  • Questionnaires were distributed to Radiology departments at hospitals with 300 sickbeds throughout the Pohang region of North Gyeongsang Province concerning awareness and performance levels of infection control. The investigation included measurements of the pollution levels of imaging equipment and assistive apparatuses in order to prepare a plan for the activation of prevention and management of hospital infections. The survey was designed to question respondents in regards to personal data, infection management prevention education, and infection management guidelines. The ATP Public Heath Monitering System was used to measure seven items for pollution levels of imaging equipment and assistive apparatuses in the Radiology Department. Data was analysed using SPSS version 12.0 for paired t-test and Pearson coefficient with a statistically significant level of 0.05. The results of the survey showed a total awareness level of infection management prevention education averaged at $3.73{\pm}0.64$ and performance levels resulted at $3.39{\pm}0.83$ which were statistically significant (p = 0.01). Also the measurements of pollution levels for equipment with high patient contact showed a Pearson Coefficient of over 0.5 implying a focus on pathogenic bacterium. There was no statistical significance with the frequency of imaging (p < 0.05). Therefore for general hospitals with high patient contact, there is a need to supply analyzing equipment for real time monitoring and the implementation of disinfection management that uses a Ministry of Health and Welfare approved antiseptic solution twice every minute.

  • In recent years, an ingress of mass jellyfish into cooling water intake system causes interruption of electric power production at the Uljin nuclear power plant. Therefore, monitering and forecast on the mass ingress of marine organisms are demanded as one of the early preventing measurements. Sea water movement is a major factor on the ingress of marine organisms like Moon jellyfish which has weak self-mobile ability. When sea surface flow direction adjacent to the Uljin is the northwest, the jellyfish on the Tsushima warm currents move to the Uljin power plant. To detect the direction of sea surface warm flows, the spatial range with $25km{\times}25km$ is set up and NOAA sea surface temperature(SST) data are collected in this area. For the statistical analysis, the SST data are made as GIS point data and geostatistical analysis of ArcGIS is used. Analyzing directional semivariogram, the anisotropy of the SST point data are calculated and warm flow direction is detected. This experimental results are expected to use as an element technology for the early warning system development of mass jellyfish ingress in power plant.

  • Particulate matters of PM2.5, particularly focusing on 0.1~1 ㎛ decrease the efficiency of dust-collector due to the brownian-motion. This study is to verify the effect of coagulant on the particle size distributions of potassium and PM2.5. The activated coagulant was spayed to the coal fired fluidized bed combustion boiler by the weight ratio of 1,200 : 1 = coal : coagulant, and the size distributions of captured particles at both the cyclone (FP) and electrostatic precipitator (EP) were measured. As the result of XRP analysis, the potassium content of FP increased to 13.33% (averagely from 1.65% to 1.87%) and, in EP at 17.68% (averagely from 1.65% to 2.03%). And it was confirmed by the particle size distribution analyzer and SEM image analysis that the distribution rates of PM2.5 decreased at 89.53% on average in FP, and at 88.57% in EP. The total dust concentration (mg/㎥) confirmed by tele-monitering system (TMS) decreased during the primary test from 2.6 to 1.7~1.9 and also the secondary test from 2.9 to 1.7~1.9.

  • In wireless sensor networks, a moving object tracking scheme is one of core technologies for real applications such as environment monitering and enemy moving tracking in military areas. However, no works have been carried out on processing the failure of object tracking in sparse sensor networks with holes. Therefore, the energy consumption in the existing schemes significantly increases due to plenty of failures of moving object tracking. To overcome this problem, we propose a novel moving object tracking scheme based on polynomial regression prediction in sparse sensor networks. The proposed scheme activates the minimum sensor nodes by predicting the trajectory of an object based on polynomial regression analysis. Moreover, in the case of the failure of moving object tracking, it just activates only the boundary nodes of a hole for failure recovery. By doing so, the proposed scheme reduces the energy consumption and ensures the high accuracy for object tracking in the sensor network with holes. To show the superiority of our proposed scheme, we compare it with the existing scheme. Our experimental results show that our proposed scheme reduces about 47% energy consumption for object tracking over the existing scheme and achieves about 91% accuracy of object tracking even in sensor networks with holes.

  • VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) have adverse effects on human health and have caused serious global air pollution problems such as ozone depletion and cimate changes. The total of 56 target VOCs were selected to be monitored in this study for 4 years (2006~2009). The VOCs were measured every hour. The concentration of BTEX was higher than the other target compounds. Generally, the levels of VOCs measured in this study were higher than those measured by the other studies because Gamjeon and Jangrim monitering sites are located in industrial areas. The seasonal variations showed that the VOCs were the highest in winter. The temporal variations showed that the VOCs were high during commuting time on weekday. PMF model was used to resolve source types and source contributions of VOCs in this study. Identified sources and quantified contributions resolved by PMF were vehicle exhaust (15.22%), thinning solvent (29.83%), surface coating (17.13%), industries (13.95%), LPG vehicle (15.22%), combustion boiler (7.11%) and biogenic source (6.61%). Thinning solvent and Surface coating were the most contributed sources possibly due to manufactures and automobile garages in Gamjeon and solvent and paint manufactures in Sasang-Gu.

  • Radon is a natural radionuclide originated from radioactive decay of radium in rocks and soil. It is colorless, odorless and tasteless elements that mainly distributed as gaseous phase in soil pore space. The present study analyzed the characteristics of long-term radon variation in granitic residual soil at Mt. Guemjeong in Guemjeong-gu, Busan and determined the effects of atmospheric temperature, rainfall and soil temperature and moisture. Periodic measurements of radon concentrations in soil gas were conducted by applying two types of in-situ monitoring methods (chamber system and tubing system). Radon concentration in soil gas was highest in summer and lowest in winter. The variations in soil temperature and atmospheric temperature were most effective factors in the long-term radon variations and showed positive co-relations. The air circulation between soil air and atmosphere by the temperature difference between soil and atmosphere was analyzed a major cause of the variation. However, other factors such as atmospheric pressure, rainfall and soil moisture were analyzed relatively less effective.

  • Previous management for speed in road traffic system was aimed only to the improvement of mobility and safety. However, consideration for the aspect of environment and energy consumption efficiency was valued less than the former ones. Nevertheless, economical damage scope caused by climate change has been increasing and it is estimated that environmental value will be increased because of the change of external circumstances. In addition, policy for reducing carbon emission in transportation system was assessed as insufficient in improving the condition of traffic road since it only focused on the transition of private vehicle into public transportation and development of eco-friendly car. Now it is the time to prepare for the adaptation strategy and precaution for the increased number of private vehicle in Korea. For this, paradigm shift in traffic operation which includes the policy not only about the mobility but also about caring environment would be needed. It is needed to be able to monitor the actual amount of greenhouse gas in real time to reduce the amount of emitted greenhouse gas in the aspect of traffic management. In this research, a methodology which can build on-line greenhouse gas emission monitoring system by using real time traffic data and predicting the circumstance in next 5 minutes was suggested.

  • As part of the SPVS (Short-Period Variability Survey) which is a wide-field $(90'{\times}60')$ photometric monitering program at Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy (BOAO), we performed V band time-series CCD photometric observations ofthe young open cluster NGC 129 for 11 nights between October 12, 2004 and November 3, 2005 using the 155mm refractor equipped with $3K{\times}2K$ CCD camera. From the observation we obtained 2400 V band CCD frames and color-magnitude diagram of the cluster. To transform instrumental magnitude to standard magnitude, we applied ensemble normalization technique to all observed time-series data. After the photometric reduction process, we examined variations of 9537 stars. As a result, sixty six of the new variable stars were discovered. To determine the periods of the sevariables, we used DFT(Discrete Fourier Transform) and phase-matching technique. According to light curve shape, period, amplitude and the position on a C-M diagram, we classified these variables as 9 SPB type, 9 ${\delta}$ Scuti type, 29 eclipsing, 17 long term variables. However, two of them were not classified. From this study, we learned that small telescopes could be a very useful tool to observe variable stars in the open cluster in survey program.

  • This paper investigated the plant and raw material of the ready-mixed concrete company which could supply to the second Lotte World on Pusan. the results were summarized as following. Almost plants were mainly using Twin shaft mixer which was 210m$^3$/hr and horizontal type. There was different the number of admixture silos at each plants, and they were separated by types. The mixtures mainly consisted of the ordinary portland cement, fly ash and blast furnace slag. For favorable quality control, each materials had to carry from same factories, and the monitering standard for quality control should be prepared. The coarse aggregates were used with many different producing districts, so they were only used from Y caused by exclusion of quality difference. The crushed, washed and river sands were generally used as fine aggregates, so the fine aggregates which could be possible to supply stable quality were chosen. This study used Poly Carbonic Acid Admixture which was developed to satisfy maintenance of performance till 2 hours and 10MPa at 15 hours.
