The Study of Glass Crystallization Mechanism Using Femtosecond Laser Pulse (극초단파레이저를 활용한 유리의 결정화 메커니즘 고찰)

  • To improve the strength of glass is being studied in order to contribute to weight saving of flat panel displays. Generally, the strength achieved of glass-ceramics is higher as is the fracture toughness by the formation of a heterogeneous phase inside glass. In this study, Ag-doped $45SiO_2-24CaO-24Na_2O-4P_2O_5\;and\;70SiO_2-10CaO-24Na_2O-10TiO_2$ glasses were irradiated to strengthen by crystallization using femto-second laser pulse. XRD, Nano-indenter and SEM etc., irradiation of laser pulse without heat-treated samples was analyzed. Samples irradiated by laser had higher value($4.4{\sim}4.56^*10-3Pa$) of elastic modulus which related with strength of glass than values heat-treated samples and these are $1.2{\sim}1.5$ times higher values than them of mother glass. This process can be applicable to the strengthening of thinner glass plate, and it has an advantage over traditional heat-treatment and ion-exchange method.

  • Akali-resistant porous glass was prepared by phase separation in Na2O-B2O3-SiO2 system containing ZrO2 and MgO. ZrO2 was added for alkali-resistance and MgO for anti-cracking during leaching. Optimal content of ZrO2 for alkali-resistance was 7wt% and devitrification by heat treatment resulted from further addition. Pore size and pore volume were decreased and specific surface area was increased with ZrO2 addition due to depression in phase separation. Addition of 3mol% MgO to mother glass containing 7wt% ZrO2 was effective for anti-crack during leaching. In this case, with phase separation at 55$0^{\circ}C$ and 5$25^{\circ}C$ for 20 hrs. crack-free porous glasses could be prepared. The relation between pore size r and heat treatment time t at 55$0^{\circ}C$ was D=25.58+18.16t. According to measurement of gas permeability, the mechanism of gas permeation was Knudsen flow. N2 and He permeability of porous glass which was prepared by heat treatment at 55$0^{\circ}C$ for 20 hrs. were 0.843$\times$10-7mol/$m^2$.s.Pa and 2.161$\times$10-7mol/$m^2$.s.Pa respectively.

  • By adding La$_2$O$_3$ to optical multicomponent glass composition, after making mother glass and core fiber that enable to enlarge the infrared transmittance region, then surveyed the optical properties. Through thermal analysis of the glass abstained by melt-quenching after selecting stable basic composition on devitrification and replace SiO$_2$ by 4-12wt% La$_2$O$_3$. As La$_2$O$_3$ increases up to l2wt% transition temperature, refractive index, density, deformation temperature increased, whereas thermal expansion coefficient decreased. As a result of inspectig transmittance in UV/VIS/IR region, visable region indicated the decrease of transmittance by increasing the La$_2$O$_3$ and transmittance region was enlarged by increasing the La$_2$O$_3$ in IR region. Also, fabricate core fiber at 820$^{\circ}C$ and severy the optical loss we could fact that La$_2$O$_3$ composition added 12wt% showed the minimum optical loss.

  • There is a need to enlarge the mother glass substrate in OLED to raise its productivity and to realize OLED TV. On the other hand, some difficulties may arise regarding the deflection of a large glass substrate during its handling operation due to its thinness $(0.5\sim0.7t)$, which is not even enough to allow it to stand its own mass. This thesis proposes a conceptual plan for the application of the clamping- and bending-end conditions to the glass substrate handler. To verify proposed plan, the non-contact 3 dimensional measuring instrument is developed. The composition of the 3 dimensional measuring instrument measures shape of the product using X-Y stage robot and laser distance sensor. X-Y stage robot and laser distance sensor are controlled by LabVIEW language. To calibrate measuring instrument, the direction conversion of the Euler angle was used. In order to confirm deflection of the glass substrate, the experiment was carried out at the bending end boundary condition and the proposed effect was verified.

  • The crystallization behaviors of slag-based glass in $CaO-MgO-Al_2O_3-SiO_2(-Na_2O)$ system have been studied. The mother glass containing 16.50 CaO, 7.50MgO, 19.70Al2O3, 50.80SiO3 and 2.09wt% $Na_2O$ was prepared by using Korean domestic raw materials such as granulated slag, serpentine, sea sand and etc. The glass-ceramics composed of major crystalline phase diopside was produced by the heat treatment in a temperature range from 850$^{\circ}$ to 9$25^{\circ}C$ for 0-6hr. The composition and morphology of diopside phase formed in the system were examined by X-ray diffraction analysis and electron microscopy. The kinetic measurements such as J.M. A plot and Arrhenius plot indicated that the process of nucleation of the initially formed diopside phase could be described from the view point of instantaneous nucleation. It was also demonstrated that the linear crystal growth of diopside phase was proceeded by short range diffusion of $Mg^{2+}$ and $Ca^{2+}$ ion. The microstructures of the resulting glass-ceramics were consisted of leafroidal shaped crystalline aggregations.

  • In order to reduce the weight of glass in architecture, automobile, bottles, displays, a new technique that can strengthen glass was developed using various method. Generally, the strength achieved of glass-ceramics is higher as is 1.he fracture toughness by the formation of a crystalline phase inside glass. In this study, $70SiO_2-20Na_2O-10CaO-10TiO_2$ glasses were irradiated to strengthen by heterogeneous phase using femto-second laser pulse. Laser pulse irradiation of samples was analyzed by DTA, TMA, XRD, nano-indenter and SEM. Samples irradiated by laser had lower value$(3\~4\times10^{-3}Pa)$ of nano indentation which related with mother glass$(8\times10-3Pa)$ than values. Microcracks were occurred around laser irradiation area when femtosecond laser with the repetition rate of 1kHz was used as the light source to induced heterogeneous phase.

  • Color filter is a fundamental and necessary component to make a full-color TFT-LCD, its quality intensively influence the performance of TFT-LCD in the application of Notebook Computer, Monitor and Television. Color filter in chromaticity also make an effect for human visual system and video enjoyment. Recently, mother glass size is enlarged for demand of large-size panels and new generation color .filter technology for large-size liquid crystal cell panels is also developed. Here, latest generation color filter technology in TFT-LCD will be discussed.

  • This paper will review the state of the latest development of AMLCD manufacturing facilities for large Substrate and discuss the future technologies. The trend of the display size enlargement of Note book PC has hauled the enlargement of the mother glass substrate in past 10 years. The enlargement of a substrate size has brought about the productivity improvement of the TFT panel with process innovation as yet. Will this trend be continuing hereafter too? The issues of the processing and facilities related with the large square substrate and mask step reduction will be overviewed and the future processing and facilities will be discussed.
