This paper introduces an approach to the realization of an ICT-based bridge remote monitoring system that enables real-time monitoring and controlled adjustments for unexpected heavy loads and also for damaging earthquakes or typhoons. In this paper, an integrated bridge remote monitoring system called the "Intelligent Bridge", which consists of a stand-alone monitoring system (SMS) and a web-based Internet monitoring system(IMS), was developed for not only bridge maintenance but also as an application for a para-stressing bridge system. To verify the possibility of controlling the actual structural performance of an "Intelligent Bridge", a model 2-span continuous cable-stayed bridge with adjustable cables was constructed. The experimental results demonstrate that the implemented monitoring system supplies detailed and accurate information about bridge behaviour for further evaluation and diagnosis, and it also opens up prospects for future application of a web-based remote system to actually adjust in-service bridges under field conditions.
This study presents the data analysis results of groundwater chemistry and the occurrence of fluoride in groundwater obtained from the groundwater quality monitoring network of Korea. The groundwater data were collected from the National Groundwater Information Center and censored for erratic values and charge balance (±10%). From the geochemical graphs and various ionic ratios, it was observed that the Ca-HCO3 type was predominant in Korean groundwater. In addition, water-rock interaction was identified as a key chemical process controlling groundwater chemistry, while precipitation and evaporation were found to be less important. According to a non-parametric trend test, at p=0.05, the concentration of fluoride in groundwater did not increase significantly and only 4.3% of the total groundwater exceeded the Korean drinking water standard of 1.5 mg/L. However, student t-tests revealed that the fluoride concentrations were closely associated with the lithologies of tuff, granite porphyry, and metamorphic rocks showing distinctively high levels. This study enhances our understanding of groundwater chemical composition and major controlling factors of fluoride occurrence and distribution in Korean groundwater.
Recently, the information appliance devices integrating information technology, appliance technology, and communication technology are appeared in home. And this environment requires that the monitoring technology should include the interaction and the real-time controlling among these devices using home network. In this paper, we implemented the active objects for information appliances by applying the Time-triggered Message-triggered Object(TMO) scheme supporting real-time service. Based on distributed real-time services supporting platform using the TMO Support Middleware(TMOSM), we also constructed the real-time information appliance controlling simulator supporting the remote controlling and monitoring service among active objects. The information appliance devices implemented by the TMO scheme can exchange the housing information by autonomous triggering. And we can conveniently reconfigure the executing environment for information appliances when new devices were inserted. For constructing the simulator on the distributed real-time service supporting platform, we described the functions of the active TMOs for information appliances that execute the temperature management, the illuminance management, and the time management controlling services, and designed the remote interaction among them. Finally, by implementing the simulating environment of information appliance devices on distributed platform, we showed whether the procedures of the real-time controlling and the monitoring service for the active objects of information appliances corresponding to physical devices are processed in given executing conditions correctly.

This study was conducted to develop the on-line monitoring system for plant growth responses. The system consisted of two parts. One system was the measuring system and the other was its controlling system. The established measuring systems were the ultrasonic wave sensor driver for height of plant, the potentiometer for diameter of plant stem, and the weighing system with strain gage application for plant weight. Also, computer program for measurement and controlling was developed, and the whole system was tested by the fabricated plant, and the actual plant growth responses were monitored by the system. When monitoring the actual plant growth responses, even the small amount of plant growth resposes could be measured by the system within tolerable error ranges.
In computer integrated manufacturing environment, tool management plays an important role in controlling tool performance for machining operations. Knowledge of tool behavior during the cutting process and effective tool-behavior prediction contribute to controlling machine costs by avioding production delays and off-target parts due to tool failure. The purpose of this paper is to review and develop the tool condition monitoring scheme for drilling operation to assure a fast corrective response to minimize the damage if tool failures occur. If one desires to maximize system through-put and product quality as well as tooling resources, within an economic environment, real-time tool sensing system and information processing system can be coupled to provide the necessary information for the effective tool management. The example is demonstrated as to drilling operation when the aluminum composites are drilled with carbide-tipped HSS drill bits. The example above is limited to the situation that the tool failure mode of drill bits is wear.

Recently, virtual reality (VR) has been actively used in various fields such as education, healthcare, entertainment, and training by providing immersive experiences. To operate multiple VR content programs without assistants and improve training efficiency, remote control of VR content programs within HMDs is necessary. In this paper, we develop management app for remotely controlling and monitoring multiple HMDs. First, we develop a function for HMD devices to connect to the management app. Second, we develop a function for simultaneously controlling HMD devices. Finally, we develop a function for monitoring HMD devices. In order to verify the developed functions, we measured the simultaneous control time and monitoring time. The measurement results showed that control took an average of 0.15 seconds and monitoring took an average of 0.81 seconds.
Because of advanced control technology, Shop floor control system of various kinds of equipment and machinery need a web based remote monitoring to control process efficiently. This paper presents the development of Operation Control System. Operation Control System(OCS) is based on intelligent web monitoring, so that OCS is improved the working condition for the line of heat treatment process and the product's quality. The developed OCS is consisted of Atmega128(MCU) based on embedded system, running the data logging of the line of heat treatment process. Web monitoring system is based on CS8900 ethernet controller and TCP/IP for remote monitoring responsibility between a server and clients and controlling the progress of entire system. The developed OCS is implemented on the line of heat treatment process and shows the improvement of environment condition, product's quality and efficiency of process line.

This paper proposes a remote supervisory controlling system of air compressor that is controlled by 80196KC microprocessor. In proposed monitoring system, air compressor located in long distance can be controlled In any condition by RS-232 serial communication. Change of data and abnormal signal of it can be also obtained. The validity of the proposed monitoring system is verified through digital simulations and experiments for air compressor driven by induction motor.
A remote monitoring system was developed to improve inconveniences of manual work such as monitoring street lights by using current sensors, microprocessor and RF communication system. In order to control the street lights on the roads effectively and monitor them in real time, we can attach current sensor to the street lights which monitors Lamp, the broken part and state of the Balast, and the amount of an electric leak precisely we developed a system which makes it possible to transmit the data on monitoring results in breakdown of street lights and Balasts to the central monitoring computer without setting up extra data transmission line. The system we devised can transmit data through Power Line Modem and RF communication using relay method to the central controlling computer without any loss of data.
In this paper, "The PLC Controlling on Web Browser" is designed and implemented to remote control and to monitor FA system. Protocol bidirectional communication with PLC is written and sotted. Then Administration system sets Web server and JAVA Sevelet Program. The client system located at the monitoring Web browser are a JAVA Sevelet base system, and sends some commands to the server system which guards and controls the PLC system. The commands are delivered to the server system and the driver software exists in the server controls the PLC system directly.
