  • This paper presents a study on the control of a power quality compensating equipment of electrical railway built in small-scaled to preliminary research. Because this compensating equipment is very complicated power electronics system, consisting of a scott transformer as a power source, four single phase inverters interconnected with DC-link capacitors and various electrical apparatuses, multiple controllers and control algorithms with high performance and reliability are needed. The major function of the compensating equipment is to manage reactive and active powers by using the four single phase inverters, so, the main control effort is focused on the power flow control which realized through the decoupling current control of the four inverters. Overall control system is designed with object oriented and analyzed on a Simulink window. The simulation results show that the design scheme is very effective for a complicated control system and the proposed controller has good performance.

  • A simulation for the design of a $90^{\circ}$ differential phase shifter aimed toward Korean VLBI Network (KVN) 129 GHz band polarizer is described in this paper. A dual-circular polarizer for KVN 129 GHz band consists of a $90^{\circ}$ differential phase shifter and an orthomode transducer. The differential phase shifter is made up of a square waveguide with two opposite walls loaded with corrugations. Three-dimensional electromagnetic simulation has been performed to predict the $90^{\circ}$ differential phase shifter's characteristics. The simulation for the differential phase shifter shows that the phase shift is $90^{\circ}{\pm}3.3^{\circ}$ across 108-160 GHz and the return losses of two orthogonal modes are better than -30 dB within the design frequency band. According to the simulation results the calculated performance is quite encouraging for KVN 129 GHz band application.

  • Experimental investigations were carried out in an atmospheric pressure, optically accessible and laboratory-scale dump combustor operating on natural gas. The objective of this study is to obtain the phase-resolved gas temperatures at different phases of the oscillating pressure cycle during unstable combustion. CARS temperature measurements were made at several spatial locations under lean premixed conditions to get the information on temperature field within the combustor. Also the effect of incomplete fuel-air mixing on phase-resolved temperature fluctuation was investigated. Results including phase-resolved averaged temperature, normalized standard deviation and temperature probability distribution functions (PDFs) were provided in this paper. Temperature PDFs give an insight on the flame behavior. And strong correlation between phase-resolved temperature profile and pressure cycle was observed. Results of the phase-resolved high temperature give an additional information on the perturbation of equivalence ratio at flame as well as the effect of mixing quality on NOx emission characteristics.

  • A new schematic of quadrature voltage controlled oscillator(QVCO) is designed and fabricated. To obtain quadrature characteristic and low phase noise simultaneously, two differential VCOs are forced to un in quadrature mode by using coupling amplifier with a source degeneration resistor, which is optimized to obtain quadrature accuracy with minimum phase noise degradation. The designed QVCO was fabricated in standard CMOS technology. The measured performance showed the phase noise of below -120 dBc/Hz at 1 MHEz frequency offset, tuning bandwidth of 210 MHz from 2.34 GHz to 2.55 GHz with a tuning voltage varying form 0 to 1.8 V Quadrature error of 0.5 degree and amplitude error of 0.2 dB was measured with conjunction with low-lF mixer. The fabricated QVCO requires 19 mA including 5 mA in the VCO core part fiom a 1.8 V supply.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the types and characteristics of elementary school pre-service teachers revealed in the process of resolving the change of lunar phases, which emphasizes the context of actual observation, and to provide suggestions for areas to be considered in the elementary school teacher training program. To this end, we analyzed the 30 pre-service teachers' explaining the observable lunar phases, and the main research results are as follows. First, the phase change of the moon was often explained by introducing the timetable for each phase of the moon rather than based on observation of the phenomenon and scientific reasoning. Second, an alternative concept of the type that the moon is invisible when the sun rises or that the moon can always be observed has been identified. Third, there was a case of explaining that the time and orientation for observing the moon can be observed regardless of the position of the sun or when observing the sun. Also, the date of observing the moon was assumed to be approached by assuming the lunar calendar. Based on the above results, pedagogical implications were discussed.

  • This paper investigates CFD investigation on single phase supersonic nozzle flow and 2-phase subson ic flow prior to rocket nozzle supersonic 2-phase flow with water injection within the flame deflector. Numerical results of supersonic nozzle single phase flow showed no notable unrealistic behavior as it captures the usual shock cell structures. Three-dimensional 2-phase flow analysis has also been performed to verify whether the approach can grab the droplet behavior during cooling by water injection. It is expected these basic studies will enhance the cooling problem analysis of supersonic 2-phase rocket plume in the future.

  • In this paper, in order to obtain a large differential phase shift with a little change in applied voltage, a ferroelectric reflective load circuit has been designed on top of barium strontium titanate $(Ba,Sr)TiO_3$ [BST] thin film. The design of the ferroelectric reflection-type phase shifter is based on a reflection theory of terminating circuit, which has a reflection-type analogue phase shifter with two ports terminated in symmetric phase-controllable reflective networks. To achieve large amounts of phase shift in low bias-voltage range, the effects of change of capacitance and transmission line connected with two coupled ports of a 3-dB $90^{\circ}$ branch-line hybrid coupler have been investigated. A large phase shift with a small capacitance change in the parallel terminating circuit has been demonstrated in the paper.
