Trends of Stability Indices and Environmental Parameters Derived from the Rawinsonde Data over South Korea

  • In this paper, trends of the widely used stability indices (SIs) and environmental parameters (EPs) were examined by using the 30-year routine rawinsonde data observed in three upper air observatories (Osan, Gwangju and Pohang) over South Korea. To take into account of the contribution of water vapor to a parcel density, we applied the virtual temperature correction in calculating the SIs and EPs. The trends of SIs and EPs indicated significant increases of temperature and moisture contents, especially at the low-to-mid troposphere during the last 10 years. The warming trend in the lower troposphere shows about 3 times greater than that of the global average (+0.10- $+0.20^{\circ}C$/10 years), whereas the cooling trend of lower stratosphere demonstrates a similar trend with the global average (-0.33- $-0.60^{\circ}C$/10 years). The vertical stability is clearly reduced due to the unsymmetrical change of atmospheric elements. The unstabilizing trend with the increased moisture contents gradually changed the atmospheric environment in South Korea into the conditions favorable for the occurrence of severe weather or intensifications of such events. These trends are consistent with the recent observations, which showed clear increase in the intensity and frequency of heavy rainfalls.

Roller compacted concrete pavements reinforced with steel and polypropylene fibers

  • In this paper, the effects of both pozzolans and (steel and poly-propylene) fibers on the mechanical properties of roller compacted concrete are studied. Specimens for the experiments were made using a soil-based approach; thus, the Kango's vibration hammer was used for compaction. The tests in the first stage were carried out to determine the optimal moisture requirements for mix designs using cubic $150{\times}150{\times}150$ mm specimens. In the tests of the second stage, the mechanical behaviors of the main specimens made using the optimal moisture obtained in the previous stage were evaluated using 28, 90, and 210 day cubic specimens. The mechanical properties of RCC pavements were evaluated using a soil-based compaction method and the optimum moisture content obtained from the pertaining experiments, and by adding different percentages of Iranian pozzolans as well as different amounts of steel fibers, each one accompanied by 0.1% of poly-propylene fibers. Using pozzolans, maximum increase in compressive strength was observed to occur between 28 and 90 days of age, rupture modulus was found to decrease, but toughness indices did not change considerably. The influence of steel fibers on compressive strength was often more significant than that of PP fibers, but neither steel nor PP fibers did contribute to increase in the rupture modulus independently. Also, the toughness indices increased when steel fibers were used.

농업가뭄의 평가를 위한 가뭄지수의 적용성 분석

  • The objictive of this study is to analyze regional drought using agricultural drought indicator. Toforecast and evaluate the drought, the drought indices for agriculture were applied. In the present drought preparedness plans of Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF), it is prescribed that the preparedness levels should be classified by considering the precipitation, reservoir storage, soil moisture in paddy and upland, and the growing status of crops. There are many drought index to analyze and evaluate the drought. However, these indices do not exactly explain all drought events. Thus, we select 4 drought indices to evaluate agricultural drought:reservoir storage index, 3-month delayed SPI, mean rainfall index, and dry day index. Using these ineices, six drought stages are classified. The results show that agricultural drought could be apprppriately analyzed and evaluated by agricultural drought stage and four drought indices.

인공위성 기반 TRMM/GPM 강우 이미지를 이용한 농업 가뭄 평가: 충청북도 지역을 중심으로 (Assessment of Agricultural Drought Using Satellite-based TRMM/GPM Precipitation Images: At the Province of Chungcheongbuk-do)

  • In this study, we assessed meteorological and agricultural drought based on the SPI(Standardized Precipitation Index), SMP(Soil Moisture Percentile), and SMDI(Soil Moisture Deficit Index) indices using satellite-based TRMM(Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission)/GPM(Global Precipitation Measurement) images at the province of Chungcheongbuk-do. The long-term(2000-2015) TRMM/GPM precipitation data were used to estimate the SPI values. Then, we estimated the spatially-/temporally-distributed soil moisture values based on the near-surface soil moisture data assimilation scheme using the TRMM/GPM and MODIS(MODerate resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) images. Overall, the SPI value was significantly affected by the precipitation at the study region, while both the precipitation and land surface condition have influences on the SMP and SMDI values. But the SMP index showed the relatively extreme wet/dry conditions compared to SPI and SMDI, because SMP only calculates the percentage of current wetness condition without considering the impacts of past wetness condition. Considering that different drought indices have their own advantages and disadvantages, the SMDI index could be useful for evaluating agricultural drought and establishing efficient water management plans.

MSI/ MidIR/ II 식생지수를 이용한 봄 가뭄탐지 활용 가능성 분석 (Analysis of the Possibility for Practical Use of MSI/ MidIR/ II Vegetation Indices for Drought Detection of Spring Season)

  • 봄 가뭄탐지를 위한 위성영상 활용을 위해 중 저해상 위성영상인 Landsat TM(Thematic Mapper) 영상을 이용하여 기존의 봄철 가뭄 해석에 많이 사용되어온 정규식생지수(NDVI: Normalized Difference Vegetation Index)이외에 MSI(Moisture Stress Index), MidIR Index, II (Infrared Index) 지수들의 가뭄분석 활용가능성을 알아보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 경상북도 영천시를 대상으로 무강수일수에 따른 영상을 선정하여 DN(Digital Number)값의 특성 및 상관성을 분석하고 이와 더불어 가뭄지수와의 비교 분석을 실시하였다. 그 결과 NDVI와 MSI 및 II 지수는 높은 상관관계를 보였으나, MidIR은 낮은 상관관계를 보였으며, 가뭄지수와의 분석에서도 MSI 및 II 지수는 강한 상관관계를 보여주었다. 따라서 MSI와 II 지수를 이용한 가뭄연구를 통해 정보의 다양성 및 정확도를 높일 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

산불발생위험 추정을 위한 위성기반 가뭄지수 개발 (Development of Satellite-based Drought Indices for Assessing Wildfire Risk)

  • 가뭄은 산불을 일으킬 수 있는 요소 중 하나로, 산불의 빈도 및 피해 면적과 연관성이 있다. 특히, 우리나라는 가뭄이 주로 발생하는 건조한 봄과 가을에 산불이 많이 발생하고, 그 중 일부는 강풍을 동반하여 대형산불로 번지는 경향을 보인다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 우리나라를 대상으로 산불발생 및 면적과 가뭄 변수의 관련성을 파악하고, 우리나라에 적합한 가뭄 변수를 이용하여 산불발생위험 추정을 위한 위성기반의 가뭄지수를 개발하였다. 사용한 가뭄 변수는 다운스케일링(downscaling)한 고해상도의 토양수분, Normalized Different Water Index(NDWI), Normalized Multi-band Drought Index(NMDI), Normalized Different Drought Index(NDDI), Temperature Condition Index(TCI), Precipitation Condition Index(PCI), Vegetation Condition Index(VCI)이며, 경험적 가중 선형조합(Weighted Linear Combination) 및 One-class SVM을 통해 지수 개발을 하였다. 2013년부터 2017년 기간 동안의 변수를 이용하여 상관성 분석을 통해 대부분의 가뭄 변수가 산불 발생에 유의미한 결과를 보임을 확인했으며, 특히 토양수분과 NDWI, PCI가 우리나라 산불과 상관성을 보였다(88 % 이상 일치함). 개발된 지수를 2018년 산불 발생 건에 대해 적용한 결과, 다섯 가지의 선형조합 중에서 토양수분과 NDWI의 조합이 시 공간적으로 적합한 것으로 나타났으며, One-class SVM은 대형산불에 적합한 것으로 나타났다.

수치 지형인자를 활용한 토양수분분포 예측 (Prediction of Soil Distribution Using Digital Terrain Indices)

  • 토양수분의 공간적 분포를 예측하기 위하여 지표면 곡률관련인자, 지형흐름인자, 태양에너지 복사인자들을 계산하였다. GPS와 토양수분측정기를 활용한 산지유역에서의 토양수분측정은 토양수분의 공간적 분포자료의 구축을 가능하게 했다. 측정된 토양수분자료와 토양수분 추정인자 사이의 상관관계를 분석하였다. 다중회귀분석을 통한 토양수분 추정인자와 토양수분의 공간적 분포상황에 대한 검토는 수치고도모형(DEM)의 분석을 통한 토양수분 추정능력의 가능성과 한계성을 보여주었다.

Influence of temperature, time, and moisture content on rheology of tomatoes and pepper purees

  • This study explored how temperature, time, and moisture content affect the rheological properties (apparent viscosity, flow behavior index, and consistency coefficient) of stored tomato and pepper purees. These purees were prepared with moisture contents of 85%, 90%, and 95% (w/v) using the hot-break method and tested over 6 days at 2-day intervals and temperatures of 5℃, 10℃, and 15℃. Results displayed distinct ranges for apparent viscosity, consistency coefficient, and flow behavior indices: tomato puree (2,519.9-4,324.6 mPa·s, 258.0-550.6 mPa·Sn, 1.80-0.48) and pepper puree (2,105.6-4,562.0 mPa·s, 268.4-580.4 mPa·Sn, 0.22-0.48). The temperature and storage time had significant (p≤0.05) effects, but moisture content did not affect these properties. Flow behavior and consistency coefficients demonstrated relative variation with apparent viscosity, indicating pseudoplastic behavior. Optimal processing and storage conditions were identified within specific ranges: 13.21-14.42℃ for 2 days with 92.22-94.23% (w/v) moisture content for pepper, and 8.42-11.77℃ for 2-6 days with 85% (w/v) moisture for tomato.

지표수문해석모형을 활용한 국내 가뭄해석 적용성 평가 (Drought Analysis and Assessment by Using Land Surface Model on South Korea)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 전지구 수문해석도구인 지표수문해석모형을 활용하여 국내 가뭄해석에 적용성을 평가하는데 있다. 이에 댐 상류 유역의 관측유입량 자료를 대상으로 모형의 모의능력을평가하고 남한 전역에 대한 수문성분(유출, 토양수분)을 생산하였다. 격자별 일 단위 유출 및 토양수분자료를 해당기간별 누가 시계열(3, 6, 12개월)로 변환하여 가뭄지수를 생산하였고, 빈도해석에 따른 누가확률값 산정 및 표준화를 통해 SRI 및 SSI를 산정하였다. 산정된 지수의 평가를 위해 국내 과거 가뭄기록사례를 조사하고 기존 가뭄지수인 SPI 및 PDSI를 활용하였다. 본 연구 결과의 평가는 시계열별, 지역별 분석 및 유역별 물수지 분석을 통해 수행되었으며, 주로 가뭄기간동안의 가뭄심도와 가뭄 발생 및 해갈의 재현여부를 평가하였다. 분석결과 SRI 및 SSI 모두 시 공간적으로 과거 기록된 피해기간 및 지역 상황을 잘 반영한 것으로 나타났으며, 가뭄기간 동안의 정량적인 수문정보 생산이 가능하다는 점에서 유역단위 가뭄관리에 유용하게 활용될 것이라는 결론을 얻었다.

  • To evaluate the thermal and water stress of vegetation canopy in Southern Qu$\'{e}$bec, leaf water status was evaluated from vegetation indices derived from SPOT VEGETATION images and surface temperature from NOAA AVHRR images. This study was conducted by investigating vegetation conditions for two different periods, from June to August, 1999 and 2000. The vegetation indices were integrated for the evaluating vegetation conditions as a new index, normalized moisture index (NMI). A trapezoid was defined by the NMI and surface temperature, and the thermal and water status of the vegetation canopy was determined according to separate small sections within the trapezoid.
