The purpose of this research is to establish basic database on Cornus kousa by way of investigation, analysis and comparison of characteristics of leaf and flower, then fostering good cultivar on each morphological characteristics - leaf length, leaf width, petiole length, left lateral vein, right lateral vein. Leaf length and leaf width in Mt. Jiri shows big tendency which is 83.5 mm, 52.4 mm each in comparison with the whole mean of 72.5 mm, 41.2 mm, whereas populations of Suwon and Mt. Halla has leaf length of 66.0 mm, 65.7 mm - 9.8%, 10.4% lower value in comparison with seven mean population; leaf width is 38.4 mm, 35.3 mm - 7.3%, 16.7% lower than whole mean and shows lowest tendency among seven selected populations. Long width of flower and short width of flower in Boeun shows big tendency which is 99.9mm, 96.5 mm each in comparison with the whole mean of 76.0 mm, 73.6 mm, whereas populations of Mt. Halla has 50.1 mm, 48.2 mm which shows lowest tendency. On petal length, petal width and length of flower petiole, Boeun populations have bigger and Mt. Halla shows little tendency. The measurement result of flower colors on each population by using Spectrum Color Mater shows followings: populations of Mt. Duckyoo and Mt. Halla shows lower lightness than any other populations, but wholly shows higher lightness which is refers brightness in seven selected populations. Thus it shows peculiarities of white flower color.
The intraspecific variability, habitats, and morphological characteristics of eelgrass (Zostera marina L.) along the eastern coast of Korea were examined during June to August 1998. Morphological characteristics including shoot height, leaf length, leaf width, number of leaf veins, and shape of leaf apex were measured, and eelgrass habitats were analyzed using character correlation, principal components and cluster analyses. The morphological characteristics varied with the habitat types and water depth. Eelgrass beds distributed mostly in lagoons, ports and bays along the east coast of the Korean peninsula. The quantitative morphological features that enabled recognition of the two phonetic groups were short- narrow and long-broad leaf types. Leaf apex in particular varied with the habitat characteristics.
In order to find useful taxonomic morphological characters, 17 taxa from East-Asia Astragalus and Oxytropis anertii were investigated. In this study, seed coat structure, fruit surface, and fruit anatomical structures were selected to classify the species in Astragalus. As a results, useful morphological and anatomical characters in East-Asia Astragalus were life cycle, leaflet shape, raceme, petal color, seed color, pod shape, absent or present of hairs in pod surface, bent degree of dorsal suture, and thickness of endocarp. Using medicinal sources in China, A. floridus, A. membranaceus, A. membranaceus var. mongholicus and A. tongolensis were formed same group. However, these were not completely consensus in the morphological characters. The other hand, A. koraiensis and A. sikokianus, which have controversial taxonomic issue, have clearly no differences morphological characters each other. Therefore, A. koraiensis, A. sikokianus, and A. bhotanensis should be conducted a comparative study on the DNA sequences and molecular cytology in order to clarify the taxonomic treatments in the near future.
To understand morphological and genetic differentiation between Euphorbia esula and E. maackii we examined 12 morphological characters and 11 isozyme loci from 14 populations of two species. Species of E. esula complex (A = 1.63, P = 44.83, $H_e$ = 0.198) in Korea maintain nearly as high as the genetic diversity reported in East Asian E. jolkinii and E. fauriei while lower than those of E. ebracteolata and E. pekinensis in Korea. Although the ranges of most morphological character variation of the two species overlap, E. esula and E. maackii were well recognized by the combination of the morphological traits, and the result of UPGMA phenogram supports the two distinct species inhibited in Korea. However, isozyme data do not support the recognition of E. esula and E. maackii. The discordance between morphological and allozyme data should be explained by the recent divergence or gene flow via introgressive hybridization between two species.
Bacterial identification was performed with morphological, physiological and biochemical tests to the isolates from the mudflat of 30cm depth sampled in Nakdong river estuary in March and June, 1985. Flavobacterium and Cnterobacteriaceae were regarded as dominants. Pseudomonas, Bacillus, Micrococcus, Vibrio, Aerococcus, Aerononas, Acinetobacter and Staphylococcus were founded in various depth. Vertical composition of bacterial genera in March was more diversiform than that of June. Character analysis was carried out with the calculation of similarity index (S). At a level of 85% similarity, the isolates were clustered into 5 groups and ungrouped 2 strains. Classifying groups of bacterial strains with determination schemes and groups from similarity index were in good agreement.

This paper proposes a method of improving deep learning based numbers and characters recognition performance on parts of drawing through image preprocessing. The proposed character recognition system consists of image preprocessing and 7 layer deep learning model. Mathematical morphological filtering is used as preprocessing to remove the lines and shapes which causes false recognition of numbers and characters on parts drawing. Further.. Further, the used deep learning model is a 7 layer deep learning model instead of VGG-16 model. As a result of the proposed OCR method, the recognition rate of characters is 92.57% and the precision is 92.82%.
Morphological and ecological comparions are made between specimens of Cobitis koreensis KIM and the geographically restricted population of the Cobitid fish which is found along the Begchon stream, Puangun, Cholla-bugdo province over a 12-month period of 1982 and 1983. The Begchon population is tentatively identified as Cobitis koreensis, but the color patterns and two morphometric proportions differ widely fromthose reported previously for this species. In addition to these character, it is easily distinguished from C. koreensis by the smaller body size, by having the larger egg size and the less egg number in female during the breeding season. As the differentiation of this population is primarily due to geographically isolation, it is supposed that Begchon cobitid population may be an undescribed distinct subspecies of K. koreensis or above the conventional subspecies level.
In order to estimate accurate originality of the important crude drugs, Gastrodia, Dendrobium, Bletilla and Cremastra spp. were investigated comparing their morphological, anatomical and physicochemical characteristics and antibacterial, antifungal activities. The results of the studies as follows: 1. In morphological and anatomical studies, Korean Gastrodia contained more mucilage duct and symbiotic fungi than imported Gastrodia. Korean Dendrobium contained starch grains but without starch grains in the imported Dendrobium from China enclosed with thicken silicified wall. The corm of Cremasta appendiculata contained raphides of bundles with mucilage while the bulbs of Tulipa edulis contained several various starch grains form. 2. In physiological and TLC analysis, crude drugs in Orchidaceae contained common constituents with fluorescence and much mucilage. 3. The EtOH extracts of Gastrodia, Dendrobium, Bletilla, Cremastra showed antibacterial activities against B. subtilis and E. coli (Dendrobium>Gastrodia>Bletilla>Cremastra). But, no antifungal activities against C. albicans, A. niger were observed.
Thirty five juveniles belonging to the genus Collichthys were collected using a bag net at Gang-wha-do, in the eastern Yellow Sea, between July and September, 2012, and identified using combined genetic and morphological methods. We sequenced 316 base pairs of mitochondrial DNA cytochrome c oxidase subunit I of 35 individuals, of which 22 individuals were identified as Collichthys niveatus (12.9-47.6 mm in SL) and 13 as Collichthys lucidus (13.4-40.3 mm SL). Morphologically, the number of occipital crests, an important taxonomic character during the adult stage, could not distinguish the two species during the juvenile stage, but the shape of the first anal fin spine clearly distinguished the two species even among juveniles.
Shells and operculums of eight species of Bithyniidae, Bithynia leachi, B. tentaculata, B. siamensis, B. misella, B. kiusiuensis, Gabbia australis, B. manchourica and a Bithynia sp. collected from Nepal, were observed, There is no morphological difference between korean populations of B. misella and a Japanese popualtion of B. kiusiuensis. And the shells of these species were simialr to the other Bithynia species rather than Australian Gabbia. The coordinate of the starting point of nuclear spire of operculum(SPN)was species specific and this value had very limited range within a species. The result suggested that Korean and Japanese populations of B. misella and B. kiusiuensis are synonym and the coordinate of SPN will be a useful character in sytematics of operculated snails.
