In this letter, we propose a novel approach to detecting and tracking apartment buildings for the development of a video-based navigation system that provides augmented reality representation of guidance information on live video sequences. For this, we propose a building detector and tracker. The detector is based on the AdaBoost classifier followed by hierarchical clustering. The classifier uses modified Haar-like features as the primitives. The tracker is a motion-adjusted tracker based on pyramid implementation of the Lukas-Kanade tracker, which periodically confirms and consistently adjusts the tracking region. Experiments show that the proposed approach yields robust and reliable results and is far superior to conventional approaches.

A laser Doppler vibrometer based on the laser heterodyne interferometry is employed to measure the vibration velocity of vibrating objects. In this paper, we propose a real time analog signal processor of a laser Doppler vibrometer to reduce the degradation of Doppler signals mainly caused by environmental noises. In the proposed real time signal processor of an laser Doppler vibrometer, a pre-processor and a logical motion direction detector are designed to reduce the detection errors of the object motion direction. Also, a noise detection and rejection circuit is designed to reject the unfiltered noises.
After prolonged viewing of a moving pattern, a stationary pattern can appear to move in the opposite direction, a phenomenon known as motion aftereffect (MAE). Unlike the classical explanation MAE was not confined to an adapted region; instead it can spread to an adjacent region, which was not adapted previously. In order to examine the relative locus of the mechanism responsible for MAE spreading, a rotating harmonic spiral pattern was presented as an adapting stimulus within an annulus window, and then the duration of MAE was measured in both the adapted annulus region and the non-adapted inner region. Two different kinds of test patterns were used: the same and mirror images of the original adapting pattern. An interesting characteristic of a harmonic spiral is that the orientation of a contour at a given location is different from thar of its mirror image by 90 degrees, and consequently the adapting effect of local motion detector is not expected to occur in the mirror image. The results showed that MAE duration in an adapted region was longer in the same image condition than in its mirror image condition, while MAE duration in an non-adapted region was not found to be different between those two different image conditions. These results suggest that MAE spreading might be produced by the adaptation of global motion detectors, not by local motion detectors.

Objective: To investigate the efficacy of motion-correction algorithm (MCA) in improving coronary artery image quality and measurement accuracy using an anthropomorphic dynamic heart phantom and 256-detector row computed tomography (CT) scanner. Materials and Methods: An anthropomorphic dynamic heart phantom was scanned under a static condition and under heart rate (HR) simulation of 50-120 beats per minute (bpm), and the obtained images were reconstructed using conventional algorithm (CA) and MCA. We compared the subjective image quality of coronary arteries using a four-point scale (1, excellent; 2, good; 3, fair; 4, poor) and measurement accuracy using measurement errors of the minimal luminal diameter (MLD) and minimal luminal area (MLA). Results: Compared with CA, MCA significantly improved the subjective image quality at HRs of 110 bpm (1.3 ± 0.3 vs. 1.9 ± 0.8, p = 0.003) and 120 bpm (1.7 ± 0.7 vs. 2.3 ± 0.6, p = 0.006). The measurement error of MLD significantly decreased on using MCA at 110 bpm (11.7 ± 5.9% vs. 18.4 ± 9.4%, p = 0.013) and 120 bpm (10.0 ± 7.3% vs. 25.0 ± 16.5%, p = 0.013). The measurement error of the MLA was also reduced using MCA at 110 bpm (19.2 ± 28.1% vs. 26.4 ± 21.6%, p = 0.028) and 120 bpm (17.9 ± 17.7% vs. 34.8 ± 19.6%, p = 0.018). Conclusion: Motion-correction algorithm can improve the coronary artery image quality and measurement accuracy at a high HR using an anthropomorphic dynamic heart phantom and 256-detector row CT scanner.
Near infrared JHK magnitudes are presented for two hundred two high proper motion stars. We have observed high proper motion stars in the near-infrared bands(JHK) using the COB detector on the Kitt Peak 1.3m, 2.1m and 4m telescopes. The observations and data reduction procedures are described. The infrared color magnitude diagram and color-color diagrams for the program stars are presented.

This paper describes a design and implementation of fuzzy-based algorithm for hand-shake state detection and error compensation in the mobile optical image stabilization(OIS) motion detector. Since the gyro sensor output of the OIS motion detector includes inherent error signals, accurate error correction is required for prompt hand-shake error compensation and stable hand-shake state detection. In this research with a little computation overhead of fuzzy-based algorithm, the hand-shake error compensation could be improved by quickly reducing the angle and phase error for the hand-shake frequencies. Further, stability of the OIS system could be enhanced by the hand-shake states of {Halt, Little vibrate, Big vibrate, Pan/Tilt}, classified by subdividing the hand-shake angle. The performance and stability of the proposed algorithm in OIS motion detector is quantitatively and qualitatively evaluated with the emulated hand-shaking of ${\pm}0.5^{\circ}$, ${\pm}0.8^{\circ}$ vibration and 2~12Hz frequency. In experiments, the average error compensation gain of 3.71dB is achieved with respect to the conventional BACF/DCF algorithm; and the four hand-shake states are detected in a stable manner.
In this paper, we propose a novel background segmentation and feature point extraction method of a human motion for the augmented reality game. First, our method transforms input image from RGB color space to HSV color space, then segments a skin colored area using double threshold of H, S value. And it also segments a moving area using the time difference images and then removes the noise of the area using the Hessian affine region detector. The skin colored area with the moving area is segmented as a human motion. Next, the feature points for the human motion are extracted by calculating the center point for each block in the previously obtained image. The experiments on various input images show that our method is capable of correct background segmentation and feature points extraction 12 frames per second.

During the sea trial test for the aerovane in AOE-II, a malfunction occurred in the wind detector movement around 40 to 90° on the starboard side and around 270 to 320° on the port side. The purpose of this study was to analyze and improve the cause of the above phenomenon. The wind detector was covered with a mast structure and was not affected directly by the blowing wind, and a vortex air current was formed behind the mast structure, causing the motion malfunction. The above problem was solved by moving and installing the wind detector on the newly installed mast yard. After conducting vibration analysis and reviewing the effects of vibration, the wind detector was installed in the new mast yard and verified by a sea trial test. Since the improvement plan was slightly effective, the position of the wind detector moved away from the mast on the new mast yard and was re-verified through a sea trial test. The movement malfunction of the wind detector did not occur, confirming that it is an appropriate improvement plan.

The high resolution of positron emission tomography, in particular, requires the use of detector crystals of narrow width but still with sufficiently high detection efficiency. If the crystal width is reduced to several millimeters, degradation of detection efficiency and leakage coefficient becomes significant, particularly in case of obliquely incident photons. Alleviation of such a problem can be made possible by modification of the detector shape from the conventional rectangular type to a wed농e type. The Proposed wedge shape makes the absorption length longer for obliquely incident photons, thus increasing the detection efficiency and suppressing leakage coefficient. For the BGO detectors of 4-8mm width, the computer simulation result of the system using wedge detectors reveals resolution improvement to the system using conventional detectors. For the system composed of 200 BGO detectors of 8mm width with 2 point sampling motion, the simulation resolution system using conventional detectors. For the very high resolution system of 3-7mm FWHM, the characteristics of the detector shape and size is studied by computer simulation.

ATM(automated-teller machine) is a machine that receives and pays money directly. The double bill detector(DBD) module of an ATM detects double bills from its thickness. In this paper, the dynamic behavior of the DBD was analyzed, which cannot be simulated correctly by a package program of SAMCEF. And the displacements of the lever was measured for various bills experimentally. The measured dynamic behaviors were analyzed kinematically using a vector equation and simulated dynamically by the derivation of equation of motion with consideration of damping and stiffness of the DBD and bills. The analysis showed that the spring constant of the system is not so influential, instead, the contact angle between the lever and bill needs to be larger than the existing DBD in order to be laster and reliable DBD.
