  • The Microsoft Kinect is a motion sensing input device which is widely used for many motion recognition applications such as fitness, sports, and rehabilitation. Until now, most of remote rehabilitation systems with the Microsoft Kinect have allowed the user or patient to do rehabilitation or fitness by following the motion of a video screen. However in this paper we propose a smart remote rehabilitation system with the Microsoft Kinect motion sensor and a wearable ECG sensor which can allow patients to offer monitoring of the individual's performance and personalized feedback on rehabilitation exercises. The proposed noble smart remote rehabilitation is able to monitor and measure the state of the patient's condition during rehabilitation exercise, and transmits it to the prescriber. This system can give feedback to a prescriber, a doctor and a patient for improving and recovering motor performance. Thus, the efficient rehabilitation training service can be provided to patient in response to changes of patient's condition during exercise.

  • Biomedical mobile devices for ubiquitous healthcare consist of biomedical sensors and communication terminal. They have two types of configuration. One is the sensor-network type device using wired or wireless communication with intelligent sensors to acquire biomedical data. The other is the sensor embedded type device, where the data can be acquired directly by itself. There are many examples of sensor network type, such as, fall detection sensor, blood glucose sensor, and ECG sensors networked with commercial PDA phone and commercial phone terminal for ubiquitous healthcare. On the other hand, sensor embedded type mounts blood glucose sensor, accelerometer, and etc. on commercial phone. However, to enable true ubiquitous healthcare, motion sensing is essential, because users go around anywhere and their signals should be measured and monitored, when they are affected by the motion. Therefore, in this paper, two biomedical mobile devices with motion monitoring function were addressed. One is sensor-network type with motion monitoring function, which uses Zigbee communication to measure the ECG, PPG and acceleration. The other is sensor-embedded type with motion monitoring function, which also can measure the data and uses the built-in cellular phone network modem for remote connection. These devices are expected to be useful for ubiquitous healthcare in coming aged society in Korea.

  • Recently, distributed compressed video sensing (DCVS) has been actively studied in order to achieve a low complexity video encoder by integrating both compressed sensing and distributed video coding characteristics. Conventionally, a motion compensated block compressed sensing with smoothed projected Landweber (MC-BCS-SPL) has been considered as an effective scheme of DCVS with all compressed sensing frames pursuing the simplest sampling. In this scheme, video frames are separately classified into key frames and WZ frames. However, when reconstructing WZ frame with conventional MC-BCS-SPL scheme at the decoder side, the visual qualities are poor for temporally active video sequences. In this paper, to overcome the drawbacks of the conventional scheme, an enhanced MC-BCS-SPL algorithm is proposed, which corrects the initial image with reference to the key frame using a high correlation between adjacent key frames. The proposed scheme is analyzed with respect to GOP (Group of Pictures) structuring method. Experimental results show that the proposed method performs better than conventional MC-BCS-SPL in rate-distortion.

  • For The Purpose of Pursuing the Simplest Sampling, a Motion Compensated Block Compressed Sensing with Smoothed Projected Landweber (MC-BCS-SPL) has been Studied for an Effective Scheme of Distributed Compressive Video Sensing with all Compressed Sensing (CS) Frames. However, Conventional MC-BCS-SPL Scheme is Very Simple and so it Does not Provide Good Visual Qualities in Reconstructed Wyner-Ziv (WZ) Frames. In this Paper, the Conventional Scheme of MC-BCS-SPL is Modified to Provide Better Visual Qualities in WZ Frames. That is, the Proposed Agorithm is Designed in such a way that the Reference Frame may be Adaptively Selected Based on the Temporal Correlation Between Successive Frames. Several Experimental Results show that the Proposed Algorithm Provides Better Visual Qualities than Conventional Algorithm.

  • Sea ice motion is an important factor for assessing change of sea ice because the motion affects to not only regional distribution of sea ice but also new ice growth and thickness of ice. This study presents an application of multi-temporal high-resolution optical satellites images obtained from Korea Multi-Purpose Satellite-2 (KOMPSAT-2) and Korea Multi-Purpose Satellite-3 (KOMPSAT-3) to measure sea ice motion using SIFT (Scale-Invariant Feature Transform), SURF (Speeded Up Robust Features) and ORB (Oriented FAST and Rotated BRIEF) feature tracking techniques. In order to use satellite images from two different sensors, spatial and radiometric resolution were adjusted during pre-processing steps, and then the feature tracking techniques were applied to the pre-processed images. The matched features extracted from the SIFT showed even distribution across whole image, however the matched features extracted from the SURF showed condensed distribution of features around boundary between ice and ocean, and this regionally biased distribution became more prominent in the matched features extracted from the ORB. The processing time of the feature tracking was decreased in order of SIFT, SURF and ORB techniques. Although number of the matched features from the ORB was decreased as 59.8% compared with the result from the SIFT, the processing time was decreased as 8.7% compared with the result from the SIFT, therefore the ORB technique is more suitable for fast measurement of sea ice motion.

  • Nowcasting algorithms using weather radar data are mostly based on extrapolating the radar echoes. We estimate the echo motion vectors that are used to extrapolate the echo properly. Therefore, understanding the general characteristics of these motion vectors is important to improve the performance of nowcasting. General characteristics of radar-based motions are analyzed for warm season precipitation over Jeju region. Three-year summer season data (June~August, 2011~2013) from two radars (GSN, SSP) in Jeju are used to obtain echo motion vectors that are retrieved by Variational Echo Tracking (VET) method which is widely used in nowcasting. The highest frequency occurs in precipitation motion toward east-northeast with the speed of $15{\sim}16m\;s^{-1}$ during the warm season. Precipitation system moves faster and eastward in June-July while it moves slower and northeastward in August. The maximum frequency of speed appears in $10{\sim}20m\;s^{-1}$ and $5{\sim}10m\;s^{-1}$ in June~July and August respectively while average speed is about $14{\sim}15m\;s^{-1}$ in June~July and $8m\;s^{-1}$ in August. In addition, the direction of precipitation motion is highly variable in time in August. The speed of motion in Lee side of the island is smaller than that of the windward side.

  • We build a local minimum free motion planning for mobile robots considering dynamic environments by simple sensor fusion assuming that there are unknown obstacles which can be detected only partially at a time by proximity sensors and can be cleaned up or moved slowly (dynamic environments). Potential field is used as a basic platform for the motion planning. To clear local minimum problem, the partial information on the obstacles should be memorized and integrated effectively. Sets of linked line segments (SLLS) are proposed as the integration method. Then robot's target point is replaced by virtual target considering the integrated sensing information. As for the main proximity sensors, we use laser slit emission and simple web camera since the system gives more continuous data information. Also, we use ultrasonic sensors as the auxiliary sensors for simple sensor fusion considering the advantages in that they give exact information about the presence of any obstacle within certain range. By using this sensor fusion, the dynamic environments can be dealt easily. The performance of our algorithm is validated via simulations and experiments.

  • To establish of standard technique of nano-length measurement in 2D plane, new AFM system has been designed. In this system, measurement uncertainty is dominantly affected by the Abbe error of XY scanning stage. No linear stage is perfectly straight; in other words, every scanning stage is subject to tilting, pitch and yaw motion. In this paper, an AFM system with minimum offset of XY sensing is designed. And XY scanning stage is designed to minimize rotation angle because Abbe errors occur through the multiply of offset and rotation angle. To minimize the rotation angle optimal design has performed by maximizing the stiffness ratio of motion direction to the parasitic motion direction of each stage. This paper describes the design scheme of full AFM system, especially about XY stage. Full range of fabricated XY scanner is $100um\times{100um}$. And tilting, pitch and yaw motion are measured by autocollimator to evaluate the performance of XY stage. Using this AFM system, 3um pitch specimen was measured. As a result, the uncertainty of total system has been evaluated.
