  • This study sought to determine wether the reliability of the KIP-C is affected by mothers' scores on of MMPI. Particiapants in this study were 100 mothers whose children visited the a children's psychiatric hospital. They were sorted into two groups; diagnosis consistent group and diagnosis inconsistent groups. the diagnosis inconsistent group showed significantly higher scores on L(p<.001) and K(p<.001) scales, while the diagnosis consistent group had higher scores on F, Ma and Si scales. When comparing the KPI-C of the groups, the diagnosis consistent groups showed significantly higher scores in ANX, SOM and HPR scales(p<.05). A correlation analysis of the validity scales of MMPI and the scales of KPI-C also showed significant correlation. It was also shown that the characteristics of the mothers' personality have important effects on their perception of their children's problems. In particular, the stronger the mothers defensive characteristics, the lower the reliability of their perception of their children's problems. Reciprocally, reliability was higher when the mothers acknowledged their problems.

After collecting the data, we studied the correlation between the two measures. Results : 1. As the Percepted Maternal Love score increased, the Depression and Social Introversion score decreased conversely. 2. As the Percepted Maternal Love score increased, the Avoidant personality disorder score decreased. 3. As the Percepted Maternal Love score increased, Narcissistic personality disorder score increased as well. 4. As the scale of percepted mother's increased, the depressed, socially introverted character, and avoidant personality of the children decreased, and the self-loving personality character increased on the contrary. Conclusions : By the above results, we can come to the conclusion that in order to nurture the children to be self-loving and not to be depressed or intimidated, the mother must try to make sure that her children actually do perceive how much they are loved.

  • Present study investigated the relationship between children's psychiatric disorders and their mothers' psychological problems. Ninety-one psychiatric outpatients from a children's hospital were classified into three diagnostic groups - internalizing symptom group(n=35), externalizing symptom group(n=35), and developmental disorder group(n=21) - based on their psychiatric problems. A normal control group was formed by matching on the age and education of mothers. Mothers' MMPI profiles which were classified into five types - normal, depression, anxiety disorder, somatization disorder, and personality disorder - were examined in relation with children's diagnoses. The profiles of the mothers in the normal control group were mostly normal, while depressive profiles were dominant among those of the clinical groups regardless of the children's diagnoses. Therefore, the data implied association between children's psychiatric problems and their mothers' psychological problems. A possibility of negative reciprocal interactions between children and their mothers was discussed. It was also suggested that further research need to examine the specific effects of children's psychiatric problems on the psychological adjustment of their mothers, as well as the effects of parental psychiatric problems on the adjustment of their offsprings.

  • Objective:Present study investigated the relationship between mothers' self-perception and perception of children's problems. Method:Subjects were 63 children, mothers, who visited child & adolescent psychiatric clinic. Their mothers completed Minnesota Mulpiphasic Personality Inventory(MMPI) & Korean Personality Inventory for Children(KPI-C). Correlation between validity scales of mothers' MMPI and validity scales of KPI-C was analysed, and then we divided subjects into two group(High & Low Group) according to the MMPI validity scales, and compared KPI-C's validity scales by student t-test. Result:There were significant positive correlation(r=.30) between K scale of MMPI and L scale of KPI-C, significant negative correlation(r=-.32) F scale of MMPI and L scale of KPI-C. The Means of T scores did show significant difference according to MMPI F, K scales in KPI-C L scale, to MMPI L scale in KPI-C F scale. Conclusion:These results indicated that defensive mothers tend to perceive her child's problems more defensively. However mothers who exaggerate their problem more severely, do not exaggerate their children's problem. Therefore, these result suggested that we should be careful not to underestimate children's problem whose mother elevated in K scale of MMPI.

Most of the studies on problem drinking focused on socio-demographic factors even though problem drinking is caused by bio-psycho- socio-cultural factors. The current study tried to estimate a logistric regression models including socio-demographic, environmental, psychological, economical, emotional, values, and MMPI factors. The best fit model suggested that problem drinking, which was determined by AUDIT, of college students were related to sociodemographic, environmental, psychological, and emotional factors. Students who were male, whose father, brother or sister had been abused alcohol or drug, students thought that his/her mother had not trusted him/her, who worried about his/her health, smokers, who had strong impulsivity, who had three or more feelings among the sorts of feelings, such as sadness, loneliness, boring making him/her feel to drink alcohol were more likely to had drinking problem. Students who were indulgers-who could not help buying things immediately after they saw goods they like, who were smokers, who had low ego-control, who had three or more feelings among the sorts of feelings, such as become excited, anxiousness, healthy were more likely to be dependent on alcohol.
