아연-0.2%알루미늄합금 용융도금액 중에서 용사층의 내구성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Durability of Sprayed Coating Layer in the Molten Zn-0.2% Al Alloy Bath)

  • Sink roll has been used in molten Zn-0.2%Al alloy bath of continuous galvanizing line in sinking and stabilizing process of the steel strip in molten metal bath. In this process, although the scraper scraps off the sink roll surface, the dross compounds is builded up on the sink roll surface and the life time of the sink roll is shorten by the dross compounds. The present study was investigated the application of the spray coating layer on sink roll body for improving durability In molten Zn-0.2%Al alloy. Through the durability tests in molten Zn-0.2%Al alloy with various ceramic and cermet coating layer, the optimum bond and top coating material was obtained. As the results, the system of STS430F base metal, WC-l7Co bond and $ZrO_2-SiO_2$ top coating was clarified to be the best quality of durability in molten Zn-0.2%Al alloy.

  • The infiltration behavior of molten Al-alloy, microstructures, hardness, and the interfacial reactions of $SiC_p/Al$ composites fabricated by the pressureless infiltration technique were investigated. It was made clear that both the weight fraction of SiC reinforcement and additive Mg content considerably influenced on the infiltration behavior of the molten Al-alloy matrix. Complete infiltration of molten Al-alloy achieved under the conditions that weight fraction of SiC content is more than 30wt%, and additive Mg content is more than 9wt%. Interfacial region of Al-alloy matrix and SiC reinforcement phase, $Mg_2Si$ was formed by the reaction between Mg and SiC. Another reaction product AlN was also formed by the reaction between Al-alloy matrix and gas atmosphere nitrogen.

  • Sink roll has been used in molten 55%Al-Zn alloy bath of continuous galvanizing line for sinking and stabilizing working steel strip in molten metal bath. In the process, the sink roll body inevitably build up dross compounds and pitting on the sink roll surface during 55%Al-Zn alloy coated strip production, and the life time of the sink roll is shorten by build up dross compounds and pitting. The present study examined the application of thermally sprayed ceramic coatings method on sink roll body for improving erosion resistance at molten 55% Al-Zn pool. In this experiment, the stainless steels such as STS 316L and STS 430F were used as the substrate materials. The CoNiCr and WE-Co powder were selected as bond coating materials. Moreover $Al_2O_3-ZrO_2-SiO_2 and ZrO_2-SiO_2$ powders selected as the top coating materials. Appearances of the specimens before and after dipping to molten 55%Al-Zn pool were compared and analyzed. As a result of this study, STS430F of substrate, WC-Co of bond spray coatings, $ZrO_2-SiO_2$ power of top spray coatings is the best quality in erosion resistance test at molten 55%Al-Zn pool

  • Medium carbon steel was aluminized by hot dipping into molten Al or Al-1%Si baths. After hot-dipping in these baths, a thin Al-rich topcoat and a thick alloy layer rich in $Al_5Fe_2$ formed on the surface. A small a mount of FeAl and $Al_3Fe$ was incorporated in the alloy layer. Silicon from the Al-1%Si bath was uniformly distributed throughout the entire coating. The hot dipping increased the microhardness of the steel by about 8 times. Heating at $700-1000^{\circ}C$ however decreased the microhardness through interdiffusion between the coating and the substrate. The oxidation at $700-1000^{\circ}C$ in air formed a thin protective ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ layer, which provided good oxidation resistance. Silicon was oxidized to amorphous silica, exhibiting a glassy oxide surface.

  • 용융탄산염 연료전지는 $650^{\circ}C$의 부식성이 강한 용융탄산염내에서 작동되므로, 분리판 재료로 사용되고 있는 316L 스테인레스강의 부식은 용융탄산염 연료전지의 수명을 단축시키는 주요한 원인이다. 특히 분리판 wet-seal부의 부식은 보다 심각한 것으로 알려져 있다. 이를 해결하기 위하여 AI계 합금이 피복재료로 사용되어 왔지만, 본 연구에서는 보다 우수한 분리판 wet-seal부의 내식 피복재료 개발을 위하여 피복재료인 NiAI 합금에 산화 활성화 원소인 yttrium을 최고 1.5 at%까지 첨가하였다. $650^{\circ}C$의 용융탄산염내에서 yttium 함량에 따른 NiAI/Y 합금의 침지부식실험 및 분극실험을 통하여 내식성을 평가하고 부식 억제를 위해 가장 적절한 NiAI/Y 피복 재료의조성을 결정한 결과 최소의 yttrium 조성은 0.7 at% 임을 알 수 있었다.

Effects of Coating Materials on Fluidity and Temperature Loss of Molten Metals from Runner Systems in Full Moulds.

  • The full mould casting process in one of the newly developed techniques which has many advantages. Unbonded sand mould has been prepared for the major mould and $CO^2$ gas mould has been used occasionally for comparison. Patterns were built up with expanded polystyrene and coated with three different materials. Silica, graphite and zircon were used for the coating layer. The effects on fluidity and temperature loss of molten metals were investigated. The molten metals were Al-5% Si alloy, Cu-30% Zn alloy and gray iron of approximately 4.0% of carbon equivalent. Experimental variables were runner section area, superheat, sprue height, coating materials, coating thickness and apparent density of EPS pattern. The effects of coating materials on fluidity and temperature loss of the molten metals during transient pouring are summarized as follows : As runner section area, superheat and sprue height increased, fluidity increased. Temperature loss decreased as runner section area and sprue height increased. However, reversed effects were observed in the case of superheat increment. The coating materials decreased the fluidity of each alloy in the order of silica, graphite and zircon. Zircon brought to the highest temperature loss among the coating materials used. The fluidity increased in the order gray iron, Cu-30% Zn and Al-5% Si alloy while temperature loss in the reverse order. Especially in case of reduced pressure process, the fluidity was increased apparently. Al-5% Si alloy showed the lowest temperature loss among the alloys. The increment of the apparent density of EPS pattern resulted in the fluidity decrease and temperature loss increase. The relation between fluidity and temperature loss of each alloy can be expressed by the following equation within the coating thickness limit of 0.5-1.5㎜. 용융 Zn 합금에서 Fe합금의 PTA 오버레이 용접 금속간 상의 형성과 진행 (Formation and Progression of Intermetallic phase on Iron Base Alloy PTA weld overlay in Molten Zn Alloys)

  • Zinc coatings provide the most effective and economical way of protecting steel against corrosion. There are three types of galvanizing lines typically used in production line in galvanizing industries,Galvanize (GI) coating (Zn-0.1-0.3%Al), Galfan coating (Zn-5%Al), Galvalume(GL) coating (45%Zn-Al). In continuous Galvanizing lines, the immersed bath hardware (e.g. bearings, sink, stabilizer, and corrector rolls, and also support roll arms and snout tip) are subjected to corrosion and wear failure. Understanding the reaction of these materials with the molten Zn alloy is becomes scientific and commercial interest. To investigate the reaction with molten Zn alloys, static immersion test performed for 4, 8, 16, and 24 Hr. Two different baths used for the static immersion, which are molten Zn and molten Zn-55%Al. Microstructures characterization of each of the materials and intermetallic layer formed in the reaction zone was performed using optical microscope, SEM and EDS. The thickness of the reaction layer is examined using image analysis to determine the kinetics of the reaction. The phase dominated by two distinct phase which are eutectic carbide and matrix. The morphology of the intermetallic phase formed by molten Zn is discrete phase showing high dissolution of the material, and the intermetallic phase formed by Zn-55wt%Al is continuous. Aluminum reacts readily with the materials compare to Zinc, forming iron aluminide intermetallic layer ($Fe_2Al_5$) at the interface and leaving zinc behind.

  • The fabrication of Al2O3/Al composite by pressureless infiltration was investigated by the change of Mg and Si content in Al alloy infiltration process and infiltration atmosphere. The effect of alloying elements infiltration atmosphere and interfacial reactants between Al alloy matrix and Al2O3 particles were in-vestigated in terms of bendingstrength and harness test,. The fabrication of Al2O3/Al composite by the vestigated in terms of bending strength and hardness test. The fabrication of Al2O3/Al composite by the pressureless infiltration was done in nitrogen atmosphere with Mg in Al alloy. It was successfully fabricated at $700^{\circ}C$ according to Mg contents in Al alloy and infiltration condition. Because Mg in the Al alloy and ni-trogen atmosphere of infiltratio condition produced Mg-N compound(Mg3N2) it decreased the wetting an-gle between molten Al alloy and Al2O3 particles by coating on surface of Al2O3 particles. The fracture strength of Al2O3/Al-Mg composite was 800MPa and Al2O3/Al-Si-Mg composite was 400MPa. Si in Al alloy decreased the interfacial strength between Al alloy matrix and Al2O3 particles.

정적법을 이용한 Mg-Al계 합금과 순수 Ti의 고온 젖음현상 및 Al계면에서의 정합성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Mg-Al Alloy and Pure Ti on High Temperature Wetting and Coherency on Al Interface Using the Sessile Drop Method)

  • In this study, high temperature wetting analysis and AZ80/Ti interfacial structure observation are performed for the mixture of AZ80 and Ti, and the effect of Al on wetting in Mg alloy is examined. Both molten AZ80 and pure Mg have excellent wettability because the wet angle between molten droplets and the Ti substrate is about 10° from initial contact. Wetting angle decreases with time, and wetting phenomenon continues between droplets and substrate; the change in wetting angle does not show a significant difference when comparing AZ80-Ti and Mg-Ti. As a result of XRD of the lower surface of the AZ80-Ti sample, in addition to the Ti peak of the substrate, the peak of TiAl3, which is a Ti-Al intermetallic compound, is confirmed, and TiAl3 is generated in the Al enrichment region of the Ti substrate surface. EDS analysis is performed on the droplet tip portion of the sample section in which pure Mg droplets are dropped on the Ti substrate. Concentration of oxygen by the natural oxide film is not confirmed on the Ti surface, but oxygen is distributed at the tip of the droplet on the Mg side. Molten AZ80 and Ti-based compound phases are produced by thickening of Al in the vicinity of Ti after wetting is completed, and Al in the Mg alloy does not affect the wetting. The driving force of wetting progression is a thermite reaction that occurs between Mg and TiO2, and then Al in AZ80 thickens on the Ti substrate interface to form an intermetallic compound.

AlZnMg-합금의 용융산화에 의한 $Al_2O_3$-복합재료의 형성 (Formation of $Al_2O_3$-Composites by the Melt Oxidation of an AlZnMg-alloy)

  • The initiation and growth of $\alpha$-Al2O3/metal composites by the directed oxidation of molten commercial AlZnMg-alloy at 1223-1423K were investigated. Spontaneous bulk growth did not occur on the alloy alone. but the uniform initiation and growth of the composite were obtained by putting a thin layer of SiO2 particles on the surface of the alloy. Without SiO2 the external surface of the oxide layer was convered by MgO and MgAl2O4. But with the SiO2 reaction initiate the porous ZnO layers were found on the growth surface. The higher process temperature yielded a lower metal content. The oxidation product of $\alpha$-Al2O3 was found to be oriented with c-axis parallel to th growth direction. The growth rates increased with temperature and the apparent activation energy was 111.8 kJ/mol.
