  • Monodispersed colloidaly yttria(Y2O3) can be used in a variety of applications such as phosphors. IR transparent materials and fine ceramics. For preparing monodispersed yttria homogeneous precipitation has been regarded as a fovorable method that is monodispersed yttria can be obtained through calcining monodispersed colloidal compound of yttrium (eg:Y(OH)CO3.nH2O)which can be prepared by homogeneous precipitation with urea. It is however still required to find out the quantitative effects of important variables of precipitation such as concentration of yttrium and urea reaction temperature and initial pH of reactant even though homogeneous precipitation of Y3+ with urea has been studied extensively. Among the effects of these variables we investiga-ted 1) the effect of yttrium concentration on the shape and size of precipitate and the reation rate 2) range of yttrium concentration required to make monodispersed colloidal particles 3) the reason for limited concentra-tion range of yttrium and 4) the effect of ultrasonic radiation on the limited concentration.

콜로이드 입자의 자기 배열성을 이용한 Monolayer 형성에 관한 연구 (Process Development of Self-Assembled Monolayers(SAMs) of Colloidal Particles)

  • $St\"{o}ber$ process를 이용하여 단분산 콜로이드 실리카를 제조하였다. 초기물질인 TEOS(Tetraethylorthosilicate)와 $NH_4OH$, 에탄올 및 증류수의 함유량을 조절하여 100 nm급, 200 nm급, 300 nm급 크기의 단분산 실리카 입자를 제조할 수 있었고, 제조된 실리카 입자는 Scanning Electron Microscope(SEM) 및 laser scattering particle analyzer를 통해 관찰하였다. Dipcoating 공정을 이용하여 제조된 300 nm 크기의 콜로이드 실리카의 자기 배열성(self-assembly) 형성에 관한 연구를 진행하였다. 다양한 코팅 공정 변수(표면장력, 표면전하, 입자의 함유량)의 조절을 통하여 dip coating시에 자기 배열성 단층막(monolayer)을 형성해 낼 수 있는 조건을 최적화하였고, SEM으로 관찰해 본 결과, 최적 조건 상태에서 비교적 넓은 영역 (1.5 mm ${\times}$ 1.5 mm)에서 hexagonally ordered packing된 콜로이드 입자 결정 단층막을 얻을 수 있었다.

Electrorhelological Properties of Monodispersed Submicron-sized Hollow Polyaniline Adipate Suspension

  • The electrorheoloRical (ER) fluids are composed of a colloidal dispersion of polarizable particles in insulating oil, and it's the rheological property changes by the applied electric field. These changed are reversible and occur fast within a fewmilliseconds. The ER properties of the ER fluid such as increment of viscosity and yield stress come from the particle chain structure induced by electric fleld. When formulating the ER fluid for a speciflc application, some requirement must besatisfled, which are high yield stress under electric field, rapid response, and dispersion stability. While this characteristic makes valuable ER fluids in valious industrial applications, their lung term and quiescent application has been limited because ofproblems with particle sedimentation. In an effort to overcome sedimentation problem of ER fluids, the anhydrous ER materials of monodispersed hollow polyaniline (PANI) and adipate derivative respectively with submicron-sized suspension providing wide operating temperature range and other advantage were synthesized in a four-step procedure. The ER fluidswere characterized by FT-lR, TGA, DLS, SEM, and TEM. Stability of the suspensions was examined by an UV spectroscopy.The rheological and electrical properties of the suspension were investigated Couette-type rheometer with a high voltagegenerator, current density, and conductivity. And the behavior of ER suspensions was observed by a video camera attached toan optical microscope under 3kV/mm. The suspensions showed good ER properties, durability, and particle dispersion.
