Energy efficiency of bacterial cell mass and product formation from cellulose using Ruminococcus albus and Ruminococcus flavefaciens with application of available electron balance were discussed. Values of true growth yield, η$_{max}$ and η$^{max}_{th}$ and maintenance coefficient, m$_{e}$, were estimated us-ing experimental data, and the results were compared with estimates obtained from theoretical ap-proach. Experimental values were similar in magnitude to theoretical values in $Y^{max}_{ATP}$= 10.5 g cells/ mole ATP. Therefore, $Y^{max}_{ATP}$ values of Ruminococcus albus and Ruminocoecus flavefaciens were considered similar to 10.5 g cells/mole ATP.

The budgets of fresh water, salt and nutrients were estimated in order to clarify the characteristics of material cycle in the Gamak Bay in 2006 with Simple Box budget Model. Outflow volume of freshwater into system was approximately $-174.2{\sim}72.5{\times}10^3m^3/day$. Inflow masses of DIP and DIN were approximately 397.0~1158 mole/day and 1750~8328 mole/day, respectively. The Source or sink of DIP was under the control of the variation of fresh water budget in the system. the mass balance and NEM was largely determined by flushing time of material.
Thermal decomposition of ammonium metavanadate has been investigated by using the quartz spring balance and differential thermal analysis. It showed that the decomposition of ammonium metavanadate is proceeded at two stages which correspond to $180^{\circ}C-220^{\circ}C$ and $310^{\circ}C-330^{\circ}C$ decomposition temperatures, respectively. Evolved ammonia gas in thermal decomposition has been analyzed quantitatively by titration. And the constituents of gases evolved have been evaluated by gas chromatography and omegatron spectrometer. From these results, it was concluded that the gases evolved in the first step decomposition were $NH_3$ and $H_2O$ with 2:1 ratio and the second step decomposition corresponded to the formation of $NH_3$, $H_2O$ and $N_2O$ which was produced in oxidation of $NH_3$ by $V_2O_5$. The decomposition products were identified by means of X-ray diffraction method. The decomposition product in air was V_2O_5 and the product in vacuum $V_3O_7.$ The kinetics of the thermal decomposition was studied, giving the values of the activation energy of 41.4 kcal/mole and 64.4 (kcal/mole) respectively.

Successive ion Exchange Column model was developed with the combination of mass action law and mole balance equation. consuming that ions entering the ion exchange bed pass the resin layer via consecutive ion exchange equilibrium. The application of the model to condensate polishing demineralizer in nuclear power plants indicates that the leakage of $Na^+$ and $Cl^-$ depends upon the degree of resin regeneration and that the ratio of specific ion concentration in Influent to in effluent is subject to the characteristics of resin and solution. The model can account for the local in-equilibrium with the correction of resin concentration and also can be applicable to a competitive ion exchange.
Pyrolysis of polyethylene was carried out in the stainless steel reactor of internal volume of $10cm^3$. Pyrolysis reactions were performed at temperature $390{\sim}450^{\circ}C$ and the pyrolysis products were collected separately as reaction products and gas products. The molecular weight distributions(MWDs) of each product were determined by HPLC-GPC and GC analysis. Distribution balance equation for MWDs of random and specific products were proposed to account for initiation-termination and propagation-depropagation, such as hydrogen abstraction, chain cleavage, coupling of polymer and radical. A separate chain-end scission process produces low molecular weight noncondensable gases(C1 through C5) of average molecular weight 38. Activation energies of the random-chain scission and chain-end scission rate parameters, respectively, were determined to be 35, 17 kcal/mole.

Characteristics of laminar lifted flames of propane highly-diluted with nitrogen have been investigated at various temperatures of coflow air. At various fuel mole fractions, the base of laminar lifted flames has the structure of tribrachial (or triple) flame. The liftoff heights are correlated well with the stoichiometric laminar burning velocity considering initial temperature at a given coflow velocity. It shows that lifted flames are stabilized on the basis of the balance mechanism between local flow velocity and the propagation speed of tribrachial flame, regardless of the temperature of coflow and fuel mole fraction. Lifted flames exist for a jet velocity even smaller than the stoichiometric laminar burning velocity, and liftoff velocity increases more rapidly than stoichiometric laminar burning velocity as coflow temperature increases. These can be attributed to the buoyancy effect due to the density difference.
Characteristics of lifted flames for highly diluted propane and methane with nitrogen in coflowing air is experimentally investigated. In case of propane, for various fuel mole fractions and jet velocities, three distinctive types of flames are observed; nozzle attached flames, stationary lifted flames, and oscillating lifted flames. When fuel jet velocity is much smaller than coflow velocity, the base of nozzle attached flame has a tribrachial structure unlike usual coflow difusion flames. Based on the balance mechanism of the propagation speed of tribrachial flame with flow velocity, jet velocity is scaled with stoichiometric laminar burning velocity. Results show that there exists two distinctive lifted flame stabilization; stabilization in the developing region and in the developed region of jets depending on initial fuel mole fraction. It has been found that lifted flame can be stabilized for fuel velocity even smaller than stoichiometric laminar burning velocity. This can be attributed to the buoyancy effect and flow visualization supports it. Lifted flames are also observed for methane diluted with nitrogen. The lifted flames only exist in the developing region of jet.
ionic equilbria of nickel chloride in hydrochloric acid solutions were analyzed by considering chemical equilibria, mass and charge balance equations. The activity coefficients of solutes were calculated by using Bromley equation. It was found that most of species containing nickel existed as $Ni^{2+}$ 와 $NiCl^{+}$. The mole fractions of nickel hydroxides were very low in the con-centration ranges considered in this study and the mole fraction of$Ni_4$$(OH)_{4}^{4+}$ increased greatly with the pH of the solution. The pH values of $NiCl_2$$-HCl-NaOH-H_2$O system at $25^{\circ}C$ calculated in this study agreed well with those experimentally measured up to ionic strength of 9.4m.
This paper is the forth and fifth one of the study on balanced type oscillating mole drainer. In the light of the results from previous reports about the model tests, some design criteria were established and a prototype machine was set up for experimental purpose. Motion characteristics and functionof the each parts of the machine were checked and analyzed. After that, performance tests of the prototype machine were carried out in thefield. Obtained results are summarized as follows ; 1. Ten centimeter of the bullet diameter was determined so as to be able to attach it to the tractors with capacity of 30 PS to 40 PS. 2. To maintain the balance between the moments of the front shank and rear shank, the oscillating amplitude of the rear bullet was determined to be larger than that of the front bullet. At the same time , the oscillating direction of the rear bullet was designed with the inclines of ten to thirty degrees. 3. An octagonal dynamo transduced was developed for measuring the compressive force of the upper link is measuring the draft force of the machine. Acceptable linear relationship between forces and strain responses from O.D.T. was obtained. 4. Analysing the balancing mechanism of the acting part of the machine , it was found that the total draft force of the machine was equal to the difference between the sum of the draft force produced from the right and left side bending moments of the lower drawber and the compressive force on the upper link. 5. There are acceptable linear relationship between the strain and twisting moment by driving shaft, and between strain and shank moment. Above results enable us to carry out the field experiment with prototype machine. 6. When the test machine was used in the field, it was possible to reduce the oscillating acceleration by forty percent in average as compared it with the single bullet mole drainer. 7. When the test machine was used under the oscillating condition, the dratt torce was reduced by 27 percent to 59 percent as compared it with the test machine under non-oscillating condition, while the draft force was increased by 7 percent to 20 percent as compared it with the mole drainer having oscillating single bullet. The reasoning behind this fact was considered as the resistance force due to the rear shank and bullet. 8. As the amplitude and frequency of the bullet were increased, the torque was increased accordingly. This tendency could be varied with the various characteristics of the given soils. And the larger frequency and amplitute, the more increasing oscil\ulcornerlating power but decreasing draft brce were needed, and draft force was increased as the velocity was increased.9. When the amplitude of the rear bullet was designed to be larger than that of the front bullet, the minimum value of the moment was lowered and oscillating acceleration was reduced. And when the oscillating direction of the rear bullet was declined back\ulcornerwards, oscillating acceleration was increased along with the increasing angle of decli\ulcornernation. When the test machine was operated in high speed, the difference between maximum moments and minimum ones became narrow. This varying magnitude of moments appeared on the moment oscillogram seems to be correlated to the oscillating acceleration and draft force. 10. From the analysis of variance, it was found that those factors such as frequency, amplitude, and operating velocity significantly affected in the oscillating acceleration, the draft resistance, the torque, the moment, and the total power required. And interaction between frequency and amplitude affected in the oscillating acceleration. 11. Within the given situation of this study, the most preferable operating conditions of the test machine were 7 Hz in oscillating frequency, 0.54 m/sec in operating velocity, and 39.1 mm in oscillating amplitude of front and rear bullets. However, it is necessary to select the proper frequency and magnitude of oscillation depending on the soil properties of the field in which the mole drainer is practiced by use of a bal1nced type oscillating mole drainer. 12. It is recommended that a comparative study of the mole drainers would be performed in the near future using two separate balanced oscillating bullet with the one which is operated by oscillating the movable bullet in a single cylinder or other balanced type which may be single oscillating bullet with spring, damper or balancing weight, and that of thing. To expand the applicability of the balanced type oscillating mole drainer in practical use, it is suggested to develop a new mechanism which perform mole drain with vinyl pipe or filling material such as rice hull.
The bioconversion of cellulosic biomass hydrolyzates consisting mainly of glucose and xylose requires the use of engineered Saccharomyces cerevisiae expressing a heterologous xylose pathway. However, there is concern that a fungal xylose pathway consisting of NADPH-specific xylose reductase (XR) and $NAD^+$-specific xylitol dehydrogenase (XDH) may result in a cellular redox imbalance. However, the glycerol biosynthesis and glycerol degradation pathways of S. cerevisiae, termed here as the glycerol cycle, has the potential to balance the cofactor requirements for xylose metabolism, as it produces NADPH by consuming NADH at the expense of one mole of ATP. Therefore, this study tested if the glycerol cycle could improve the xylose metabolism of engineered S. cerevisiae by cofactor balancing, as predicted by an in-silico analysis using elementary flux mode (EFM). When the GPD1 gene, the first step of the glycerol cycle, was overexpressed in the XR/XDH-expressing S. cerevisiae, the glycerol production significantly increased, while the xylitol and ethanol yields became negligible. The reduced xylitol yield suggests that enough $NAD^+$ was supplied for XDH by the glycerol cycle. However, the GPD1 overexpression completely shifted the carbon flux from ethanol to glycerol. Thus, moderate expression of GPD1 may be necessary to achieve improved ethanol production through the cofactor balancing.
