(ethylene glycol) (GAP-PEG) copolymers as high regression rate fuels and modified the combustion characteristics by changing the PEG mixing ratio. Regression rate improvement by changing internal ballistics is another stream of research. The author proposed a new fuel configuration named "CAMUI" in 1998. CAMUI comes from an abbreviation of "cascaded multistage impinging-jet" meaning the distinctive flow field. A CAMUI type fuel grain consists of several cylindrical fuel blocks with two ports in axial direction. The port alignment shifts 90 degrees with each other to make jets out of ports impinge on the upstream end face of the downstream fuel block, resulting in intense heat transfer to the fuel. Yuasa et al. in Tokyo Metropolitan University employed swirling injection method and improved regression rates more than three times higher. However, regression rate distribution along the axis is not uniform due to the decay of the swirl strength. Aso et al. in Kyushu University employed multi-swirl injection to solve this problem. Combinations of swirling injection and paraffin based fuel have been tried and some results show very high regression rates exceeding ten times of conventional one. High fuel regression rates by new fuel, new internal ballistics, or combination of them require faster fuel-oxidizer mixing to maintain combustion efficiency. Nakagawa et al. succeeded to improve combustion efficiency of a paraffin-based fuel from 77% to 96% by a baffle plate. Another effective approach some researchers are trying is to use an aft-chamber to increase residence time. Better understanding of the new flow fields is necessary to reveal basic mechanisms of regression enhancement. Yuasa et al. visualized the combustion field in a swirling injection type motor. Nakagawa et al. observed boundary layer combustion of wax-based fuels. To understand detailed flow structures in swirling flow type hybrids, Sawada et al. (Tohoku Univ.), Teramoto et al. (Univ. of Tokyo), Shimada et al. (ISAS), and Tsuboi et al. (Kyushu Inst. Tech.) are trying to simulate the flow field numerically. Main challenges are turbulent reaction, stiffness due to low Mach number flow, fuel regression model, and other non-steady phenomena. Oshima et al. in Hokkaido University simulated CAMUI type flow fields and discussed correspondence relation between regression distribution of a burning surface and the vortex structure over the surface.
