직접압연 공정에서 품질계측을 위한 공정변수의 선정 (Determination of the process variables for quality monitoring in direct rolling processes)

  • Recently, direct rolling process, called as strip casting process, has been interested in to save production cost by reducing forming processes. In direct rolling process, since a steel strip of thickness 1-5(mm) can be produced directly from molten metal, it can eliminate secondary hot rolling process. On the other hand, since many process variables are existed in this process and relation of these variables is very complex, it is difficult to realize the process design and the quality control. In this paper, as first step to overcome above difficulties, the quantitative relationship of the process variables affected to quality of the strip has been carried out through the numerical analysis. Also, we determined the process variable to monitor the quality in the direct rolling process. As a result, we show that the solidification final point, called as Nip point, was related directly to quality of the strip.

  • Recently,direct rolling process has been drawing increasing interests because production cost be greatly reduced by eliminating subsequent hot rolling processes. Such a process has been characterized to prosuce thin steel strip (thickness 1~5mm) directly from molten metal and to skip over the conventional hot rolling processes. However, since there are several process parameters, which affect the quality of product,and their relationship between the parametersare very complex,it is therefore very difficult to realize the process design and the quality control. To overcome these difficulties quantitative relationship between the parameters are investigated through a numerical analysis. Form these results, it is found that solidification final point is the most important paramter which is critical to quality of the strip. Also,the multiple regression model is obtianed to determine their relationship from the solidification final point and roll separating force which can be easily estimated

용융철에서 알루미늄 탈산 생성 개재물의 형상 (Morphology of the Inclusion as the Al Deoxidation Product of Molten Iron)

  • To investigate inclusions(oxides) which cause some trouble in the quality of the metal and a steel-making process, samples were manufactured. The molten irons were deoxidized using Al deoxidizer, and the morphology of the deoxidation products and the process of deoxidation were investigated by optical microscope, scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer(EDS). The reactions between Fe melt and Al deoxidizer formed deoxidation product, and those reaction may accelerates the reduction of oxide in Fe melt. According to the results of SEM analysis after deoxidizing treatment, it was found that deoxidation products had spherical cluster shape when 1% Al was added and dendritic shape with $2{\sim}3%$ A1 addition. The deoxidation products were globular, dendritic, polygonal(square) and cluster shape.

턴디쉬용 MgO Coating 재의 손상에 미치는 Flux의 영향 (Effect of Fluxes on the Wear of MgO Coating Materials for Tundish)

  • The effects of fluxes on MgO coating materials for tundish were investigated. As the number of charge in continuous casting was increased, the basicity of tundish slag was decreased due to the increase of silica formed by dissolution from rice hull. As a result, the wear of magnesia lining was increased. In aggregates of MgO coating materials, magnesioferrite was formed by the reaction between magnesia and ferric oxide formed by the oxidation of molten steel, while matrix parts of MgO coating materials were worn by CaO-Al2O3-SiO2 compounds. Silica in rice hull extracted to the molten slag reduced basicity of slag and formed forsterite in the result of its reaction with magnesia lining. Also, fayalite was formed from the reaction between silica and ferric oxide and it caused the increment of magnesia lining's wear. The wear of magnesia lining by flux of CaO-SiO2 was larger than that of Cao-Al2O3 and calcia in the flux increased the wear of magnesia lining through the formation of rankinite.

The Corrosion Behavior of Li/K Carbonate Melts with CaCO3 Additives on Separator Plate in the Molten Carbonate Fuel Cell in the Anode Environments

  • High temperature corrosion behavior of AISI-type 316L stainless steel for the MCFC(molten carbonate fuel cell) bipolar application was studied by immersion test and penetration attack method in anode environment ($650^{\circ}C$, $Li_2CO_3/K_2CO_3=62/38$ mol%, $H_2/CO_2=80/20$ vol%) without or with different $CaCO_3$ content. Not only immersion test method but also morphological observation of samples in the carbonate melts are adopted as experimental methods. With aid of the morphological observation of cross section of samples immersed in a carbonate melt was possible to obtain penetration attack. The concentration effect of $CaCO_3$ inhibitor was investigated in order to verify the optimum concentration for practical application in MCFC stack operation. The corrosion rate in the presence of $CaCO_3$ was proven to be decreased as a function of $CaCO_3$ concentration. The corrosion rate in the presence of $CaCO_3$ was measured with a value of 6.9 mpy which is 2.4 times lower than that of inhibitor-free electrolyte. The cross section microscopy revealed that the internal penetration by oxidation in molten carbonate is very severe. In this case, the attack was occurred not only dissolution loss in the electrolyte by corrosion reaction but also weight gain through oxide layer by internal penetration.

LiCl-Li2O 용융염에서 Inconel 합금 및 Incoloy 800H의 고온 부식거동 (Hot Corrosion Behavior of Inconel Alloys and Incoloy 800H in Molten LiCl-Li2O Salt)

  • A study on the corrosion behavior of Inconel alloys and Incoloy 800H in molten salt of LiCl-$Li_2O$ was investigated at $650^{\circ}C$ for 24-312 hours in an oxidation atmosphere. The order of the corrosion rate was Inconel 600 < Inconel 601 < Incoloy 800H < Inconel 690. Inconel 600 showed the best performance suggesting that the content of Fe, Cr and Ni are the important factor for corrosion resistance in hot molten salt oxidation conditions. The corrosion products of Inconel 600 and Inconel 601 were $Cr_2O_3$ and $NiFe_2O_4$, In case of Inconel 690, a single layer of $Cr_2O_3$ was formed in the early stage of corrosion and an outer layer of $NiFe_2O_4$ and inner layer of $Cr_2O_3$ were formed with an increase of corrosion time. In the case of Incoloy 800H, $Cr_2O_3$ and $FeCr_2O_4$ were observed. Most of the outer scale of the alloys was observed to be spalled from the results of the SEM analysis and the unspalled scale which adhered to the substrate was composed of three layers. The outer layer, the middle one, and the inner one were Fe, Cr, and Ni-rich, respectively. Inconel 600 showed localized corrosion behavior and Inconel 601, 690 and Incoloy 800H showed uniform corrosion behavior. Ni improves the corrosion resistance and too much Cr and/or Fe content deteriorates the corrosion resistance.

용융탄산염내에서의 NiAl합금의 내식성에 미치는 Yttrium의 첨가 영향 (The Effect of Yttrium on Corrosion Behavior of NiAl Intermetallic Compound in the Molten Carbonate Salt)

  • 용융탄산염 연료전지는 $650^{\circ}C$의 부식성이 강한 용융탄산염내에서 작동되므로, 분리판 재료로 사용되고 있는 316L 스테인레스강의 부식은 용융탄산염 연료전지의 수명을 단축시키는 주요한 원인이다. 특히 분리판 wet-seal부의 부식은 보다 심각한 것으로 알려져 있다. 이를 해결하기 위하여 AI계 합금이 피복재료로 사용되어 왔지만, 본 연구에서는 보다 우수한 분리판 wet-seal부의 내식 피복재료 개발을 위하여 피복재료인 NiAI 합금에 산화 활성화 원소인 yttrium을 최고 1.5 at%까지 첨가하였다. $650^{\circ}C$의 용융탄산염내에서 yttium 함량에 따른 NiAI/Y 합금의 침지부식실험 및 분극실험을 통하여 내식성을 평가하고 부식 억제를 위해 가장 적절한 NiAI/Y 피복 재료의조성을 결정한 결과 최소의 yttrium 조성은 0.7 at% 임을 알 수 있었다.

  • As-casted high nitrogen alloys (Fe-25%Mn-12%Cr-1%Ni) have been investigated to study core material. Nitrogen concentration in molten alloys was increased with increasing the square root of nitrogen gas pressure in melting chamber. This result can be explained by Sievert's law. Nitrogen that dissolved as a interstital solid solution element in austenite stainless steel increased lattice parameter and hardness. Electric resistivity($\rho$) was increased with increasing nitrogen concentration and was about $80{\mu}{\Omega}cm$ at room temperature. Coefficient of linear thermal expansion of the nitrogen steel was about $22{\times}10^{-6}/^{\circ}C$.

  • Using the are ion plating(AIP) process, TiN coating was deposited onto high speed steel substrates. The effects of coating thickness, titanisum interlayer and shield on wear resisting capability of the coated tools were investigated. In order to promote good adhesion between the substrate and the TiN coating a thin Ti interlayer was deposited. A shield was set up also between Ti target and high speed steel substrates to prevent molten droplets from reaching the substrate. Three series of varying thickness of TiN coated layer were prepared with or without the Ti interlayer, and with or without the shield. The tools with the Ti layer and the shield showed longer tool lifes than those of other series of tools and the commercially available TiN coated HSS tools, by up to 70%.

열간금형용강의 희토류붕화처리에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Rare-earth Boronizing Treatment of STD 61 Steel)

  • The boronizing effects of STD 61 steel have been studied on the micro structure and hardness. The STD 61 Steel was soaked in molten salt, consisted of KCl, $BaCl_2$, NaF, $B_2O_3$, FeB, and Ce, at various temperatures and times. The boronizing conditions for the peak hardness were the temperature range of $900^{\circ}C$ to $950^{\circ}C$ for 5 hr and that of $1000^{\circ}C$ for 3 hr, respectively. Four boride layers such as FeB, $Fe_2B$, ${\alpha}$ and matrix layer surface were observed from the microscopic surface examination. The thickness of boride layer was increased by increasing the boronizing time and the temperature. The structure of boride layer was tooth shape.
