This paper focuses on understanding the interrupting capability of an arc contact system in a molded case circuit breaker (hereafter MCCB). We selected four types of MCCBs and analyzed the magnetic flux density distributions in the contact systems caused by the fault currents. We ascertained that the magnetic flux density profile varies according to the shape of the contact system and was asymmetric at both the ends of an arc, perpendicular to the arc column because of the magnetic grid installed in the contact system. The asymmetric difference creates a magnetic force that pushes the arc current outwards and provides an interrupting capability. We have introduced a simple analysis method for determining the interrupting capability of the contact system for an MCCB by the arc-driving magnetic flux density.

Owing to the increasing number of intelligent homes(or called Smart home), the corresponding cost is much higher. Low voltage circuit breakers are widely used in the intelligent homes to interrupt fault current rapidly and to assure the reliability of the power supply. The distribution of magnetic field induced by arc current in the contact system of molded case circuit breaker(hereafter MCCB) depends on the shape, arrangement, and kinds of material of arc runner. This paper is focused on understanding the interrupting capability, more specifically of the arc runner, based on the shape of the contact system in the current MCCB. The magnetic driving force was calculated by using the flux densities induced by the arc current, which are obtained by three-dimensional finite element method. There is a need to assure that the optimum design required to analyze the electromagnetic forces of the contact system generated by current and the flux density be present. This is paper present our computational analysis on contact system in MCCB.
This study analyzed the characteristics of insulation resistance and operating time based on an accelerated degradation test of a low-voltage circuit breaker. The experimental sample used a molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) and an earth leakage circuit breaker (ELCB). After measuring the insulation resistance of the circuit breakers, the leakage current was affected by an external rather than an internal structure. Furthermore, the insulation resistance of the circuit breakers with accelerated degradation was measured using a Megger insulation tester. In the accelerated degradation test, aging times of five, ten, 15, and 20 years were applied according to a temperature derived using the Arrhenius equation. Circuit breakers with an equivalent life of ten, 15, and 20 years had increased insulation resistance compared to those with less degradation time. In particular, the circuit breaker with an equivalent life of ten years had the highest insulation resistance. Component analysis of the circuit breaker manufactured through an accelerated degradation test confirmed that the timing of the increase in insulation resistance and the time of additive loss were the same. Finally, after analyzing the operating time of the circuit breakers with degradation, it was confirmed that the MCCB did not change, but the ELCB breaker failed.

The higher the short circuit currents, the faster the interruption takes place. For increasing the interrupting performance of the MCCB, it is important to design optimally the adjustable tripping device, the open /shut mechanism, and the arc quenching room in the MCCB. This paper is focused on understanding the interrupting performance, more specifically of the grid and the fix contact, based on the shape of the arc quenching room in the current MCCB.
The Design of are quenching parts of molded case circuit breakers depends on the utilization of strength and distribution of the magnetic field by which the arc is forced. The magnetic field causes the are to move into a set of V-slotted iron grids, where the are is extinguished rapidly. This paper present the effective method 10 design V-slotted iron plates of the are breaking chamber of molded case circuit breakers. This magnetic force was calculated by using the flux densities in the arc which are obtained by three dimensional finite element method, as a result of that this paper verified by testing that a grid model which has biggest magnetic force is excellent in the are quenching ability.

Recent years have witnessed that the Korean government prompts the 'Power IT' enterprise to combine electric Power industry with information technology (IT). Especially, in a move to shore up the distribution automation system, the necessity for remote control of molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) is getting more and more important. In this paper, we aimed to propose a remote-controlled MCCB of which the driving device is substituted to electrical equipment for mechanical parts. Driving device of MCCB was designed with the Electromagnetic Force driving Actuator (EMFA). Electromagnetic force and dynamic characteristics of the designed EMFA are analyzed using 2-D finite element method (FEM).
In the fire there are fusion signs and damage by fire, and insulation aging and carbonization of the electric wiring in the ignition spot because of special characteristic of the appliance in the electricity fire. Because of the physical factor applied in the damage of fire, the decision of ignition spot by eye investigation is insufficient. In this paper, the cause of electricity fire is researched. The focus is on the operation state of operated MCCB(Molded Case Circuit Breaker) at the time of electricity fire. Through grasping the operation principle of MCCB and the experiment, the state of MCCB after fire suppression is discriminated. The distinction possibility on the exist of electricity fire is proposed.
In this paper we have studied the characteristics of temperature fields in a Molded Case Circuit Breaker (MCCB). A switch and a trip device are arranged in narrow space of the MCCB. Thus, thermal factors have been risen to important problem. The temperature rise means an energy loss and it becomes the reason of fatal fault in devices. Also, the temperature rise on the connection and the contact parts is regulated up to $115^{\circ}C$ and $105^{\circ}C$, respectively. Therefore, a study for preventing the temperature rise should be investigated. A numerical analysis method that has confidence might be preceded for this purpose. In order to verify the confidence of temperature field analysis, the results of the numerical analysis are compared with those of experimental one for the same model. Comparison results show a qualitatively good agreement within ${\pm}5%$ errors.
A new type of fiber-reinforced polymeric materials for the main body and the arc chamber of the low-voltage circuit breakers was developed. The tensile and the flectional strength of the three kinds of thermoplastic resins for the cover of MCCBs(Molded case circuit breakers) increase much higher than those made of BMC that has been used. In a high current-breaking test, an experimental MCCB with the new insulating material showed no-cracks on the bodies.
