This study compared moisture content measured by moisture meter of microwave resistance type(MMMRT) and standard moisture content of paddy, and developed the correction equation using linear and curvilinear regression analysis, and to explore its significance test. The correction factor according to the range of moisture content was developed to improve the measurement precision of MMMRT. The results were as followings. The coefficients of determination of correction equation by linear and curvilinear regression analysis with comparing the MMMRT and standard moisture content were 0.946 and 0.968, respectively. The moisture content error of MMMRT and standard moisture content measured after the MMMRT were corrected by moisture content rate of every 5% using the correction equation by curvilinear regression analysis appeared with 0~0.5% and 0.9~1.8% respectively in the moisture content range of 15~20% and 20~25%.
In this paper, time series of soil moisture were measured for a steep forest hillslope to model and understand distinct hydrological behaviours along two different transects. The transfer function analysis was presented to characterize temporal response patterns of soil moisture for rainfall events. The rainfall is a main driver of soil moisture variation, and its stochastic characteristic was properly treated prior to the transfer function delineation between rainfall and soil moisture measurements. Using field measurements for two transects during the rainy season in 2007 obtained from the Bumrunsa hillslope located in the Sulmachun watershed, a systematic transfer functional modeling was performed to configure the relationships between rainfall and soil moisture responses. The analysis indicated the spatial variation pattern of hillslope hydrological processes, which can be explained by the relative contribution of vertical, lateral and return flows and the impact of transect topography.
This study was conducted to clarify the heat load characteristics and heat and moisture behavior of underground structures. The authors achieved this by carrying out a numerical analysis using simple heat diffusion and simultaneous heat and moisture transfer equations based on measurement data. This paper presents the results of a numerical analysis on the heat load characteristics and heat and moisture behavior of an underground basement and its surrounding ground under a condition of internal heat generation. The authors found it difficult to predict the heat behavior and heat load of the underground basement by simple heat diffusion alone. Accurate prediction of the thermal environment and heat load requires careful consideration of the influences of moisture and precipitation

Heat and moisture transfer associated with porous materials are investigated. The heat and moisture transfer in porous materials caused by the interaction of moisture gradient, temperature gradient, conduction, and evaporation are considered. The variations of temperature and moisture not only change the volume but also induce the hygro-thermal stress. The finite element formulation for solving the temperature and moisture transfer as well as the associated hygro-thermal stresses is developed. In order to verify the finite element formulation, the heat and moisture moving boundary problem in a half space and the hygro-thermo-mechanical problem in an infinite plate with a circular hole are analyzed. Temperature profile, moisture profile, and hygro-thermal stresses are compared with those of analytic solution and other investigator. Good agreements are examined

Soil moisture plays a pivotal role in hydrological processes, especially in the forest which covers more than 64% of the national land. Soil moisture was monitored to analyze soil moisture change characteristics in terms of time and soil layers in this study. 2 Years soil moisture change data was obtained from the experimental nut pine forest and statistical analysis including auto-correlation and cross-corelation among soil moisture data from different soil layers was conducted. Using the monitored soil moisture data, a relationship between soil moisture change and precipitation was analyzed and seasonal soil moisture change characteristics were analyzed. From the result of inter-relationships among soil layers in terms of season and time lag, soil moisture change characteristics in the nut pine forest were upper soil layers were much sensitive than lowers, and seasonal variation if soil moisture for upper soil layers were bigger than lowers showing low correlation with precipitation in winter and spring due to freezing and snowfalls.
The moisture absorption behavior of carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) and its effect on dimensional stability were examined. Moisture diffusivity in CFRP was determined by measuring a specimen's weight during the moisture absorption test. Three types of CFRP specimens were prepared: a unidirectionally reinforced laminate, a quasi-isotropic laminate and woven fabric. Each CFRP was processed into two geometries - a thin plate for determination of diffusivity and a rod with a square cross-section for the discussion of two-dimensional diffusion behavior. By solving Fick's law expanded to 3 dimensions, the diffusivities in the three orthogonal directions were obtained and analyzed in terms of the anisotropy of CFRP moisture diffusion. Coefficients of moisture expansion (CMEs) were also obtained from specimen deformation caused by moisture absorption. During moisture absorption, the specimen surfaces showed larger deformation near the edges due to the distribution of moisture contents. This deformation was reasonably predicted by the finite element analysis using experimentally determined diffusivities and CMEs. For unidirectional CFRP, the effect of the fiber alignment on CME was analyzed by micromechanical finite element analysis (FEA) and discussed.
Moisture flow and heat flow within pavement systems have been recognized as coupled processes with complex interactions between them. The distribution of moisture and temperature within pavement due to the moisture flow and heat flow varies not only seasonally but also vertically and horizontally. This paper presents an analysis model by the finite element method for the two-dimensional coupled moisture and heat flow in unsaturated soils. To test the model the analysis result by the model is compared with the analysis result by the software, GEO-SLOPE developed by GEO-SLOPE International Ltd. in Alberta, Canada. And a sensitivity analysis using ASTM method is performed to identify how model inputs affect the modeling analysis.

A Comprehensive Vibration Assessment Program (CVAP) for steam generator internals (SGI) of Advanced Power Reactor 1400 (APR1400) is being performed in accordance with the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission (U.S. NRC) Regulatory Guide 1.20 (RG 1.20) revision 3. This paper studies the vibration characteristics of moisture separator assembly as part of the vibration and stress analysis program for APR1400 SGI CVAP. The natural frequencies, mode shapes, and structural behavior of moisture separator assembly were investigated through modal analysis using finite element method and experimental measurement. Since the moisture separator consists of several items with complicated shape, an idealized shell model was used in the finite element analysis. Group of local modes caused by moisture separators and significant modes of shroud and separator support plate were identified. The results of this paper are to be utilized in the structural response analysis of moisture separator assembly.
Gasification and melting method is one of the most potential means for waste treatment process with low emission of fly ash or heavy metal, dioxin and high possibility of using slags as resources. Moisture contents influences directly a gasification characteristics of waste. So it is necessary to investigate the effect of moisture contents in gasification. But it is hard to consider the effect of moisture contents, using samples of powder form of Milligram's order in existing thermogravimetric analyser. Therefore, we made a thermogravimetric analysis device to applicate samples of Gram's order. Gasification characteristics are typically reported with result from thermogravimetric analysis date for wood and RDF samples along with changing moisture contents. It is discussed the way to apply these analysis results to gasification and melting furnace.

Soil moisture is an essential satellite-driven variable for understanding hydrologic, pedologic and geomorphic processes. The European Space Agency (ESA) has endorsed soil moisture as one of Climate Change Initiates (CCI) and had merged multi-satellites over 30 years. The $0.25^{\circ}$ coarse resolution soil moisture satellite data showed correlations with variables of a water stress index, Temperature-Vegetation Dryness Index (TVDI), from a stepwise regression analysis. The ancillary data from TVDI, Land Surface Temperature (LST) and Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) from MODIS were inputted to a multi-regression analysis for estimating the surface soil moisture. The estimated soil moisture was validated with in-situ soil moisture data from April, 2012 to March, 2013 at Andong observation sites in South Korea. The soil moisture estimated using satellite-based LST and NDVI showed a good agreement with the observed ground data that this approach is plausible to define spatial distribution of surface soil moisture.
