  • Congenitally corrected transposition of great arteries is a rare congenital heart anomaly. We experienced two case of corrected transposition of great arteries, one [S,L,L] and one [I, D,D] associated with patent foramen ovale, ventricular septal defect and pulmonary stenosis. The patent foramen ovales were closed directly under right atriotomy, the ventricular septal defects were closed with Dacron patch under morphological left ventriculotomy and the pulmonary valvular and subvalvular stenosis were corrected under pulmonary arteriotomy. The postoperatively course was uneventful in case I, the permanent pacemaker was implanted in case ll.

  • The current study was conducted to examine the temporal and spatial activation sequences related to morphosyntactic, semantic and orthographic-lexical sentences, focusing on the morphological-orthographic and lexical-semantic deviation processes in Korean language processing. The Event-related Potentials (ERPs) of 15 healthy students were adopted to explore the processing of head-final critical words in a sentential plausibility task. Specifically, it was examined whether the ERP-pattern to orthographic-lexical violation might show linear precedence over other processes, or the presence of additivity across combined processing components. For the morphosyntactic violation, fronto-central LAN followed by P600 was found, while semantic violation elicited N400, as expected. Activation of P600 was distributed in the left frontal and central sites, while N400 appeared even in frontal sites other than the centro-parietal areas. Most importantly, the orthographic-lexical violation process revealed by earlier N2 with fronto-central activity was shown to be complexes of morphological and semantic functions from the same critical word. The present study suggests that there is a linear precedence over the morphological deviation and its lexical semantic processing based on the immediate possibility of lexical information, followed by sentential semantics. Finally, late syntactic integration processes were completed, showing different topographic activation in order of importance of ongoing sentential information.

  • Ovarian follicles are faced with one of two fates, atresia or development. Up to 99% of follicles become degenerated rather than ovulated in female life span. Thus, atresia occurs at all stages of follicle development in mammalian ovaries. In the present experiment, the effect of ${\gamma}$-radiation on primordial follicles was morphologically analyzed in a mouse ovary. Thirty-seven percent of the primordial follicles in the non-irradiated control mice ovaries were abnormal. At day 8 post irradiation, most of primordial follicles became atretic. They lost their integrity of architecture in the follicular shape. Then, all the oocytes disappeared from the follicles. And only 3 to 4 granulosa cells lay down onto the basement membrane. Disappearance of granulosa cells or oocytes resulted from the radiation-induced apoptotic process. It is definitely clear that ${\gamma}$-radiation induces rapid apoptotic degeneration of the primordial follicles. The morphological degeneration induced by radiation in the primordial follicles can be used as an experimental model to draw out a deeper insight for radioprotectant researches.

  • Origin of both great vessels from morphological left ventricle [DOLV] is a rare cardiac anomaly which embryologic possibility has been explained by differential conal development concept and differential canal absorption concept. Recently we had surgical experience of DOLV in 4 month-age infant weighing 5.7Kg. The chief complaints on admission were cyanosis and anoxic spell during severe crying, and right heart catheterization and right ventriculogram were performed but incorrect diagnosis was made. The operative procedures were ligation of patent ductus arteriosus, patch closure of subaortic VSD aligning aorta and pulmonary artery with left ventricle, suture closure of proximal pulmonary artery and valve and the use of extracardiac valved conduit [Carpentier-Edward l4mm] from right ventricle to distal pulmonary artery. Postoperative course was uneventful and discharged in the good condition.

  • Three penaeid species, Penaeus monodon, P. semisulcatus and Metapenaeopsis lata are reported from the southeastern coast of Korea. P. monodon and P. semisulcatus have been incorrectly known so far as P. bubulus and P. monodon, respectively, in Korea. M. lata is the first record of this species from Korean waters. Morphological diagnoses are given with coloration and distribution for the three species.

  • This paper suggests a new method of detecting attacks of network traffic by visualizing original traffic data and applying multi-class SVM (support vector machine). The proposed method first generates 2D images from IP and ports of transmitters and receivers, and extracts linear patterns and high intensity values from the images, representing traffic attacks. It then obtains variance of ports of transmitters and receivers and extracts the number of clusters and entropy features using ISODATA algorithm. Finally, it determines through multi-class SVM if the traffic data contain DDoS, DoS, Internet worm, or port scans. Experimental results show that the suggested multi-class SVM-based algorithm can more effectively detect network traffic attacks.

  • Purpose: This study was undertaken to review the precise morphological patter'ns of polydactyly of the foot and to evaluate outcomes of surgical interventions. Materials and Methods: The records of patients who had polydactyly of foot from 1983 to 2000 were reviewed retrospectively. 29 duplicated toes(24 patients) were analyzed. All cases were evaluated and classified with Temtamy and McKusick's axial pattern, Watanabe's morphologic pattern and level of duplication. Clinical evaluation was performed according to Phelps and Grogan's. Mean age at surgery was 5.7 years(range: 10 months$\sim21$ years). All the patients were subsequently evaluated during mean 17 months(range: 13 months-$\sim5$ years). Results: Preaxial polydactyly was seen in 3 cases, central polydactyly in 3 cases, postaxial polydactyly in 22 cases and remaining 1 case was multiple my involvement. Only 2 patients have familial history and the most common associated anomaly was hand deformity(20.8%). Clinical results were excellent in 14 cases, good in 5 cases, poor in one. 17 patients(70%) were operated before 6 years olds and they had better results than those of who were operated after 6 years olds. Conclusion: The Method of surgical correction for the polydactyly should be individualized by its morphological pattern because the purpose of operation was to give comfort in wearing shoes and patient's psychological relief. This study showed that polydactyly of the foot could be corrected surgically with good results in most cases, and the better results would be achieved if the operation is performed before preschool age according to its individualized pattern of duplication.

  • The parents of twenty-five patients with cleft lip(with or without cleft palate), CL(P) and the parents of fifteen non-cleft patients were studied. Area measurements of cranium of brain case from lateral and frontal roentgenograms. The most important finding of this investigation was that the CL/CP parents had a significantly smaller brain case than did the control subjects. A smaller brain case may well be one morphological characteristic predisposing toward the cleft anomaly. The results obtained were as follows, 1) Total area measurements for brain case of parents of CWCP patients were significantly smaller than those in the control group, on the frontal view. 2) A significantly smaller parietal and occipital region on the frontal view vas noted in the parents of CL/CP patients. 3) A significantly smaller parietal region on the lateral view was noted in the mothers of CL/CP patients. 4) A significantly smaller mastoid area on the lateral view was noted in the parents of CL/CP patients.

  • Molar incisor malformation (MIM) has been introduced as a new type of dental anomaly. Currently, the morphological and histological characteristics of MIM are known; however, its etiology has not been clearly identified. To date, the long-term prognosis of first permanent molars (FPM) affected by MIM has rarely been reported, and few treatment guidelines have been established. The purpose of this case report was to present guidelines for the extraction of FPM affected by MIM, depending on the presence of the third molar. In patients with a third molar, spontaneous mesial shift of the posterior molars might be induced by extracting the FPM at an appropriate time, that is, when the second permanent molar is at an early furcation stage of the tooth. However, it is recommended that FPM be preserved for as long as possible if a third molar does not exist. When an FPM needs to be extracted, it is suggested to consider space maintenance.
