To develop hybridomas secreting monoclonal antibodies to be used as unlimited sources of reagents indispensable for the diagnosis and treatement of leukemic malignancy, a monoclonal antibody was generated to human pre-T leukemia cells (Jurkat). Hybridomas were produced against Jurkat cell line by fusing spleen cells from hyperimmunized mice with murine plasmacytoma cells (P3$\times$63Ag8. V653). One monoclonal antibody derived from this fusion, designated DMJ-2 was reactive with T-cell lines (Jurkat, Molt-4 and RPMI-8402) and normal peripheral E-rosette forming T cells, but unreactive with B-cell lines (Daudi, Nalm-6) and non-T, non-B cell line (K562). Conclusively DMJ-2 reactive with mature and immature T-lineage lymphoid cells.

In this paper, a windmill type ultrasonic motor operated by single-Phase AC electric field was fabricated, and then torque characteristics were investigated. A metal-ceramic composite component was used as the stator\`s vibrator to generate ultrasonic vibrations. The windmill type ultrasonic motors has only three components; a stator element with two wind-mill shape slotted metal endcaps, a rotor and a bearing. In this parer we measured torque, when stator\`s slot was changed Iron 4, 6, 8. Brass metal was pressed with umbrella-type using metal molt then slot of 3 kind was manufactured. The maximum revolution speed was 388(rpm) in the case of a small ultrasonic motor of 11.35 mm diameter, 8 slot and 1.01 mm thickness. The maximum torque of 0.17 mNm was obtained at a speed of 131 rpm.
Lift-off means that the rotating journal surface separates from the leaf surface in an air-lubricated multi-leaf foil journal bearing. Lift-off builds up minimum film thickness which will provide load capacity between leaves and journal. In this paper an analysis of air-lubricated multi-leaf foil journal bearing was performed with effects of multi-leaf foil deflection and compressible lubrication equation simultaneously. Minimum film thickness built up versus journal speed predicts the lift off characteristics and these results will be useful in designing and selecting the proper speed of the air-lubricated multi-leaf foil journal bearing.
The object of this study was to investigate the immune-enhancing effects of Chlorella vulgaris (CV) on a deteriorated immune function by a protein-energy malnutrition (PEM) diet. Unicellular algae, CV were used as a biological response modifier. Male C57BL/6J mice were fed for 15 days with standard diet or a PEM diet, which is associated with decreased host immune defense. After 8 days, mice in the PEM diet group were orally administered by 0.05, 0.1, and 0.15 g/kg body weight of CV or distilled water. Nutritional parameters, and interferon (IFN)-$\gamma$ levels were significantly increased in the blood serum of the CV (0.15 g/kg)-treated group (29.6$\pm$2.8 pg/mL) compared to the non-treated PEM group (4.1$\pm$0.4 pg/mL, p<0.05). In addition, cell proliferation and production of cytokines were investigated via a CV (0.01, 0.1, and 1 mg/mL) treatment using a human T cell line MOLT-4 cell. The CV treatment (1 mg/mL) significantly increased the production of both IFN-$\gamma$ and interleukin (IL)-2 (51.3$\pm$3.4 and 285.9$\pm$18.8 pg/mL, respectively) compared to the control (51.3$\pm$3.4 and 442.6$\pm$14.3 pg/mL, respectively), but did not affect the production of IL-4. These results suggest that CV may be useful in improving the immune function.

This experiment was conducted to investigate the influence of different dietary ME and CP on post-molt performance of spent laying hens. Four hundred and thirty two, ISA brown after molt induction were fed 6 experimental diets containing 3 ME(2,750, 2,800, 2,850 kcal/kg) and 2 CP(15, 17%) levels in factorial design. The influence of ME and CP were measured on body weight, egg production, egg weight and feed intake throughout 24 weeks of production. Egg mass and FCR were calculated for the entire experimental period body weight remained less in hens receiving 2,800 kcal/kg. ME and showed the highest egg Production coupled with 15% CP. Feed intake decreased with the increasing level of ME and CP. As the results of this experiment, 2,800 kcal/kg ME can be used to maintain the low body weight and to obtain higher egg production with 15% CP in induced molting hens.

Medicinal herbs have long been used as a remedy for diverse diseases in Asia owing to their various pharmacological effect. In this study, the immuno-enhancing activity of medicinal herbs was investigated using macrophage cell lines. Specifically, we examined the effects of extracts of twelve medicinal herbs on nitric oxide (NO) production in RAW 264.7 cells, and selected five that were highly effective (Glycyrrhiza glabra, Rehmannia glutinosa, Angelica gigas, Platycodon grandflorum, and Actinidia polygama) for further immune related studies. The effects of extracts from five theses medicinal herbs, which were mainly composed of polysaccharides and proteins on the production of immune-related cytokines in the RAW 264.7 macrophage cell line and the Molt-4 T cell line were investigated. The extracts of all investigated medicinal herbs increased the production of NO and cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-${\alpha}$), interleukin-1beta (IL-$1{\beta}$), interleukin-6 (IL-6) and interleukin-10 (IL-10). Additionally, they slightly increased the proliferation of T-cells when compared to the control. Overall, the result of this study suggests that the five medicinal herb extracts investigated herein are useful natural immune enhancing agents.

In this study, the immuno-enhancing activity of seed extracts were studied on the macrophage cell lines. We examined the effect of nine seed extracts on nitric oxide (NO) production in RAW 264.7 cells and selected four highly-effective seed candidates (Fagopyrum esculentum, Taraxacum platycarpum, Impatiens balsamina, Helianthus annuus) for further immune-related studies. The effects of the four seed extracts on the production of immune-related cytokines in the RAW 264.7 macrophage cell line and proliferation of Molt-4 as a T cell line were investigated. The secretion of NO from the RAW 264.7 cells was increased up to 39 ${\mu}M$ by adding the seed extracts (25 ${\mu}g/mL$) compared to the control. Also, the secretion of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-${\alpha}$) was also increased up to 32 times by adding the seed extracts (25 ${\mu}g/mL$). Secretion of cytokines such as interleukin-1 beta (IL-$1{\beta}$), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and interleukin-10 (IL-10) was also increased and induced the proliferation of T cells compared to the control. In conclusion, these results suggest that four seed extracts provide beneficial immuno-enhancing effects for human health.
The studies were conducted to investigate the combined effects of Tonics and Mitomycin C(MMC). The effects of Tonics and MMC on the proliferation of Molt-4 cells, human leukemic cell line, and activation of human lymphocytes were estimated by MTT colorimetric assays. Selected medicines among 9 kinds of Tonics by results of MTT assays were treated with MMC in mice. The Tonics itself enhanced the proliferation of Molt-4, but the anti-proliferative effect of MMC was not intercalated by the combined treatment of Tonic and MMC. Inhibitory action of MMC was augmented by Sa Kun Ja Tang(SKT). This result was due to the inhibition of DNA synthesis. Among 9 kinds of Tonics, Sip Jean Dae Bo Tang(SDT), Saeng Maek San(SMS) and Kwi Bi Tang(KBT) did not inhibit the action of MMC, but activated lymphocytes. When the mice were treated by MMC, the number of leukocytes was decreased significantly at the 1st day, but recovered at the 7th day. In the groups of MMC treated with SDT or KBT, the number of leukocytes was increased significantly than the group of MMC treated only at the 3rd day. Combined treatment of the Tonics(SDT, SMS) and MMC retained the body weight of mice at the level of normal mice. SDT, SMS and KBT did not change the number of plaque forming cells(PFC), but MMC treated group decreased the number of PFC. The combined treatment of MMC and SDT increased the number of PFC significantly than the MMC treated group. SDT, SMS and KBT did not influence the proliferation of T cells, but MMC treated group decreased the proliferation of T cells. The combined treatment of MMC and those tonics increased the T cell proliferation significantly than the MMC treated group. In conclusion, the results presented in this paper suggest that SDT, SMS and KBT can recover the side effects of MMC, such as weight loss, leukopenia and immunosuppresion, without any intercalating the anti-proliferative action of MMC in vivo.
In order to define the morphological changes of the secreting cells of prothoracic gland during larva-pupal molt, ultrastructural observations were carried out using Bombyx mori L. as the experimental material. At first stage of present experiment, 4 day old 5th instar larva, the polyhedral secreting cells were centrally located in the prothoracic gland surrounded by the connective sheath. The secreting cells were attached to the neighboring cells by the prominent desmosomes, and the plasma membrane contacted with connective sheath were highly infolded. In cytoplasm, the most of the cell organelles, such as rod-like mitochondria, rough surfaced endoplasmic reticulum, ribosome were developed. As the stages advance from larva to pupa, general feature of the secreting cells were retained, but structural changes of the various cytoplasmic organelles-ribosome, rough surfaced endoplasmic reticulum, mitochondria, Golgi apparatus, lamellar body, and vesicle-were noted. In the perinuclear cytoplasm of the secreting cells at the stage of 6 day old 5th instar larva, it is peculiar that only a large amount of ribosomes were distributed and the other organelles were retreated from the juxtanuclear region. Just before and after spining cocoon, these features were more remarkable. Rough surfaced endoplasmic reticulum were gradually increased from the stage just before spining cocoon to the pharate pupa. Rod-like mitochondria with irregular cristae and the matrix showing low density were distributed throughout the cytoplasm in the secreting cells of the 4 day old 5th instar larva. Sometimes, longitudinally distended and curved mitochondria were observed. At the stage of pharate pupa, most of mitochondria were deformed. The rod-like mitochondria of the secreting cells of pupal prothoracic gland were narrower than those of 4 day old 5th instar larva, and the electron density of the mitochondrial matrix is increased in pupa. Golgi apparatus were a few in number in both stages, last instar larva and spining cocoon. In stages of the pharate pupa, the Golgi apparatus were frequently observed. Cytoplasmic vesicles were observed for the first time in the secreting cells of one day after spining cocoon, and the number and the size of cytoplasmic vesicles were distinctly increased inpharate pupa and just after pupation. In the secretory cells of the PG, it in concluded that the RER was closely related to syntheting the enzymes seem to produce the ecdysone.
In the course of screening program for VHR DS-PTPase (dual-specificity protein tyrosine phosphatase) from natural sources, Gastrodia elata was selected. One compound showing potent inhibitory activity was isolated by the solvent extraction and column chromatography including silica gel, ODS RP-18, Sephades LH-20, and HPLC. This compound was identified as baicalein by several NMR techniques such as $^1H-NMR$, $^{13}C-NMR$, and DEPT. Baicalein showed selective inhibitory activity against VHR DS-PTPase with $IC_{50}=2.4\;{\mu}M$, and showed cytotoxicity against several human cancer cell lines with an $GI_{50}$ of $5.26{\sim}12.93\;{\mu}g/mL$ range, including, melanoma (LOX-IMVI), lung cancer (NCI H23 and A549), colon cancer (HCT 116 and SW 620), prostate cancer (PC-3), and leukemia (MOLT 4F).
